Overview

CommunitySuite brings fund accounting, CRM, donor portals, endowment and fee management, events, and online donations together. That scope can reduce the need to stitch core foundation workflows across separate systems. The trade-off is that organizations seeking only grant application processing or general-purpose finance software may be paying for a broader operating model than they need.

Key features

Accounting and constituent records

It tracks endowed and non-endowed funds, pooled investment earnings, administrative fees, and spending policies. That combination is useful for foundations that need fund-level financial administration alongside grantmaking. CRM profiles bring donors, advisors, grantees, and vendors into a shared record with interactions attached, giving staff a consolidated relationship view rather than disconnected contact histories.

Portals and grantmaking

Donors can make recurring gifts and print tax receipts; fund advisors can review balances and statements and submit grant recommendations through self-service portals. These capabilities shift routine account access away from staff, while keeping advisors involved in fund decisions. CommunitySuite processes grants and scholarships natively, or can connect with Foundant’s Grant Lifecycle Manager and Scholarship Lifecycle Manager for award payment and fund accounting.

Scoring and rubrics, reviewer collaboration, applicant portals, and workflow automation support structured grant programs. Reporting includes filtered financial reports, real-time spendable balances, batch fund statements, and analytics on performance and trends. That is a useful mix for organizations that need operational visibility as well as applicant and reviewer workflows.

Integrations, security, and support

Named integrations include Microsoft Outlook, Power BI, Candid, Stripe, Mailchimp, Google Looker Studio, AlphaVantage, Salesforce, and Constant Contact. An open API provides a path for custom connections, an important advantage for teams fitting the platform into an existing stack. Foundant says it uses NIST Cybersecurity Framework controls, multi-factor authentication, role-based access, HTTPS encryption, and daily production backups; it also lists a SOC 2 Type II report and Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus certifications. Support includes unlimited support, a dedicated team, and the Compass peer community.

Pricing

CommunitySuite is paid software with custom pricing. Foundant asks prospective customers to submit a form so it can discuss pricing based on organizational needs. No public seat count, usage quota, trial length, or renewal term is stated, so teams should establish those terms during the sales discussion before comparing total cost.

Platforms

CommunitySuite is cloud-deployed and supports web access and an API. That combination suits organizations needing browser-based operations and integration options, though it does not establish support for native desktop or mobile apps.

Who it's for

Community foundations are the clearest fit, with college and education foundations, family foundations, and faith-based community foundations also identified as users. It makes particular sense where fund accounting, donor and advisor services, and grant or scholarship processing need to work together. Organizations with simpler accounting needs or a narrow application-management requirement should compare more focused products before committing to a foundation-wide platform.

Pros and cons

Pros: Fund accounting, CRM, portals, and grant and scholarship processing share one platform, supporting connected foundation workflows.
Pros: The open API and named integrations give teams options for fitting CommunitySuite into an established software stack.
Pros: Real-time spendable balances, batch statements, and financial analytics support both daily fund administration and oversight.
Cons: Pricing requires a sales conversation, making early budget comparisons harder.
Cons: Its broad foundation focus may be excessive for teams that need only grant management or basic fund accounting.

Alternatives

For a narrower or different operating fit, compare Grant Management Software, Scholarship Management Software, Application Management Software, and Fund Accounting Software.

Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is another paid web and API platform with custom-quote pricing; choose it for an organization evaluating a finance-focused alternative.
OmniStar Grants uses subscription pricing based on internal users, making it worth comparing when user-count-based grant software pricing is a priority.
Bonterra Penelope is a paid platform with web, API, Android, and iOS support; consider it if mobile platform coverage is a deciding factor.
Optimy lists a Start plan from 650.00 EUR per month, with end-to-end program management, industry data and templates, and a dedicated account manager; compare it if a published starting price matters.
GivingData offers a quote-based Go plan for lean foundations with payments, grants, grantee portal, reporting, document management, and help desk; it is a relevant comparison for lean teams seeking those core functions.
Submittable offers a quote-based Enterprise plan with funds distribution, custom branding and integrations, project management, professional services, and premium support; compare it if those enterprise services are central to the decision.
SmartSimple Cloud for Grants Management uses a one-time implementation fee plus recurring subscription fees, with pricing proposals based on organizational needs; consider it when evaluating another tailored-cost grants platform.
Euna Budget is another option for teams comparing budget software.

Verdict

Choose CommunitySuite if you are a foundation that needs fund accounting, constituent management, donor and advisor self-service, and grant workflows in a connected cloud platform. Its strongest case is the breadth of foundation-specific operations paired with an open API and established integrations. Look elsewhere if you need only a narrow grant or accounting tool, or if you require public pricing before engaging a vendor.
