Overview

Digital Place brings content management, low-code forms, case workflows and customer contact tools into one platform. More than 150 reusable components, called cubes, are grouped into feature packs, giving organizations a way to select capabilities rather than build every service element from scratch. That breadth can help teams connect public-facing information to operational processes, but buyers should establish which packs their services require before assessing cost.

Placecube describes Digital Place as co-created for the public sector and cites experience in central and local government, housing, healthcare and policing. That sector focus makes it a natural candidate for public services, particularly where publishing is only one part of a digital service. It is less compelling for a team seeking only a straightforward website without connected forms or workflows.

Key features

Content, forms and workflows

No-code and low-code tools support multi-stage forms, configurable templates and approval workflows. For teams building services that move from information to an application or case process, that combination can reduce the need to treat each step as a separate capability. Feature packs cover Core DXP, Low-Code Application Platform, CRM, E-Commerce, Collaboration and Local Gov DXP; the modular approach offers range, though it also means buyers need to confirm the exact pack mix needed for their use case.

APIs and integrations

OpenAPI-compliant REST APIs and REST endpoints generated by low-code data objects give developers defined ways to connect platform data and services. Named integrations and connectors include Microsoft Active Directory, SharePoint, PowerBI, Dynamics, ArcGIS, OpenAI, Academy, IDOX Uniform, NEC M3/Assure, Bartec, Whitespace and Echo. This is a useful foundation for organizations whose stack includes those systems, but the presence of a connector alone does not establish whether a particular deployment will cover every integration requirement.

Security, hosting and service commitments

Placecube states that its operations, development lifecycles and cloud hosting are covered by ISO 27001 certification and Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation. Digital Place supports MFA and role-based access control, while hosting runs on AWS; UK clients are hosted in the London region and international environments are deployed in local AWS regions. The stated availability SLA is at least 99.9%, with a four-hour recovery time objective and a 15-minute recovery point objective. These commitments provide useful operational parameters for procurement, though teams should assess them against their own service requirements.

Accessibility and publishing

The Local Gov DXP pack's accelerators use GOV.UK Design System styles and components and are described as WCAG 2.2 AA compliant by default. The platform also supports multilingual publishing, document management and multi-site publishing. The accessibility commitment described applies to that pack's accelerators, so organizations considering other packs should confirm how their own content and components will meet their accessibility needs.

Pricing

Digital Place is paid software with custom pricing. The Digital Place plan uses all-inclusive SaaS pricing, with subscriptions based on selected feature packs. That model may suit organizations that need a tailored combination of capabilities, but there is no published price to compare against a fixed budget or a simpler site-only option. Placecube offers a tailored demonstration arranged by product specialists on request; buyers should use that discussion to clarify pack selection and pricing.

Platforms

Digital Place is available via web and API. Its API access and REST endpoints are relevant for teams integrating it with other services, while the web platform covers its content and service experience.

Who it's for

Digital Place is strongest for public-sector organizations that need content, applications and service workflows to work together, especially across government, housing, healthcare or policing. The Local Gov DXP pack's GOV.UK-based accelerators may be particularly relevant to local authorities. Organizations with a narrower publishing requirement, or those that need a public price before engaging a vendor, should compare more directly priced or open-source choices.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 150 reusable cubes across six feature packs give public-sector teams a broad set of components to assemble around service needs.
Pros: Low-code forms, workflows and generated REST endpoints connect service processes with integration options without limiting the platform to publishing alone.
Pros: Named security accreditations, MFA, role-based access, regional AWS hosting and stated recovery objectives offer concrete procurement considerations.
Cons: Custom pricing and feature-pack configuration make it difficult to judge cost or compare subscriptions without a vendor discussion.
Cons: The accessibility claim described is for Local Gov DXP accelerators, not a blanket assurance for every deployment or content choice.

Alternatives

For councils comparing options, start with Government Website Builders. LocalGov Drupal is a free, open-source option for UK and Irish councils, with API, self-hosted and web platforms; choose it when that council-focused free model is preferable to Digital Place's custom-priced feature packs. GovCMS is a paid, self-hosted and web platform with API access; its SaaS Nano plan costs 9260.00 USD per year, plus a $1,045.00 setup fee, and covers up to 5,000 page views and 15,000 hits per month, making it a comparison for teams evaluating a defined annual price and usage allowance.

CMS Max has a Lite plan at 40.00 USD per month for small websites with minimal plugins or limited eCommerce needs, with unlimited admin accounts and permissions and API access; it may suit a smaller, more limited site requirement. Contensis for Councils offers paid web and API access, with Starter from £920 per month for one project, five concurrent users, 50GB storage and 200GB bandwidth, or Plus at £1,640 per month; compare it when those stated plan limits provide a better fit. Jadu Central is another paid web and API-capable option, with pricing available by request.

Government Site Builder offers an open-source distribution under GPL 3.0 at no charge, though hosting, support, training and custom development may incur costs; it is relevant when an open-source self-hosted approach is preferred. Govstack CMS is a paid web platform with pricing available by contacting Govstack. Content Management Framework is another free web option.

Verdict

Digital Place is a strong candidate for public-sector teams that need publishing, forms, workflows and integrations under one SaaS platform. Its reusable components, APIs and sector-oriented packs are the main reasons to choose it; its custom pricing and configurable scope are the main reasons to look elsewhere if budget certainty or a simpler website is the priority.
