Overview

Dojo is a payment provider for businesses that need card machines, online and phone payments, and tools to manage transactions across locations. It suits merchants—especially in hospitality, leisure and services—that want payment hardware alongside EPOS connections; businesses comparing providers on a fully predictable transaction cost should weigh its rate and plan terms closely.

Its combination of card-present, tableside, mobile and online payments makes Dojo a plausible fit for operators handling several kinds of sale. Sidekick adds refunds, reconciliation and real-time insights, while the hardware range covers countertop, portable and kiosk use. Dojo advertises 99.99% uptime and says it has no fixed contracts at sign-up, although eligible businesses can choose a custom rate with either a 12-month fixed or 30-day rolling plan.

Key features

Payments across channels: Dojo handles card-present, online, tableside and mobile payments, as well as phone payments. This breadth can suit a merchant that wants one provider across counter, table and remote orders.
Sidekick and reconciliation: Sidekick brings payments, refunds, reconciliation and real-time business insights together, including across multiple locations. That makes it more compelling for operators coordinating sites than for a business that only needs a card terminal.
Payment options: Plan features include payment links, native-currency payments, digital and printed receipts, bill splitting, cashback, tipping and pre-authorisations. These options support varied service workflows, but the features are plan-dependent.
EPOS and developer connections: Dojo says it works with more than 450 EPOS providers and syncs transactions between the card machine and EPOS for reconciliation. APIs cover online payments and EPOS integrations; developers also get mobile integration documentation and a prebuilt checkout page. Integrated payments support Pay at Table and Pay at Counter, with technical support seven days a week from 8am to 11pm.
Security and support: Dojo says its payment-card processing, storage and transmission environments are PCI DSS compliant and assessed annually by an independent Qualified Security Assessor; transmissions use TLS. Its machines include point-to-point encryption and instant fraud detection. The company says customers can reach a UK-based person within minutes and that its team can remotely access a device to help.

Pricing

The Essential plan costs 0.00 GBP per month, billed per month/location. It includes core tools, all major card types, real-time transactions and easy PCI-compliance. That gives a business a no-monthly-fee starting point, but the separate transaction rate remains important: for annual card turnover below £100,000, Dojo lists an all-in blended rate of 1.20 % per contact for all card transactions.

Plus costs 11.99 GBP per month, billed per month/location. The page shows ~~£25~~£11.99* and limits the offer to new customers and new locations of existing customers. It adds customer spend tracking, competitor benchmarking, weekly performance reports and remote refunds. This is the stronger fit for businesses that can use those insights and refund controls; Essential gives up those listed additions.

Tap to Pay on iPhone is 0.00 GBP per free, with no contract. It lets a business take contactless payments using an iPhone and the Dojo app without extra hardware, but it is a narrower option than a dedicated card machine.

Hardware can be paid monthly or upfront. Dojo Wired, a countertop or kiosk machine, costs 15.00 GBP per month or 179.00 GBP per once upfront. Dojo Pocket, a portable device for orders and payments, costs 20.00 GBP per month or 239.00 GBP per once. Dojo Go Max hardware costs 25.00 GBP per month or 149.00 GBP per once upfront; the upfront price is marked as a launch offer and the page also shows £229. Monthly pricing avoids an upfront purchase, while upfront pricing removes the monthly hardware charge. Eligible businesses can request a custom rate under a 12-month fixed plan or a 30-day rolling plan.

Platforms

Dojo supports Android, iOS, web and API access. The mix covers mobile device use, browser-based work and developer integration, with the exact setup depending on the payment channel and hardware chosen.

Who it's for

Dojo is best suited to small businesses and expanding enterprises that take payments in person and through online or phone channels, particularly hospitality, leisure and service operators. EPOS synchronization and multi-location insights are meaningful advantages for teams reconciling transactions across systems or sites. A business that needs a simple, single-purpose reader or a firm total cost independent of transaction mix may prefer to compare other providers.

Pros and cons

Pro: Payment acceptance spans in-person, tableside, mobile, online and phone, which can consolidate several sales channels.
Pro: More than 450 EPOS partnerships and transaction syncing support reconciliation without treating the card machine and EPOS as separate workflows.
Pro: Sidekick includes multi-location insights, refunds and reconciliation, a practical combination for operators managing more than one site.
Con: The 1.20 % per contact rate applies to businesses below £100,000 annual card turnover, so transaction costs still need to be assessed alongside the free monthly plan.
Con: Plus pricing is restricted to new customers and new locations of existing customers, limiting who can use its additional reporting and refund tools at the shown price.
Con: The hardware choice carries different monthly or upfront costs, so businesses must match device type and payment term to their counter or portable-service needs.

Verdict

Choose Dojo if your business needs card machines, payments across several channels and EPOS-linked reconciliation, particularly when Sidekick's multi-location tools can support daily operations. Its broad payment coverage, developer connections and hardware choices are the main reasons to shortlist it. Look elsewhere if a low or no monthly plan is not enough and you need a simpler, fully predictable cost before accounting for the transaction rate, device and plan terms.
