Overview

Shiksha is a higher-education discovery service for students exploring colleges, courses and exams in India and abroad. It is best suited to applicants assembling and comparing a broad shortlist. Its range of search and exam tools is useful, but the stated sharing of contact information with colleges is a meaningful privacy trade-off.

Available on the web, Android and iOS, the service brings college information and student tools into one place. Its profiles cover admissions, eligibility, fees, placements, rankings, reviews and scholarships. Shiksha says it aggregates information from official college, exam-body and ranking-body websites, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by a government organization.

Shiksha.com belongs to Info Edge (India) Ltd., launched in 2008 and headquartered in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. Shiksha describes more than 60,000 institutions and 375,000 courses on its site; its website-and-app catalog figures are 50,000+ institutions, 400,000+ courses and 800+ exams. The counts differ, but point to a broad directory rather than a narrowly focused admissions tool.

Key features

College search and comparison

College and course discovery is the service’s central strength. Profiles bring together decision points such as fees, admission criteria, accepted exams, placements, rankings and scholarships, while side-by-side comparison helps students weigh alternatives without relying on a single metric. Reviews and MyShortlist support the process of narrowing options. The breadth is useful for early research, though students should still confirm admission requirements and costs with institutions before making decisions.

Exam resources and predictors

Shiksha offers information on 800+ exams, and its app listing describes question papers, syllabi and important dates for 600+ exams. That makes it a practical companion for students tracking exams alongside college research. Its college and rank predictors use exam scores and historical cutoff trends to estimate possible options or ranks; treat those estimates as a starting point, not a guarantee of admission.

Counselling and employment context

Shiksha Assistant counselling recommends colleges using exam scores, budget, location, profile and preferences. This can help students turn a broad search into a more focused set of options. Alumni Employment Statistics includes salary data powered by Naukri.com, adding employment context to college research without making that data a substitute for checking course-specific outcomes.

Mobile experience and support

The apps provide search, comparisons, student reviews, exam information, alerts and personalized recommendations. Android disclosures say the app may share app activity and collect location; they also say data is encrypted in transit and users can request deletion. Shiksha describes physical, electronic and procedural safeguards and says it seeks compliance with India's Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules. Its privacy policy allows users to request access, correction, erasure, restricted processing, data portability or withdrawal of consent. It also says it may share contact information with colleges or educational institutions when a user expresses interest or is shortlisted as a potential admission candidate. The platform uses YouTube API services and may track video play, pause and mute actions. These practices deserve consideration before submitting interest details. Shiksha says its experts aim to answer questions within 24 hours; Android app support is available at appfeedback@shiksha.com.

Pricing

Shiksha is freemium, with a free plan listed at 0.00 USD per free. The free app listing establishes a no-cost entry point for students using its discovery and research service. There is no stated paid-plan price or feature limit to compare, so the practical choice is whether its free tools and privacy terms suit your research needs.

Platforms

Shiksha is available on web, Android and iOS, giving students access to college and course search both in a browser and on mobile. The app’s alerts and exam resources suit ongoing research, while side-by-side comparisons support shortlist building across devices.

Who it's for

Shiksha fits students researching Indian and international higher education who want college profiles, exam preparation resources, comparison tools and admissions estimates in one service. It is especially useful early in the decision process, when applicants are comparing fees, eligibility and likely options. Students who are uncomfortable with contact sharing tied to expressed interest or shortlisting should review the privacy choices carefully or consider a more limited search workflow.

Pros and cons

Pros: College profiles combine admissions, fees, placements, rankings, reviews and scholarships, helping applicants compare practical factors in one place.
Pros: Exam resources, cutoff-based predictors and counselling connect exam preparation with college discovery.
Pros: Web and mobile access, plus comparison tools and MyShortlist, support research across devices.
Cons: Contact information may be shared with colleges when users express interest or are shortlisted, a significant consideration for privacy-conscious applicants.
Cons: Predictor outputs are estimates based on scores and historical cutoff trends, so they cannot establish admission certainty.

Alternatives

Verdict

Shiksha is a strong fit for students who want a broad college and exam research hub, especially when side-by-side comparisons, predictors and counselling can help shape an initial shortlist. Its main reason to look elsewhere is the possibility of contact details being shared with colleges after expressing interest or being shortlisted. Choose it for breadth and connected admissions tools; choose another route if that data-sharing trade-off outweighs the convenience.
