Overview

Fedena is a web-based school management system for academic and administrative operations. It is best suited to institutions that want a wide range of school workflows in one product and need a choice of hosted or self-hosted deployment. Its broad module catalogue is a strength, but the right paid tier depends on which modules an institution actually needs.

For schools, colleges, universities and coaching centres, Fedena combines admissions, fees, payroll, examinations, gradebooks, attendance, assignments, transport, libraries, courses and communication. The company reports serving more than 40,000 schools and colleges across more than 200 countries, with 20 languages. It was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. Institutions comparing School Management Software, Student Information Systems and Course Registration Software should weigh that breadth against the module and hosting choices involved.

Key features

Fedena covers both student-facing academic records and back-office work: admissions and enrollment, fee management, payroll, exams, gradebooks, attendance, assignments, transport and library operations. A parent portal and communication capabilities extend the system beyond staff administration. For institutions trying to consolidate these workflows, the range is a meaningful advantage; teams looking for a narrowly focused tool may find the breadth unnecessary.

The system is entirely web-based, so it requires no software installation. Branded iOS and Android apps serve parents, teachers and students, giving those groups mobile access alongside the web product. Fedena offers up to 20 integrations, including biometric, location, payment gateway and online-class integrations; named options include Tally, Google SSO, Azure, Paybooks, QuickBooks, Google Meet and BigBlueButton. Its API can let external applications read or enter Fedena data, including connections to attendance hardware, which makes it more relevant to institutions integrating school operations with existing systems.

Schools can use Fedena as SaaS hosted on Foradian servers or host it on their own server. That choice gives institutions a deployment option beyond vendor hosting, though self-hosting means the institution must choose and manage that arrangement. Fedena says data remains fully encrypted while stored in its system. Support includes 24/7 customer service, online and on-site support, and on-demand or webinar-based training.

Pricing

Fedena has a free basic version, with free open-source code. Paid plans start at 999.00 USD per year, billed yearly, and a 14-day trial is available. All three priced tiers include unlimited users, one-to-one online training, automatic updates, email and phone support, and onboarding data and configuration; their main distinction is how many module groups they include.

Standard — 999.00 USD per year: 20 Core Modules and 17 Standard Modules. It is the entry paid option for institutions whose required workflows fit those groups; it does not include the listed Premium or Ultimate modules.
Premium — 1399.00 USD per year: adds 10 Premium Modules to the Standard module set. It suits institutions that need those additional capabilities without the Ultimate modules.
Ultimate — 1699.00 USD per year: includes 20 Core, 17 Standard, 10 Premium and 12 Ultimate Modules. It is the broadest priced package, for institutions whose operations span the full listed module range.
Enterprise — custom pricing: includes the same module counts as Ultimate, plus product source code. The source code is the key reason to consider it over Ultimate; the price is custom.

Unlimited users are included across these paid tiers, so the published plan distinction is module access rather than a user-seat cap. Institutions should map their required workflows to the module groups before choosing, since the cheaper tiers leave out later module categories.

Platforms

Fedena supports web, Android, iOS, API access and self-hosted deployment. Its web delivery avoids local software installation, while mobile apps cover the major school communities. The API and self-hosting options are useful for institutions that need to connect Fedena to external systems or operate it on their own server.

Who it's for

Fedena is a strong fit for schools and larger education institutions that want admissions, fees, academic records and operational workflows under one system, with mobile apps for parents, teachers and students. Its unlimited-user paid plans and hosting choice also suit institutions that need room to accommodate broad participation or prefer to host on their own infrastructure. It is less compelling for buyers seeking a focused point solution or unable to identify which module tier covers their needs.

Pros and cons

Broad school operations coverage: admissions, fees, payroll, exams, attendance, transport and other workflows sit within one system.
Flexible deployment and connectivity: SaaS and self-hosted options, an API and up to 20 integrations support different institutional setups.
Unlimited users on paid plans: pricing tiers are differentiated by module access rather than a stated user cap.
Module tiers require careful selection: Standard omits Premium and Ultimate modules, so institutions must verify workflow fit before committing.
Self-hosting is an operational choice: it gives control over where the system runs but requires the customer to use its own server.

Alternatives

Consider Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT if you want a paid web and API platform with custom organizational pricing, where implementation, training and ongoing support may be included.

Klasstra is another paid option, with a free trial and a Starter plan priced at 9999.00 INR per year; its stated Starter limits include up to 300 students, 15 teachers, 5 admin users, one campus and 5 GB storage. Choose it when those explicit capacity limits suit your institution better than Fedena’s module-tier approach.

Classter uses custom pricing based on institution size, type and selected features or modules, making it an option for buyers who want pricing shaped around those factors.

Edsby is a K-12 digital learning platform starting at 5.00 USD per year per student, with annual pricing varying by student count. It is the more focused alternative when K-12 digital learning is the priority rather than Fedena’s wider administrative scope.

CircleUp offers a free plan for up to 10 families, with event management, class registration and a 0.5% CircleUp LLC fee for Stripe payments. It may suit small programs focused on family and event workflows rather than full school operations.

feKara has a free plan and a Monthly Unlimited plan at 39.50 USD per month for 600 students and unlimited teachers, with basic and advanced modules. Consider it if that student-based plan structure better matches your scale.

OpenEMIS Admissions is free open-source software with no licensing fees, while Gibbon is a free web-based option.

Verdict

Choose Fedena if your school or education institution needs broad academic and administrative coverage, unlimited users on paid tiers, and the choice of vendor-hosted or self-hosted deployment. Its principal advantage is consolidating many school workflows in one system; its principal reason to look elsewhere is the need to match requirements carefully to tier-specific modules. Start with the free version or 14-day trial, then select a paid plan only after confirming the included module groups fit your operations.
