Overview

Pathwright is course-authoring software for educators and organizations building structured learning programs. It is a strong fit when one course must serve multiple cohorts with different schedules or teaching arrangements, but less compelling for teams that need version control for course changes.

Key features

Sequenced courses with varied activities

Creators arrange ordered Steps in a drag-and-drop designer, then add interactive Blocks to each Step. Pathwright says it offers more than 30 Block types, including video, quizzes, reflections, checklists, flashcards, project uploads, and surveys. This combination is useful for programs that need learners to move through a deliberate sequence and do more than watch or read; it gives course design a clear structure without limiting every lesson to the same format.

Cohorts and learner support

Cohorts can have their own teachers, schedules, discussions, pricing, and custom Steps. That flexibility helps when different groups need a shared course framework but not an identical delivery plan. Cohort scheduling, live sessions, community spaces, assignment workflows, and progress tracking support ongoing programs, while the Mentor feature provides a route for personal learner guidance.

Integrations, payments, and safeguards

Pathwright connects with Stripe for learner payments and says it takes no fee from course sales. Its Help Center includes connection guidance for Stripe, Zapier, Intercom, SSO, and its GraphQL API, making it relevant to teams that need payment processing or connections to existing systems. Pathwright says accounts use SSL and receive daily backups, and that it does not sell or share learners’ contact information with other organizations. It states that it complies with PCI/DSS and GDPR, with data processing agreements available on request. Its stated goal is full ADA/WCAG compliance, which it is still working toward. One notable content-management limitation is the lack of version control for overwritten content: backups do not provide a stated way to restore a particular edit.

Pricing

Pathwright offers free course building indefinitely, alongside a 30-day risk-free trial on a paid plan. The free option is a way to begin creating courses, but the paid tiers define member, staff, and cohort capacity. All four listed plans cap membership at 1,000, so organizations expecting to exceed that limit should look elsewhere.

Starter: $99/mo, or $89/mo when billed annually. It allows up to 1,000 members, 1 administrator, and 1 Cohort per course. This is the least expensive paid tier for a course operation that can run with one administrator and one cohort per course.
Essentials: $199/mo, or $179/mo when billed annually. It allows up to 1,000 members, 5 staff, and up to 3 Cohorts per course. Pathwright describes this plan as suited to small and mid-sized organizations or individual teachers looking to grow; it offers room for a larger teaching team and more parallel cohorts than Starter.
Complete: $499/mo, or $449/mo when billed annually. It allows up to 1,000 members, 20 staff, and unlimited Cohorts per course. It fits organizations that need many cohorts and a larger staff allowance.
Enterprise: $1,499/mo, or $1,349/mo when billed annually. It allows up to 1,000 members, 50 staff, and unlimited Cohorts per course. Priority email support and live demos make this the tier for teams that need those support options as well as broader staffing capacity.

The annual-billing prices lower the monthly rate, while the monthly prices offer a higher-rate alternative. The free-building option does not come with a stated member, staff, or cohort allowance, so the listed paid-plan caps are the clearest basis for judging operational capacity.

Platforms

Pathwright is available on web, Android, and iOS, and includes an API. That mix suits teams whose learners use mobile devices as well as organizations that need an integration surface.

Who it's for

Pathwright is best suited to teachers and organizations delivering guided courses in cohorts, especially when groups need distinct schedules, instructors, or course steps. Its ordered learning paths and broad activity types also suit programs that mix instruction with practice and learner responses. It is a weaker fit for teams that need to exceed 1,000 members per plan or rely on version control to manage overwritten course content.

Pros and cons

Pros: Ordered Steps and more than 30 interactive Block types support varied, structured course design.
Pros: Cohorts can differ in teachers, schedules, discussions, pricing, and custom Steps, useful for running distinct groups from a common course.
Pros: Stripe payments carry no Pathwright fee on course sales, and the platform provides an API plus integration guidance for several services.
Cons: Every listed paid plan is capped at 1,000 members, which constrains larger deployments.
Cons: Staff and cohort limits are restrictive on the cheaper tiers, so growing teams may need to move to a more expensive plan.
Cons: Overwritten content has no version control, a meaningful risk for teams that need to track or recover edits.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Cohort-Based Course Platforms, Course Authoring Software, Online course platforms, and Learning Management Systems.

UjuziPlus is a freemium alternative with Android, iOS, web, API, and self-hosted platforms; its free Creator plan includes a course builder with quizzes, marketplace selling, and basic learner reporting.
Cohorta offers a free plan with one product, up to 50 learners, and a 10% sales commission, or a 299 zł/month Starter plan with a 5% commission. Consider it when those free or commission-based terms fit better than Pathwright’s paid tiers.
Sublime LMS has a free sandbox limited to 50 active learners, 2 published courses, 1 admin or instructor, 100 emails per month, and limited video and storage. It is worth considering for a small-scale sandbox before taking on a larger paid commitment.
NovoEd is a paid talent development platform with custom pricing and a demo-based sales process.
Academy Launcher is a paid platform with a free trial and no free plan.
Teachfloor has a paid Startup plan at $89/month with 50 user seats, unlimited courses, 10 GB file storage, and a 5 MB attached-file limit. It may suit a smaller-seat operation seeking unlimited courses at that price point.
Learnify is a freemium platform for Android, iOS, and web.
Maven is a free web platform.

Verdict

Choose Pathwright if your team needs structured courses that can be adapted across cohorts, with varied interactive activities and built-in learner support. Its main advantage is the combination of ordered learning paths and flexible cohort delivery; the main reasons to look elsewhere are the 1,000-member cap across paid tiers and the absence of version control for overwritten content.
