Overview

DeskBroadcast is a Mac app that processes webcam video and microphone audio into virtual camera and mic devices for calls, recording and streaming. It suits Mac users who want control over both picture and voice without sending media off-device. Its breadth of adjustments is a strength; its watermark-bearing free plan and macOS-only support narrow the fit.

Key features

Picture controls

The Look pipeline offers live warmth, tint, exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, vibrance and sharpness controls, plus background blur. Software adjustments work with every camera, including the built-in camera, while hardware controls require a UVC-compliant USB webcam. That makes the built-in camera a workable choice for software refinement, but not for hardware adjustment.

Microphone processing

The mic chain combines AI voice isolation with hum filtering, gating, four-band EQ, compression and automatic level adjustment. Isolation adds about 40 ms of latency and uses under a tenth of one CPU core, a modest processing cost for teams that want a cleaner voice in live calls. A live RTA spectrum analyzer helps with physical gain adjustment, and an eight-second mic check replays raw and processed voice for comparison.

Virtual devices and local processing

Apps including Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack, FaceTime, OBS and browsers can select DeskBroadcast Camera and DeskBroadcast Mic. The app supports recording and streaming, and users can save camera looks and microphone chains as presets for contexts such as a podcast, pitch or stand-up.

Video, audio and the learned room-noise profile stay on the Mac; DeskBroadcast has no account, no media telemetry pipeline and works offline. Its embedded voice-isolation model is DeepFilterNet 3, distributed in the app under MIT/Apache-2.0 licensing. The virtual camera runs as a signed, notarized, user-approved CoreMediaIO Camera Extension in a sandboxed process.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and is described as fully functional and lasting forever, but adds a visible “deskbroadcast.com” watermark to video output. It is useful for evaluating the workflow or accepting the watermark in non-public use; anyone presenting polished video should consider Pro.

Pro costs 79.00 USD per once, as a single one-time payment, and covers 3 Macs. There is no free trial, but Pro purchases qualify for a full refund if requested within 14 days. The one-time term avoids a recurring subscription; the three-Mac allowance suits a small personal setup, but not a larger team needing more seats.

Platforms

DeskBroadcast requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later and supports both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. It is not a fit for teams that need the same processing workflow on Windows or Linux.

Who it's for

DeskBroadcast is best for Mac-based creators and teams who want one configurable camera-and-microphone path across calls, recording and streaming, with local offline processing. The camera controls can help refine even a built-in webcam, while the mic chain gives voice-oriented users several adjustments beyond noise isolation. It is less suitable when cross-platform consistency, watermark-free free use or team-scale licensing is essential.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad live image and voice controls feed virtual devices that work with common meeting, streaming and browser apps.
Pros: Media and the learned room-noise profile remain local, with offline operation and no account requirement.
Pros: The 79.00 USD per once Pro payment covers 3 Macs, with a 14-day refund window.
Cons: Free video output carries a visible watermark, limiting its usefulness for professional-facing video.
Cons: macOS 14 Sonoma or later is required, so mixed Windows or Linux teams cannot standardize on it.
Cons: Pro is limited to 3 Macs, which may not cover larger teams.

Alternatives

For a noise-cancellation-focused comparison, consider AI Noise Cancellation Software; for camera-device options, see Virtual Camera Software or Webcam Software.

Kleervox is a better fit for Linux, Windows or web users who need a virtual microphone and can work within its free plan’s one hour of cleaning per day. Linux users seeking a free option for PulseAudio or PipeWire can consider NoiseTorch-ng. Mac users looking for a free, open-source, MIT-licensed option can consider NoNoise Mac.

NVIDIA ShadowPlay is a free Windows option with a supported-GPU requirement; NVIDIA Broadcast offers free AI audio and video effects for RTX PCs and workstations. Developers who want the noise-isolation model itself rather than DeskBroadcast’s bundled studio can consider DeepFilterNet, which is free and open source under MIT or Apache-2.0. Noise Suppression for Voice and Alt Denoiser are also free options.

Verdict

Choose DeskBroadcast if your work runs on a supported Mac and you want a local, configurable path for both webcam image and microphone sound, with a one-time Pro license for up to 3 Macs. Look elsewhere if you need cross-platform support or watermark-free video without paying: those are the clearest limits on an otherwise well-rounded Mac studio tool.
