Overview

Frame.io brings creative media, review, and workflow coordination into one workspace, with tools for both camera-based production and post-production teams. Its strongest fit is a team that wants feedback tied to media, outside-client review without guest accounts, and connections to editing and automation tools. The main trade-offs are tight member caps on lower plans and storage allowances that teams should weigh against their project volume.

Key features

Review and collaboration

Time-coded comments, approval workflows, and version comparison keep review cycles anchored to the media itself. Share links let external clients view and comment without creating or signing into an account, reducing friction for occasional reviewers. Pro adds custom-branded and passphrase-protected shares; Team adds restricted projects and folders plus internal comments.

Capture and desktop access

Camera to Cloud automatically uploads, organizes, and distributes RAW or proxy files from cameras after each take or snapshot. That is particularly useful for production teams that need footage to reach collaborators quickly; teams whose work starts with files already transferred may have less reason to prioritize it. The free Frame.io Drive app for Mac and Windows supports uploads, downloads, and mounting projects to the desktop.

Integrations, API, and security

Integrations include Adobe Premiere Pro, Lightroom, After Effects, LumaFusion, Final Cut Pro-related workflows, Zapier, Make, Adobe Workfront Fusion, and Camera to Cloud hardware and apps. A public API, webhooks for events such as uploads or status changes, custom Actions, and no-code or low-code connectors give teams routes to connect Frame.io with their stack and automate workflow steps.

Frame.io states that uploaded media uses Amazon S3 server-side AES-256 encryption, with interactions protected by SSL/HTTPS and Transport Layer Security. Its stated credentials include TPN Gold Shield accreditation, SOC 2 Type 2, and inclusion in Adobe's ISO 27001:22 certification. Enterprise adds real-time watermarking, passphrase- and domain-restricted sharing, and single sign-on with user provisioning through the Adobe Admin Console.

Creative Cloud inclusion

Creative Cloud All Apps, Premiere, and After Effects include Frame.io with 100GB of storage, five projects at a time, two users, and unlimited reviewers. This bundled allowance is distinct from the standalone Free plan, so teams should compare the included capacity with the account they already receive.

Pricing

Frame.io has a freemium model, a free plan, and a free trial. The paid plans are billed per member per month plus tax; the listed monthly amounts are per member, so the member limits matter as much as the storage totals.

Free — 0.00 USD per free. Up to 2 members, 2GB storage, 2GB Mounted Storage, up to 2 projects, Camera to Cloud, transcription, and captions. It gives a small team a way to start, but the storage and project caps make it a limited home for ongoing work.
Pro — 15.00 USD per month. Billed per member per month + tax; up to 5 members, 2TB included plus 2TB per additional member, 250GB Mounted Storage, unlimited projects, custom-branded shares, and passphrase-protected shares. It suits a small production team that needs more room and polished external sharing, but the five-member ceiling can force a plan change as the team grows.
Team — 25.00 USD per month. Billed per member per month + tax; up to 15 members, 3TB included plus 2TB per additional member, 500GB Mounted Storage, restricted projects and folders, and internal comments. This is the more practical tier for larger in-house groups that need access controls and internal discussion, though teams above 15 members are directed to Enterprise.
Enterprise — custom pricing. Custom members and storage, single sign-on, multiple team workspaces, 2TB Mounted Storage, priority in-app support, Storage Connect, and Digital Rights Management. It is the relevant tier for organizations that need larger membership or these administrative and rights-management capabilities.

Frame.io is also included with specified Creative Cloud subscriptions under a separate allowance of two users and five concurrent projects. In-app chat support is available from its worldwide support team, with English-language support at support@frame.io.

Platforms

Frame.io supports API, extension, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows access. The web app supports the latest two versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge; supported operating systems are Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS. The desktop Drive app is available for Mac and Windows.

Who it's for

Frame.io is a strong fit for creative production teams that need a shared media-review process, rapid camera-to-team delivery, and integrations with editing or automation tools. It also works well when clients need to comment without becoming account holders. A two-person team can begin on Free, while teams that need more storage, unlimited projects, or branded shares have a clear step up to Pro. It is less suitable for a team that needs more than 15 members without moving to custom-priced Enterprise.

Pros and cons

Pros: External clients can review and comment through Share links without accounts, easing collaboration beyond the core team.
Pros: Camera to Cloud and a broad set of editing and automation integrations support workflows from capture through review.
Pros: Public API, webhooks, custom Actions, and connectors offer multiple ways to coordinate with a team's existing systems.
Cons: Free is capped at two members, 2GB storage, and two projects, limiting its usefulness for sustained production work.
Cons: Pro and Team cap membership at five and 15, respectively, with larger teams directed to custom-priced Enterprise.
Cons: The Creative Cloud inclusion has its own 100GB, two-user, five-project allowance, which may be restrictive for teams treating it as their main workspace.

Alternatives

For a lighter proofing workflow, Ashore has a free plan with one user, 30 files per month, and 1 GB of storage, making it a more constrained starting point. Pastel is another option, with a free plan for one user and one canvas and a Pro plan at 29.00 USD per month billed at $350/year for two users, three canvases, and 100GB video storage.

Proofrr offers a free plan for three users, 100MB storage, five projects, and three briefs, while QuickReviewer offers a Forever Free plan with 100 MB storage, one team member, unlimited files and proofs, and unlimited free reviewers. ReviewStudio may suit teams looking for a free starting tier with unlimited users and guests, three active reviews total, and 5 GB of storage.

Ziflow is worth considering for a free workflow with unlimited proofs and reviewers, two users, 2GB storage, one workflow stage, and 60 days of review history. MarkUp is a paid alternative with a free trial and a Pro plan for 50 MarkUps per month at 79.00 USD per month, while ftrack Studio is a paid option with a free trial and a Studio plan at 30.00 USD per month billed monthly.

Compare Frame.io with the broader Online Proofing Software, Video Review Software, Video Annotation Software, and Creative Project Management Software categories if your workflow calls for a different balance of review, annotation, or project coordination.

Verdict

Choose Frame.io if your creative team needs media-centered review, camera-to-team delivery, and integration paths into editing and automation workflows. Its account-free client sharing and workflow breadth are the strongest reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if low-cost growth beyond 15 members is central: the next stated step is custom-priced Enterprise.
