Overview

The platform brings audit planning, evidence collection, control testing, findings and remediation into a workflow built for internal audit. Linking audit plans to enterprise risk and prioritizing risk can help chief audit executives direct assurance work toward higher-priority areas. The scope is more focused than a general audit platform: supported audit types center on internal audit.

Questionnaire and audit templates, framework mapping, workflow automation and a SOX control library support structured programs. The broader governance capabilities include ownership structures, governance documents, filing-deadline tracking and multi-country jurisdiction coverage. That breadth may suit organizations managing audit alongside governance obligations, though teams seeking only lightweight audit tracking may find the platform broader than their needs.

Key features

AI-assisted audit workflows

AuditAI can roll prior audits forward, draft evidence requests, send follow-ups, execute control tests and prepare reports. These functions target recurring coordination and documentation work, while leaving consequential actions subject to human approval. Diligent says recommendations are explainable and overrideable, and actions are recorded in an audit trail. That governance approach is relevant for teams adopting AI in assurance work, but it does not eliminate the need for reviewers to validate outputs.

Risk and control monitoring

Audit plans can be connected to enterprise risk, with risk prioritization and natural-language analysis of data to support planning. Agentic AI monitors controls for gaps and exceptions, with actions held for review. Continuous monitoring, control testing workflows, deficiency management, management certifications and remediation tracking make the product relevant to teams that need a continuing view of control status rather than periodic audit execution alone.

Evidence, reporting and integrations

Evidence collection, findings and actions are supported, and AI can summarize findings or prepare board-ready reports. Data connectors for SAP, Oracle and Concur can help connect audit work with data in those systems. This combination is useful when reporting and evidence gathering are central to the audit cycle; teams should still assess whether the named connectors cover their actual stack.

Security and onboarding

Diligent’s audit leadership page lists FedRAMP and DoD IL5 authorization, end-to-end encryption, audit trails and role-based access controls. These controls may matter to organizations with stringent security requirements. The product page says most organizations transition from manual processes within three months, supported by streamlined onboarding and pre-built workflow templates; that offers a concrete implementation expectation, not a guarantee for every deployment.

Pricing

Diligent Audit is paid, with custom pricing available by request. There is no free plan, and no published price or seat or usage quota to compare against a team’s audit volume. Prospective customers should request a quote and establish what scope and terms it covers before evaluating total cost.

The Diligent Audit plan includes audit templates, evidence collection and findings and actions. Teams that need a transparent per-seat price or a free tier to validate fit should consider alternatives with those terms.

Platforms

Diligent’s platform information names Android, iOS, web and API. Its audit materials also describe mobile apps and offline modes for fieldwork, but the product’s mobile-app attribute is recorded as web-only. Organizations that depend on mobile or offline work should confirm supported devices and offline behavior before committing. API availability may matter to teams integrating the platform into existing systems, though the specific API capabilities are not detailed.

Who it's for

Diligent Audit is aimed at internal audit teams and chief audit executives who need to connect planning, risk monitoring, control testing and assurance reporting. It is a stronger fit for organizations with recurring audit and control programs, particularly those that value human review of AI-assisted actions and need governance capabilities alongside audit workflows.

It is less compelling for buyers needing a broad set of audit types, self-serve pricing or a free entry point. Organizations with strict fieldwork requirements should also resolve the mobile and offline fit before selecting it.

Pros and cons

Risk-linked planning: Connecting audit plans to enterprise risk and risk prioritization can help teams focus assurance work.
Broad audit workflow: Templates, evidence collection, control testing, findings and remediation support work across the audit cycle.
Governed AI assistance: Human approval, explainable and overrideable recommendations, and an audit trail address accountability for consequential actions.
Enterprise-oriented security: FedRAMP and DoD IL5 authorization, encryption and role-based access controls may suit organizations with stringent requirements.
Custom pricing: Buyers must request a quote, limiting upfront cost comparison.
Mobile ambiguity: Mobile apps and offline modes are described, while the product attribute says web-only; field teams need confirmation.
Focused audit scope: The supported audit type is internal audit, which may not meet teams seeking broader audit coverage.

Alternatives

For buyers comparing adjacent governance and board tools, Board Portal Software, Board Management Software, HR Policy Management Software, and Legal Entity Management Software cover neighboring categories rather than replacing Diligent Audit’s internal audit focus. Teams evaluating dedicated audit tools can also compare the Audit Management Software category, while buyers centered on SOX programs can review SOX Compliance Software.

Admincontrol Board Portal is a paid Android, iOS and web option with custom pricing for organizational needs; choose it when board portal use, rather than internal audit workflows, is the priority. Zeck is a paid web option with custom pricing, but no further differentiating product facts are available for a closer comparison. BoardOS is a paid web option with a free trial and a Board plan that allows unlimited members and observers; its Board + Committees plan includes priority support and onboarding, with committee workspaces coming soon. Consider it when those board-management terms matter more than audit-specific controls and workflows.

BoardPAC is a paid alternative across Android, iOS, macOS, self-hosted, web and Windows platforms; choose it when those deployment options are the priority. BoardSpot offers a paid Essentials plan at 105.00 USD per month, billed monthly, with unlimited document storage, unlimited committees and no additional per-user cost. It may suit buyers focused on those board collaboration terms rather than internal audit. Boardtrac is a paid alternative whose Silver plan offers a choice among Minutes & Tasks, Boardpack PDF, Download Audit or a shared content library, along with phone and email support and live training webinars; it is relevant when those board-focused capabilities are the need.

Stellar Library has a Not-for-Profit Boards plan at 1800.00 USD per year, billed annually, plus GST, with agenda and board-pack building, live minutes, annotations, actions and voting. It is worth considering for not-for-profit board work rather than internal audit. Aprio Board Portal is a paid option with a free trial, pay-per-user licensing, all features included, and unlimited committees and administrators; it may suit teams prioritizing those board-portal terms.

Verdict

Choose Diligent Audit if your internal audit program needs risk-linked planning, ongoing control monitoring and AI assistance with human approval and recorded actions. Its strongest case is the combination of audit-cycle workflows and governance controls for consequential AI use. Look elsewhere if you need published pricing, a free plan, broader audit-type coverage or unambiguous mobile and offline support without further confirmation.
