Overview

The app gives learners several routes into practice: enter text, import a document or image, select a Word Pack, or collect words while reading an interactive story. That flexibility is useful when practice needs to follow class material or personal vocabulary rather than a fixed sequence. Imported Chinese text can be reviewed and edited before worksheet creation, an important safeguard when recognition needs correction.

Learn mode isolates unique characters, while Practice mode keeps the original text in order. Users can adjust grids, fonts, cell size, repetitions, pinyin, translations, tracing or fading, and stroke-order guides. This makes the worksheet format adaptable, though it does not turn practice into a graded lesson.

Key features

Word Packs cover HSK 1–5 lists in both HSK 2.0 and HSK 3.0, alongside themed collections. They provide ready-made material for learners who do not want to assemble every worksheet themselves. The Bookshelf adds two free interactive stories, Office Help and Four Cities Over Coffee; readers can check pinyin and translations, collect words, and reach one of 12 endings across the stories. Those collected words can become worksheet material, connecting reading with handwriting without claiming to teach a full course.

Ink Rush offers 60-second handwriting-memory rounds with three lives and automatic checks for stroke order and direction. Free users get two rounds a day; Pro removes the round limit and adds a third rewarded round each day. It is a compact practice activity, not a substitute for structured assessment.

On iPad, users can write on worksheets with Apple Pencil, or export A4 PDFs for digital or paper practice. Free exports include a small Copybook Club signature near the page edge, described as a creator credit rather than a watermark. Worksheet generation and file processing run on-device. Selected worksheet records, saved filled PDFs, and progress can sync through the user's private iCloud database when available; core worksheets, Bookshelf reading, and Ink Rush continue locally without iCloud.

Pricing

Free — 0.00 USD per free. The free plan allows three worksheet generations per week, up to two pages per worksheet, selected fonts and palettes, free Word Packs, two free stories, two Ink Rush rounds per day, and PDF export. It is a practical way to try the core workflow, but the weekly generation and page caps constrain regular or longer practice.

Pro — custom pricing. Pro includes unlimited worksheet generation, longer worksheets, more customization, premium fonts and palettes, Pro Word Packs, and unlimited Ink Rush rounds. It is the better fit for frequent worksheet creation or users who need longer pages and the expanded vocabulary and design options. The free plan retains useful practice and export, but gives up those Pro capacities.

Platforms

Copybook Club is available on iOS. Apple Pencil worksheet writing is specifically supported on iPad; PDF export also supports digital or paper practice. Its core features work locally when iCloud is unavailable, while selected records and progress sync through private iCloud when available.

Who it's for

Choose Copybook Club if your priority is customizable Simplified Chinese handwriting practice, especially when you want to turn existing text, imported files, HSK lists, themed vocabulary, or story words into worksheets. Its English, Russian, and Spanish interface and Word Pack translations broaden its reach. Look elsewhere if you need a full Chinese course, flashcards, HSK progress tracking, handwriting grading, or personalized assessment; those are outside the app's scope.

Pros and cons

Pro: Flexible worksheet modes and detailed layout controls let learners choose between character-focused drills and preserving full text.
Pro: PDF, photo, and DOCX imports can be reviewed and edited before worksheet creation, while PDF export supports practice beyond the app.
Pro: On-device processing and local core features support use without a service connection; optional iCloud sync covers selected records and progress.
Con: Free users are limited to three generations weekly and two pages per worksheet, which may be restrictive for sustained practice.
Con: The iOS-only platform excludes Android and desktop users, and the app does not provide grading or a complete learning path.

Alternatives

For a wider set of handwriting options, browse Handwriting Practice Apps. Pick Writing Wizard if cross-platform access across Android, iOS, and Windows matters more than Copybook Club's Chinese worksheet workflow. Handwriting Repeater is a fit for sentence repetition without limits, subscriptions, or an account. Consider Hanzi Writer for core writing practice and, on Pro, unlimited daily practice with AI-generated custom topics.

iTrace suits handwriting warm-ups and interactive scenes, with a one-time premium unlock. Choose Kanji Dojo if broad platform support and an open-source app are priorities. Kitsunewa Writing Practice offers writing practice without signup, with a paid Pro tier. Nazoru is a better match for Japanese practice paths and integrations, with two full practices per day on its free plan. Turtle Practice is another free-download option for iOS and Android.

Verdict

Copybook Club is a strong fit for iOS learners who want to make their own Simplified Chinese handwriting practice from text, files, vocabulary packs, and reading. Its customization, editable imports, and PDF workflow are the reasons to choose it; its narrow scope and free-plan caps are the reasons to look elsewhere if you need broader instruction, assessment, or more generous routine use.
