Overview

Describely brings catalog audits, missing-data enrichment, listing generation and channel publishing together. It generates descriptions, titles, bullet points and tags, and can fill gaps using manufacturer or supplier information. That combination is most useful when product data cleanup and listing creation are linked jobs, rather than when a team needs a general-purpose writing assistant.

Custom rulesets apply tone, style and content guidelines to generated material, while AI image enhancements extend the workflow to product visuals. ShopAssist adds 24/7 AI chat for customer support and shopping assistance. These features broaden the tool, but the core fit remains managing product content at catalog scale.

Key features

Bulk generation: Upload a catalog and generate thousands of descriptions at once. This targets repetitive work across large inventories, though CSV or workbook imports must be under 100 MB and include a Title column.
Data enrichment: Missing product details can be filled from manufacturer or supplier information, helping teams address incomplete records alongside copy creation.
Brand controls: Custom rulesets apply tone, style and content guidelines automatically. This can support consistent output across a catalog, but does not remove the need to review product-specific details.
Integrations and publishing: Connections include Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Akeneo, CSV and Excel. The range gives commerce teams several routes into existing catalog workflows.
Additional content tools: SEO copy tools, support for 18 languages, AI image enhancements and ShopAssist extend beyond core listing text. Ad copy and sales email copy are not part of the offering.

Pricing

The Free version costs 0.00 USD per free and is capped at 5 products. It offers a way to assess the workflow on a small catalog, but that ceiling rules it out for ongoing use across a larger inventory.

Pay as you go costs 0.75 USD per month, billed Per product for up to 500 products. The per-product basis makes the plan relevant to catalogs within that range, but teams should factor the product count into their budget rather than treating the monthly figure as a flat price. High volume is custom pricing for 500+ SKUs.

The free trial includes unlimited product import, unlimited connectors and integrations, and unlimited users and team invites. Bulk generation and enrichment are each limited to 5 products, so the trial can expose setup and connectivity without demonstrating those core operations at scale. API usage is priced at $0.20 per 1,000 tokens; typical product generations use 1,000–3,000 tokens, which adds a separate usage cost for API-driven workflows.

Platforms

Describely is available through web and API. Data can enter through its commerce integrations or CSV and Excel files. Imports must be under 100 MB and contain a Title column, so teams with different export formats will need to prepare their catalogs first.

Data is stored on AWS and encrypted at rest and in transit. Customer data is not used to train its AI module; access can be revoked and data-removal requests can be made. Support includes kickoff calls and email at support@describely.ai.

Who it's for

Describely is a sensible fit for commerce teams that manage many SKUs, need to enrich incomplete product records and want consistent listings across connected sales channels. Brand rules, bulk generation and broad user access in the trial all speak to coordinated catalog work.

It is less compelling for a handful of products, teams seeking ad or sales-email copy, or catalogs that cannot meet the import format and size requirements. The five-product limits on free and trial generation also make those tiers a narrow proof of concept rather than a full catalog evaluation.

Pros and cons

Pro: Enrichment and listing generation share a workflow, reducing the need to separate catalog cleanup from content production.
Pro: Custom rulesets and integrations with major commerce platforms support consistent content across connected channels.
Pro: The trial permits unlimited imports, integrations and team invites, useful for checking setup with a team before choosing a plan.
Con: Free use and trial generation are limited to 5 products, too little to validate bulk results across a substantial catalog.
Con: Imports require a Title column and a file under 100 MB, creating a preparation step for catalogs in other formats or larger files.
Con: API charges are token-based and separate from the per-product plan, so API users need to account for both pricing dimensions.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see AI Product Description Generators, AI Copywriting Software and AI Writing Tools.

CopyMonkey is the closer listing-focused alternative: its Starter annual plan includes a listing generator, listing audit, keyword uploader, edits, export and chat support. Kua.ai is another freemium API and web option, with its Free plan capped at one seat, 30 chats and 100 workflow credits monthly.

Rytr offers a free forever tier with 10K characters per month, 40+ use cases, 20+ tones and a Chrome extension, making it a fit to consider for broader copy tasks. Frase combines API, extension and web access with a Starter plan for one site and one person; its monthly or yearly billing terms distinguish it from Describely's per-product pricing.

Copy.ai has a freemium Chat plan at 29.00 USD per month for 5 seats, while Anyword is a paid option with a Starter plan at 49.00 USD per month, one seat and one brand voice. NEURONwriter is a paid web and extension tool with a Bronze plan at 23.00 USD per month. Jounce offers a free-to-start plan across web and desktop platforms.

Verdict

Choose Describely if a commerce team needs to enrich and generate product listings at scale, with brand controls and channel connections in the same workflow. Its main advantage is that catalog data and content work stay connected; look elsewhere if a five-product evaluation is too small, imports do not fit its requirements, or you need a general copy tool with ad and sales-email generation.
