Overview

EmuSync is a save-sync utility for emulator and non-Steam games, connecting configured save locations to cloud or local storage. It suits players who move between devices or want another copy of their saves. Its strongest case is flexible, free syncing; Mac and mobile users should look elsewhere.

Key features

EmuSync works with Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or a local or shared folder. Players can configure save locations, let the app detect saves, and choose automatic or manual syncing. That choice of storage and sync cadence suits varied setups, though restore remains a manual step rather than part of an automatic recovery workflow.

Local backup and restore, version history, and automatic backup provide recovery options alongside cloud synchronization. Steam Deck users can check sync status through the Decky plugin without switching to desktop mode. The Linux installation guidance covers Steam Deck, making the plugin a useful fit for that platform.

The local HTTP API supports scripts and third-party automation. It requires no authentication and is documented as accessible only on the device, not over the network, so it fits local integrations but not remote control. The privacy policy says personal information is not collected, stored, or transmitted, and app data remains locally or in the chosen cloud provider.

Pricing

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free	0.00 USD per free	Automatic backup, cloud synchronization, version history, and game detection, with manual restore and multi-platform support. No subscription or paywall.

There is no paid tier or free trial to weigh against the free plan. The absence of a subscription keeps the cost straightforward; users still need a supported storage provider or folder that fits their setup.

Platforms

EmuSync supports Linux and Windows, with an API for local automation. Windows 10 and Windows 11 x64 PCs are confirmed working devices; Linux instructions cover Steam Deck, and the project says it should work on modern Linux devices. The Windows installer is not code signed, so SmartScreen may flag it as a risk. The maker cannot currently build and test on Mac and has no plans for Android or iOS, ruling it out for those devices.

Who it's for

EmuSync is a good fit for emulator and non-Steam players who use multiple devices, want an extra save backup, or prefer to choose between cloud providers and local storage. Its manual sync option and device-only API also suit users who want control over when saves move and who automate on the same machine. Players who need Mac or mobile support should choose another tool.

Pros and cons

Pro: Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and local or shared folders give users several storage choices.
Pro: Automatic and manual syncing, plus local backup, version history, and restore, offer more than one route to protect saves.
Pro: A local, unauthenticated HTTP API supports on-device scripts without requiring a network-facing integration.
Con: Restore is manual, so users seeking automatic recovery still need to intervene.
Con: There is no Mac, Android, or iOS support, limiting mixed-platform households.
Con: The unsigned Windows installer may trigger SmartScreen warnings.

Alternatives

Browse Game Save Managers for more options. Ludusavi is another free choice and adds Mac support alongside Windows and Linux, with a portable executable. Choose it if Mac compatibility matters.

OpenSave is free and open source, with no subscription, pro tier, ads, or telemetry; its platform coverage includes Mac and self-hosting. It is a better fit if those qualities matter more than EmuSync's stated storage-provider choices. GSBS is another free option, with Mac, self-hosted, and web platforms.

Checkpoint64 offers a free tier with 20 MiB per space, one team, access to three friends' teams, and three read-only fans; its Pro plan costs 5.00 EUR per month, billed monthly and cancellable anytime. Consider it if that team-oriented structure fits your use better than EmuSync's free, no-subscription setup.

Game Backup Monitor is free and open source, supports unlimited games and 7-Zip compression, and can use cloud storage through a provider and sync client. It suits users who prioritize those backup options and are comfortable configuring the cloud connection. Game Save Genie is free, requires no subscription, and uses your own cloud storage.

Game Save Manager offers a free Windows 64-bit installer under GPL-3.0, with an optional support download. It is a Windows-only alternative for users who prefer that distribution. Gamekeeper has a free tier that limits Multi-Space to three per game and supports local, FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, SMB/CIFS, and S3 storage; its Pro plan has custom pricing. Choose it if those storage protocols suit your setup.

Verdict

Choose EmuSync if you play emulator or non-Steam games across Linux or Windows devices and want free save syncing with a choice of cloud or local storage. Its combination of flexible sync and local recovery is the draw. Look elsewhere if you need Mac or mobile support, or want restore to happen without a manual step.
