Overview

Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Toronto, Credibled combines candidate reference outreach with verification workflows. Candidates submit their referees, and the service manages contact and follow-up; employers can review completed responses as PDFs. The mix of web access and an API gives teams a choice between a direct workflow and custom integration.

Credibled says production data is hosted in AWS Canada Central and encrypted in transit and at rest. It operates under Canadian privacy law, principally PIPEDA and applicable provincial law, and says its US background-check practices are FCRA-consistent. Buyers that require an existing SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certification should look elsewhere; Credibled says it is working toward SOC 2.

Key features

Reference requests are sent after candidates provide referee details, with reminders every 24 hours for up to 10 days. That takes routine follow-up off a recruiter’s plate, though the fixed cadence and window may not suit teams that need a different outreach schedule. Employers can build questionnaires around industries, job titles, and competencies, combining written answers with ratings.

Professional email validation and alerts when a candidate and referee access the service from the same IP provide useful fraud signals to review, not a definitive finding. Completed references can be exported as PDFs and emailed to employers, a practical handoff for teams that need to share results outside the service.

Credibled connects with Bullhorn, JobAdder, and Vincere, and its API supports custom hiring workflows, check-status webhooks, and separate sandbox and production keys. This makes it more adaptable for staffing operations than a standalone questionnaire tool. A free API sandbox lets developers work with documentation and a sandbox key without running real checks or incurring charges.

After referees complete a questionnaire, a lead-generation feature can gather details about potential job seekers and clients and email the requester. That may help staffing firms build business-development opportunities, but is less relevant to organizations using reference checks strictly for hiring.

Social-media screening is unavailable in Québec. Teams with that requirement cannot use Credibled for that part of their process.

Pricing

Credibled charges per check rather than requiring a recurring subscription. The API sandbox is 0.00 USD per free and includes documentation and a sandbox key; it does not run real checks. The NGO reference check costs 4.50 CAD per once for eligible non-profits, a 50% discount under the NGO Program.

The Automated reference check costs 9.00 CAD per once, billed per candidate and covering all references completed for that candidate. There is no subscription, monthly fee, or minimum commitment. This suits teams with variable hiring volume; organizations running frequent checks should still account for the per-candidate cost as volume grows. The free sandbox is for development, not a capped production tier.

Platforms

Credibled supports web use and API access. Its listed ATS integrations are Bullhorn, JobAdder, and Vincere; the API offers status-change webhooks plus distinct sandbox and production keys.

Who it's for

Staffing agencies can benefit from ATS integrations, reusable questionnaires, and the option to collect leads from referees. Small and mid-sized businesses, startups, non-profits, and regulated employers may value the per-candidate model and automated follow-up, with eligible non-profits paying the discounted rate. Buyers in Québec needing social-media screening, or procurement teams requiring current SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certification, are a poor fit.

Pros and cons

Pros: Per-candidate pricing has no monthly fee or minimum commitment, making costs easier to align with hiring volume.
Pros: Bullhorn, JobAdder, and Vincere integrations, alongside API webhooks and separate keys, support both common ATS workflows and custom builds.
Pros: A dedicated representative for every account, same-day business-hours replies, a Help Centre, monitored support channel, and live chat offer several support routes.
Cons: Social-media screening is unavailable in Québec, excluding a required screening channel for those employers.
Cons: The service is not currently SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certified, which may prevent adoption under some security requirements.
Cons: Automated reminders follow a set 24-hour cadence for up to 10 days, limiting control over follow-up timing.

Alternatives

Reference Check Software is the broader category directory for teams comparing reference-check products.

Consider VerifyRef if a credit bundle better fits your purchasing approach: its 5-credit plan is 33.00 USD per once, with credits that never expire, and it also offers a free plan and free trial.

HiveRef is another option for teams wanting a freemium service across Android, iOS, web, and API; its pay-as-you-go plan is 4.00 AUD per once per candidate check for up to 10 referees, with credits that never expire.

Vervoe offers an enterprise plan with SSO, regional data storage, and uptime and priority-support SLAs for buyers prioritizing those commitments.

Jointl may suit teams seeking a freemium platform with an Ultra plan covering unlimited flows, applicants, pre-screening, data collection, and assessments.

Referoo is an alternative for teams looking for reference checks alongside work-history review, fraud detection, talent pooling, and custom branding.

The Reference Checker offers a web-based single-user plan at 40.00 GBP per month with automated requests, email and SMS reminders, and customizable templates and questions.

Xref Engage is an option for organizations that already have an active Xref Enterprise subscription and want its additional offering.

Zinc is another paid web-based candidate-screening alternative.

Verdict

Credibled is a strong fit for staffing agencies and employers that want automated reference collection, configurable questions, ATS connectivity, and custom API workflows without a recurring subscription. The main reason to choose it is the combination of per-candidate pricing and integration depth; look elsewhere if Québec social-media screening or current SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certification is mandatory.
