Overview

Deltek Maconomy is a cloud ERP built for professional services organizations managing complex, client-billable work. It suits mid-sized and large firms in fields such as consulting, architecture, engineering, marketing, and research. Its appeal is the connection between project finances and delivery; custom pricing and limits on cloud extensibility make it a deliberate enterprise choice.

Key features

Maconomy links resource planning, project tracking, financial accounting, and business intelligence. Teams can monitor work in progress, revenue, and profitability at the project level, with support for global finance and compliance. Hourly, fixed-fee, and progress billing, automated invoicing, and revenue recognition are useful when a firm needs to manage different commercial arrangements without separating project operations from finance.

Time, expense, and absence tools include mobile use, approvals, and policy enforcement. The browser-based Web Client supports tasks including time and expense entry, approvals, jobs, invoices, purchase orders, and reports. Mobile apps, offline tracking, timesheet approvals, and utilization reporting support teams working away from a central office. Geofencing, kiosk mode, break and overtime tracking, and payroll integrations add workforce-management functions, though firms should weigh that breadth against their specific operational needs.

Ask Dela answers natural-language questions about Maconomy data, while Smart Summaries provide overviews of project, customer, and financial performance. Financial controls, audit trails, standardized workflows, and multi-entity compliance frameworks are relevant for organizations that need consistent governance across entities.

For Maconomy Essentials and Flex cloud offerings, Deltek identifies the RESTful API as the supported integration method. It also reserves the right to close API sessions that affect performance in its multi-tenant cloud environment. That constraint matters to teams planning sustained or intensive integrations: they should account for session behavior rather than assume unrestricted API access. Essentials has no extensions; Flex includes basic and intermediate extensibility, while Enterprise is another cloud format.

Pricing

Deltek Maconomy has custom pricing, with pricing handled by demo request. There is no free plan, so smaller firms or teams wanting to evaluate the product without a sales process should expect a higher commitment than a self-serve tool. Maconomy Cloud is offered in Essentials, Flex, and Enterprise formats. Essentials is the most constrained on extensibility, with no extensions; Flex includes basic and intermediate extensibility. The available pricing details do not establish a price difference between those formats, so buyers should compare the extension needs of their planned deployment directly with Deltek.

Deltek Cloud subscribers can also purchase packaged Customer Success Plans covering support, professional services, product training, and customer success management. This can suit firms that want structured help around implementation and ongoing use, but it is an additional consideration when assessing total cost.

Platforms

Maconomy supports web, Android, iOS, Linux, and Windows, and offers an API. Its cloud deployment and browser-based client give users access to core work such as time entry, approvals, invoices, and reports; mobile support and offline tracking are useful for distributed teams.

Who it's for

Maconomy is strongest for mid-sized and large professional services firms whose projects require close coordination between resourcing, billable work, finance, and compliance. Consulting, architecture, engineering, marketing, and research organizations with multiple billing models or entities are natural candidates. A small team seeking transparent prices, a free tier, or broad customization in the entry cloud format should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Project-level financial visibility: Tracking work in progress, revenue, and profitability by project helps finance and delivery teams work from connected project economics.
Flexible billing coverage: Hourly, fixed-fee, and progress billing plus automated invoicing and revenue recognition suit firms with varied client agreements.
Governance for complex organizations: Financial controls, audit trails, workflows, and multi-entity compliance support enterprise operating requirements.
Cloud integration needs care: REST API sessions that harm performance may be closed in Essentials and Flex, creating a real constraint for integration designs that rely on persistent or high-impact sessions.
Extensibility varies by cloud format: Essentials has no extensions, so firms needing customization must consider Flex or Enterprise rather than assume every cloud option can be extended.
Sales-led pricing: Custom pricing and the absence of a free plan make cost discovery and evaluation less straightforward for smaller buyers.

Alternatives

For firms comparing project and construction-oriented systems, CMiC is a paid option with Android, iOS, web, API, and self-hosted platform support; its plan is described for general contractors, subcontractors, and heavy highway. Choose it when those construction segments or self-hosting matter more than Maconomy's professional-services focus.

BuilderXPro is a paid product with a free trial and a Solo plan priced at 46.00 USD per month, billed annually. Consider it when a trial and a published Solo price are priorities instead of Maconomy's custom-priced enterprise approach.

Procore has a custom annual subscription based on selected products and Annual Construction Volume, with an upfront annual fee. It is a relevant alternative for buyers evaluating a construction-focused subscription structure.

Smarfle offers a Solo plan at 19.00 USD per month on a month-to-month basis, for one user and up to 100 clients, with a free trial. It is worth considering when a low-cost, small-team entry point is more important than Maconomy's broad ERP scope.

Depot CRM has a free plan for one user, capped at 100 contacts and 200 emails per month, as well as a paid plan at 5.00 USD per month billed monthly. Choose it when a tightly capped free CRM or low monthly price is the requirement rather than project ERP.

Hyphen CRM is a paid alternative available on Android, iOS, and web.

NEWSTAR is a paid web-based alternative.

Buildr has custom pricing and offers unlimited users and data, importing, in-house support, guided onboarding, implementation services, and training. It may suit buyers prioritizing those provisions in a cloud product.

Verdict

Choose Deltek Maconomy if your mid-sized or large professional services firm needs project delivery, resource planning, billing, and finance governed in one cloud ERP. Its project-level financial tracking and billing breadth are the clearest reasons to shortlist it. Look elsewhere if transparent pricing, extensive Essentials customization, or unconstrained API sessions are central requirements.
