Overview

FireShot captures an entire web page, the visible area, or a selected region, then lets users annotate the result. Scrolling capture and OCR text extraction support longer pages and text-focused review. The ability to save searchable PDFs with direct links is useful when a screenshot needs to remain navigable or searchable rather than becoming a flat image.

Captures are created locally and can work offline, avoiding a cloud dependency for capture itself. The privacy policy also says the service may collect personal and usage data, including IP address, browser and operating system details, and diagnostics; it is dated October 10, 2019. Local processing is a practical advantage, but it should not be read as a claim that the product collects no data.

Key features

Capture, edit, and export

The built-in editor handles resizing, cropping, highlighting, blurring, erasing, and text annotations. That range is useful for preparing evidence or instructions without switching tools, though the Pro plan’s editor and smart annotations are specified for Windows. Exports include PDF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, and BMP. PDF export preserves searchable text and direct links; image formats offer simpler options for sharing or embedding.

Automation and integration

Pro can capture all open tabs or process a supplied URL list, which is more useful for repeated documentation or review than taking pages one at a time. FireShot describes exports to Microsoft OneNote and other programs, as well as FTP and custom uploads. A JavaScript API can embed capture actions in a website, but must first be enabled in the options. That makes FireShot relevant to developers integrating capture into a site, without implying a broader hosted API service.

Pricing

FireShot uses a freemium model, with a 10-day trial noted for paid access. FireShot Lite is a free starting point for users who only need webpage capture. Its main practical restriction is history: Lite retains access to only the previous week, so it is a poor fit for people who need an enduring screenshot archive.

Pro Yearly costs 39.95 USD per year, billed annually. It includes unlimited screenshots, advanced PDF export, capture history, batch and automated captures, on-device processing, and the editor and smart annotations on Windows. This is the clearest fit for regular individual capture workflows that benefit from saved history or automation.

Pro Lifetime License is described at 99.95 USD per once, billed $99.95 one-time. It includes all Pro features, future updates, and unlimited usage on two devices. That is a different commitment from the yearly subscription and may suit someone who wants a one-time license for two devices.

The pricing information also gives a conflicting Pro Lifetime License entry at 99.95 USD per month. Because that term conflicts with the one-time lifetime entry, confirm the purchase terms before choosing it. Licensed customers can use the Premium Support forum; a Public Support forum is also available.

Platforms

FireShot is available as an extension and is identified for Linux, macOS, and Windows; an API is also listed. Pro’s editor and smart annotations are specifically associated with Windows, so buyers on other desktop platforms should not assume the same editing scope. The product describes on-device processing and offline capture, while also indicating cloud sharing; these capabilities serve different workflows, and the local-capture claim does not establish that sharing is local.

Who it's for

FireShot is a sensible choice for documentation, QA, support, training, blogging, design, marketing, research, and development work where a full page, selected region, or annotated image needs to be retained or exported. Its searchable PDFs and URL-list capture are particularly useful when pages need to be revisited or processed in batches. It is less compelling for users who need long-term history without paying, depend on a Windows-style editor on another platform, or want a clearly defined shared cloud workflow.

Pros and cons

Pro: Full-page and scrolling capture, region selection, annotation, OCR, and searchable PDF export cover several documentation needs in one workflow.
Pro: Local, offline capture avoids cloud dependency for creating screenshots.
Pro: Pro batch capture accepts open tabs or a URL list, reducing repetitive work across many pages.
Con: Lite’s one-week history cap makes it unsuitable as a durable archive.
Con: The Pro editor and smart annotations are specified for Windows, limiting confidence for users on other platforms.
Con: The lifetime license is presented with both monthly and one-time billing terms, so the price basis needs confirmation.

Alternatives

For broader category browsing, see Screen Capture Software, Screenshot Software, and Screenshot Annotation Software.

ShareX is the better fit for Windows users who prioritize a free, open-source option and do not need FireShot’s paid Pro plan.
Greenshot is worth considering for Windows users who want free screenshot annotation and editing with export to files, clipboard, printer, or email.
CleanShot X is a paid alternative for readers seeking a Mac app with cloud storage; its listed Basic plan includes one year of updates and 1 GB of cloud storage.
Gyazo is a broader-platform freemium option when short video or replay recordings and a latest-images workflow matter.
Markup Hero may suit users who want annotation, sharing, and export in a free plan capped at 25 screenshots and history.
Microsoft Edge is a free browser option for readers who want a no-cost choice across desktop and mobile platforms.
Monosnap is another freemium option for users whose needs include storage and video recording alongside capture.
Screenpresso is a Windows-oriented alternative with image capture and HD video capture in its free plan, though video and sharing carry branding.

Verdict

Choose FireShot if your work depends on capturing full web pages, annotating them, and exporting searchable PDFs, especially when Pro’s batch capture and full history will save repeated effort. Lite is useful for occasional captures but its one-week history is a real ceiling. Look elsewhere if you need a dependable long-term free archive, a clearly consistent lifetime price, or editing capabilities confirmed across platforms beyond Windows.
