Overview

JustGiving is a fundraising service founded in 2000 and now part of the Blackbaud family. It is a strong fit for charities that need to combine supporter-led fundraising with campaign pages and direct donation forms. Its breadth is useful, but the cost depends on how donations are routed and whether the charity reclaims Gift Aid through the platform.

Key features

Supporters can create fundraising pages, tell their own story and share the page using built-in tools. This gives charities a way to support individual fundraisers without building each appeal around a central page. For organised appeals, events or projects, charities can create a branded campaign hub connecting donations with supporters’ fundraising pages.

Giving Checkout supplies customisable direct-donation forms, with 0% processing and platform fees on those donations. UK Gift Aid processing through Checkout still carries a 5% fee. That distinction makes Checkout valuable when a charity can steer donors to its forms; other donations may incur standard processing charges.

Reporting supports up to eight saved report templates, selected-data exports and donor opt-in collection. The tools cover recurring reporting needs, though a team with more than eight distinct report formats may need to manage without saving every template. Listed integrations include Strava, Eventbrite, ACTIVE Works, Blackbaud products, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Salesforce-related options, which may suit charities already using those services.

JustGiving says its fundraising pages have Tier 1 PCI compliance and SSL; its campaign page also describes fraud protection and a regulated payment gateway. Giving Checkout identifies JustGiving as an FCA-regulated Approved Payment Institution. Checkout offers 24/7 assistance to anyone on the charity team, while Start includes online and email support.

Pricing

JustGiving uses a freemium model. Start is free, with no monthly subscription fee, and is aimed at charities new to the service. It includes fundraising and campaign pages, Giving Checkout reports, donation widgets, Strava integration, and online and email support. The trade-off is that standard payment processing fees and a 5% Gift Aid reclaim fee apply.

Grow costs £15/month (+vat) if the charity raises up to £15,000 per year including Gift Aid, and £39/month (+vat) above that annual fundraising threshold. There is no annual commitment. Grow includes standard payment processing fees, an optional 5% Gift Aid reclaim fee, reporting and supporter se—so charities should confirm the remaining plan scope before choosing it. Its monthly charge may make sense for teams needing paid-plan capabilities, but Start is the lower-cost entry point for charities whose needs fit its included tools.

Standard payment processing is 1.9% + £0.30, or 2.90% + £0.30 for donations in another currency; fee-free Giving Checkout donations are the exception. Recurring donations are supported, and donors can pay by cards and wallets. The fee structure is material: charities should account for processing and Gift Aid charges alongside any subscription when estimating net proceeds.

Platforms

JustGiving supports Android, iOS, web and API access. Registered charities and nonprofits in the UK, United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand can join.

Who it's for

JustGiving is best for eligible charities that want individual supporters to fundraise while staff run branded campaigns, accept direct donations and export reporting data. It is less compelling for a charity whose giving mostly arrives through routes that incur standard processing fees, or whose saved-report needs exceed the eight-template limit.

Pros and cons

Pros: Supporter pages and campaign hubs work together, covering both individual fundraising and organised appeals.
Pros: Giving Checkout removes processing and platform fees on direct donations, with customisable forms.
Pros: Reporting exports and integrations with fundraising, event and CRM products can support existing workflows.
Cons: Standard processing fees apply outside fee-free Checkout donations, and UK Gift Aid processing carries a 5% charge.
Cons: Reporting saves up to eight templates, which can be restrictive for teams with many recurring report formats.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, browse Nonprofit Crowdfunding Software.

FundRazr is worth considering for a free fundraising platform with no platform fee under its Optional Tips plan, although payment processing is 2.9% + $0.30 and 95% of donors cover fees. WhyDonate may suit teams seeking a free service with no sign-up or monthly cost; payment processing applies, and recurring donations incur a 3% platform fee from the second payment.

GoFundMe Pro is another freemium option for nonprofits with annual revenue under $1 million, offering an Essentials plan with zero subscription fees and no setup costs. White Label Crowdfunding is a paid alternative for organisations seeking a donation platform with up to 1,000 users, at $1,312.00 USD per month plus 2%.

AdoptAClassroom.org is aimed at eligible U.S. educators, with donations provided as online credit for marketplace or Teacher Choice purchases. DonorsChoose is another free option for teachers posting classroom projects, which must request at least $100 and may remain posted for up to four months.

Fundiful may fit teams wanting private-label crowdfunding with no startup cost, monthly fee or Fundiful percentage fee; card processor fees may still apply. Ketto offers a free Bronze plan with automated story creation and Android and iOS apps, though a 3% payment gateway fee applies, along with 18% GST on its success fee and payment gateway fee.

Verdict

Choose JustGiving if your charity needs supporter fundraising alongside campaign hubs and direct donation forms, especially if you can make use of fee-free Giving Checkout donations. Look elsewhere if standard processing and Gift Aid charges would erode the value of your donation mix, or if your team needs more than eight saved report templates.
