Overview

Formbricks is an open-source feedback platform for collecting surveys on websites, in apps, and by email. It is best suited to teams that need configurable surveys, respondent segmentation, or a choice between cloud and self-hosting. Its breadth is appealing, but cloud response caps and the work of maintaining a self-hosted installation make fit depend on volume and operational capacity.

It supports both types of NPS surveys as well as broader survey use. For category comparisons, see Net Promoter Score Software, Survey API Software, and Survey Software.

Key features

Survey design and segmentation

Hobby supports link-based and in-product surveys, all question types, conditional logic, hidden fields, partial responses, file uploads, and single-use links. That is a substantial toolkit for teams that need surveys to adapt to answers or want to control link reuse. Pro adds respondent identification, contact and segment management, and attribute-based segmentation, which makes it a better fit when feedback needs to be organized around respondent characteristics rather than treated as one undifferentiated pool.

Follow-ups and integrations

Pro also adds email follow-ups, custom webhooks, integrations, iOS and Android SDKs, and AI translations. Third-party integrations include Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion, Slack, n8n, Zapier, and ActivePieces. These options give teams several ways to connect survey work to existing tools; the value depends on whether those services match the stack they already operate.

Privacy and deployment

Formbricks offers cloud use and self-hosting through one-click setup, Docker, or Kubernetes. It says data is encrypted in transit with HTTPS/TLS 1.3 and at rest with AES-256, and lists GDPR, CCPA, SOC 2 Type II, and ISO 27001 compliance. It also says it conducts annual independent penetration tests and daily encrypted backups for Formbricks Cloud. Self-hosting provides a deployment path for teams that want more control, but it is not operationally free: the documented v6 baseline runs eight long-running services, and the evaluation setup specifies 2 vCPU, 4 GB memory, and 20 GB SSD for a single server.

Pricing

Formbricks is freemium, with a 14-day trial and paid pricing noted from $74/mo (annual). The listed monthly plan prices differ from that annual starting point, so check the billing term that applies to the subscription you are considering.

Hobby: one workspace and 250 responses per month; no price is stated. Its feature set is useful for small-scale feedback, but the response ceiling may rule it out for teams running several active programs.
Pro: 89.00 USD per month, billed monthly, with three workspaces, 2,000 responses per month, and unlimited seats. It adds segmentation and automation capabilities, making it the most capable listed cloud plan for teams that need those workflows, though the monthly cap still matters for high-volume collection.
Scale: 390.00 USD per month, billed monthly, with five workspaces and 5,000 responses per month. It raises capacity and workspace count over Pro; teams should weigh that increase against the substantial price jump.
Self-Hosting Free: 0.00 USD per free, billed free, with DIY setup and maintenance, community support, moderate customization and control, and most advanced features. The absence of a license charge does not remove server and maintenance responsibilities.
Self-Hosting EE License: custom pricing, fixed per month, with DIY setup and maintenance, prioritized support and updates, all advanced features, and full customization and control. It is aimed at organizations that need those capabilities and can manage their own deployment.

The cloud plans make response volume a central purchasing constraint: Hobby allows 250 responses monthly, Pro 2,000, and Scale 5,000. For self-hosted users, support also differs by license: free users receive community support, while EE license users receive prioritized support and updates.

Platforms

Formbricks lists Android, iOS, web, API, and self-hosted platforms. The iOS and Android SDKs are among Pro’s automation additions, which is relevant to teams planning mobile integrations rather than only web or link-based surveys.

Who it's for

Formbricks suits organizations that gather customer feedback across more than one channel and need survey logic, segmentation, or control over deployment. Its stated use cases span financial services, healthcare, e-commerce, nonprofits, government, market research, and retail. Smaller teams can start with Hobby, but its 250-response cap makes it a limited cloud option; teams that lack capacity to maintain services should favor cloud over self-hosting.

Pros and cons

Pro: Conditional logic, hidden fields, partial responses, uploads, and single-use links give survey builders meaningful control even at the Hobby feature level.
Pro: Cloud and self-hosted deployment let teams choose between managed use and greater control, with Docker and Kubernetes options for self-hosting.
Pro: Pro combines segmentation, follow-ups, webhooks, SDKs, and integrations for teams connecting feedback to broader workflows.
Con: Hobby’s 250 monthly responses constrain ongoing collection, while Pro and Scale impose caps of 2,000 and 5,000.
Con: Self-hosting requires teams to operate eight long-running services under the documented v6 baseline, so the no-license-cost option still demands infrastructure and maintenance.
Con: The listed monthly cloud prices are 89.00 USD for Pro and 390.00 USD for Scale, while the annual starting-price note is $74/mo; buyers need to distinguish the stated billing terms.

Alternatives

Choose Refiner if a 25-response monthly free plan is sufficient and you want a freemium option that lists Android, iOS, API, and web platforms; Formbricks Hobby allows 250 monthly responses and also offers self-hosting.

SatisMeter is another freemium option, with 25 free responses per month and a Growth plan at 199.00 US; its free plan notes roughly 250 active users as a recommendation, not a limit.

Thermostat is worth comparing if its free tier’s one user, one survey, 200 administered surveys per month, and four months of response history fit the job.

Survicate offers a free plan with 25 responses per month, three teammates, and 300 responses across active surveys, making those caps useful points of comparison with Formbricks’ cloud tiers.

nps.today is a paid alternative with a one-month free trial and a listed Basic plan at 1.50 EUR per month.

Wootric is a paid alternative whose Professional plan covers one journey point, one metric, up to five seats, and self-service support.

CustomerGauge is a paid option with unlimited surveys, users, and integrations under a flat platform fee priced by account base and activated modules.

Nicereply is a paid alternative with a Starter plan at 59.00 USD per month billed annually for 100 responses per month and three users.

Verdict

Formbricks is a strong fit for teams that want adaptable surveys, respondent segmentation, and the option to self-host, especially when its channels and integrations match an existing stack. Its main advantage is deployment choice paired with a deep survey toolkit; its main drawback is the combination of cloud response ceilings and meaningful self-hosting work. Choose it when those trade-offs suit your volume and team capacity, and look elsewhere if you need higher cloud response limits at a lower listed monthly price or cannot take on infrastructure operations.
