Overview

The central proposition is focused: provide email content and a JSON Schema, then receive structured, validated output synchronously. Teams can define an inline schema without registering it first, or start from schemas for common receipts, orders, notifications, invoices, travel bookings, and shipping messages. That flexibility suits product teams with defined downstream data models better than teams seeking a general-purpose inbox or document-processing suite.

MailFrame is in limited early access, with developers onboarded in weekly batches. That makes it a plausible fit for teams willing to work with an early product, but a less comfortable choice when immediate, predictable access is a requirement.

Key features

Schema-based parsing

Inline JSON Schema support avoids a setup step for each custom extraction format, while prebuilt options cover Stripe and Shopify receipts or orders, PayPal and Amazon receipts, Apple App Store and Google Play receipts, GitHub notifications, invoices, travel bookings, and shipping notifications. The breadth is useful for common operational email, but the schema approach still assumes the team can describe the JSON shape it needs.

Webhook delivery

MailFrame supports signed HMAC-SHA256 webhooks with retries, attempt history, a dead-letter queue, and replay. Those controls help teams deliver results into systems that accept webhooks and investigate failed attempts without building every delivery safeguard themselves. MailFrame is API-first, however, and the integration model depends on downstream webhook compatibility.

Input and data handling

Current inputs are raw RFC 822 MIME and plain-text email-like content. PDF and image input are planned, and attachment parsing and OCR extraction are unavailable, so teams whose documents arrive as files should choose a service that processes those inputs now. MailFrame says it retains raw email only as long as needed to return results and support debugging, and does not sell or share customer data. API keys are stored hashed, so the original key cannot be recovered from its records.

SOC 2 Type II remains on the roadmap, and MailFrame is not yet HIPAA-eligible as a Business Associate. Organizations with those compliance requirements should not treat the roadmap as current eligibility.

Pricing

MailFrame uses a freemium model. Free costs $0 /mo and includes 100 parse operations per month, one active schema, webhook delivery, and community support, with no credit card required. It is a low-commitment way to validate the workflow, but the one-schema and 100-operation caps make it a limited production tier.

Indie costs $19 /mo for 500 parse operations per month, five active schemas, signed webhook delivery, email support, and schema versioning. It also charges $0.038 per document after the included quota. This is the practical entry point for a small integration with several formats; the operation cap may constrain higher-volume use.

Startup costs $49 /mo and raises the quota to 5,000 parse operations per month with unlimited schemas, API key scoping, and priority support, plus $0.0098 per document after the quota. PDF and image input and confidence scoring are marked planned, so they are not current reasons to upgrade. Startup better suits a growing service that needs more formats and volume, but not one that requires attachment processing today.

Scale costs $149 /mo for 50,000 parse operations per month, unlimited schemas, cache hits included, custom webhook rate limits, and a $0.003 per-document overage rate. Async or batch API is planned, and the uptime target is post-GA; neither should be treated as a current capability or commitment. Enterprise has custom pricing, starts at 100k+ parse operations per month, and includes custom volume pricing, dedicated infrastructure, custom SLAs, an account manager, and SSO / SAML. SOC 2 is still on the roadmap there as well.

The maker describes the Free tier as a way to validate the product before upgrading. Paid tiers have monthly prices as stated, and the published quotas and overage rates matter for teams projecting usage. The stated monthly email limit is 500 emails per month, separate from the plan-specific parse-operation quotas.

Platforms

MailFrame is available as an API and through the web. API access and webhook delivery make it oriented toward integration into an existing application rather than standalone email operations.

Who it's for

MailFrame best fits developers who need to convert inbound email into typed JSON and send it into their own services, especially when custom schemas and webhook delivery are central. It is a weaker fit for attachment-centric document workflows, OCR needs, or workloads requiring HIPAA eligibility or current SOC 2 Type II status.

Pros and cons

Pros: Inline schemas and a substantial prebuilt library let teams match output to application data models without a schema-registration step.
Pros: Signed webhook delivery includes retries, failure history, dead-letter handling, and replay, giving integrations more operational control.
Pros: Free allows 100 monthly parse operations without a credit card, supporting an initial workflow check before a paid commitment.
Cons: Raw MIME and plain-text inputs exclude current PDF and image parsing; attachment parsing and OCR are unavailable.
Cons: Limited early access and weekly onboarding batches may not suit teams needing immediate access.
Cons: SOC 2 Type II is on the roadmap and the service is not yet HIPAA-eligible as a Business Associate, limiting regulated use.

Alternatives

Consider noima when its free one-time 10-document allowance or its Starter tier of 150 documents per month and 60-day retention better matches a document-volume or retention need.

Parserr is worth comparing when its free allowance of 15 emails and 10 documents monthly, one inbox, and Zapier and Microsoft Flow integrations better fit the workflow.

Choose Parsio Receipt OCR when the stated receipt-OCR focus and free 30-credit monthly tier are a closer match.

Parsli may suit a small initial test when its 10 free signup pages and API access plus integrations are sufficient.

Consider DigiParser when payslip parsing is the target use case; its paid plan starts at $14/month for 100 payslips.

Airparser may be preferable when a 20-credit trial with all features included and 30-day document retention is the desired evaluation model.

Choose MailParse when a desktop or self-hosted option is more important; its listed platforms include Linux, macOS, Windows, and self-hosted, and its Starter plan includes an IMAP mailbox and saved templates.

inbound is an alternative when higher stated email quotas matter: its Default plan includes 5,000 emails per month for $9/mo, while Pro includes 50,000 emails per month for $15/mo.

Verdict

MailFrame is a strong candidate for developers who need schema-shaped JSON from inbound email and reliable webhook delivery into an existing stack. Its flexible schemas and operational delivery features make it compelling within that narrow job. Choose another service if attachments or OCR are essential, if early access is unacceptable, or if current HIPAA eligibility or SOC 2 Type II is a requirement.
