Overview

Geektastic is a technical assessment service for teams hiring software engineers, with short multiple-choice screens and longer take-home coding challenges. It is strongest for teams that want expert feedback on submitted code; the cost model is less attractive if you need frequent take-home reviews.

Key features

Express challenges take around 30 minutes, while take-home tasks take around two hours. That gives hiring teams a shorter initial screen and a more substantial coding exercise, but the take-home format demands a meaningful time investment from candidates.

A human review team assesses take-home submissions and provides detailed feedback. Reviews are targeted within 24 hours, though high submission volumes can push turnaround to 48 hours. This adds expert judgment beyond automated scoring, but each review carries a separate charge.

Teams can submit their own challenges for Geektastic to port and review against tailored guidelines. That can make assessments more relevant to a role, with an upfront fee for bespoke or migrated challenges. Supported areas include JavaScript, Java, PHP, Python, C#, Swift, Android, AWS, Terraform, Ansible and CI/CD.

Greenhouse, Lever and Workable integrations support candidate invitations and results in ATS records, at an additional monthly cost. Geektastic says its reviews are anonymous, and that it is GDPR compliant, uses SSL encryption and does not store passwords in plain text. All plans include 24/7 support.

Pricing

The free Express tier costs 0.00 USD per free and covers the first 50 candidates per month with two seats. Additional Express candidates cost 3.00 USD per once, billed per candidate after that monthly allowance. This is a practical starting point for low-volume screening, but teams hiring beyond the cap pay per candidate. Extra Express seats cost 50.00 USD per once; two are included in the free tier.

Take-home pricing combines a platform charge and usage fees. The Take-home Code Challenges platform fee is 350.00 USD per month when using the platform, with two seats included and code reviewers free. Geektastic’s library challenge licence costs 70.00 USD per month per challenge, plus $7 each use. Human take-home reviews cost 95.00 USD per once per review. Extra take-home admin seats cost 50.00 USD per once; code reviewers are free.

Custom work has distinct charges: porting an existing Express challenge costs 65.00 USD per once, while creating a bespoke Express multiple-choice challenge costs 195.00 USD per once. ATS integration costs 130.00 USD per month. These charges make Geektastic’s entry-level screening inexpensive, but teams should model candidate volume, challenge licences, reviews and seats separately before adopting take-home assessments.

Platforms

Geektastic supports web and API access. Its headquarters are in London, UK, and it was acquired by UK-based Deazy at the end of 2023.

Who it's for

Geektastic fits hiring teams that want both quick candidate screens and human-reviewed code exercises, especially when ATS workflows or tailored challenges matter. Developers can also join its global community. Teams seeking only automated scoring, or those unable to budget both a monthly take-home platform fee and per-review charges, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free Express screening includes 50 candidates monthly and two seats, giving smaller teams a defined no-cost starting allowance.
Pros: Human-reviewed take-homes include detailed feedback, with a 24-hour target that clarifies expected review speed.
Pros: Teams can tailor assessments with their own challenges, and Greenhouse, Lever and Workable integrations support ATS-based invitations and results.
Cons: Take-home use has a 350.00 USD per month platform fee, with a further 95.00 USD per review and possible challenge licence charges.
Cons: The two-hour take-home exercise asks substantially more candidate time than the 30-minute Express screen.

CodeSignal is a better fit for individuals seeking free practice, personalized skills paths and a skills profile across web and mobile.

HackerRank may suit teams that want a stated annual screening and interview plan with 2,000-plus questions and 120 attempts per year, rather than paying per Geektastic take-home review.

CoderPad is an option for teams that prefer an annual plan with 60 interviews per year, 400-plus questions and unlimited users.

Coderbyte may suit teams that want monthly invitations with unused invites rolling over and the option to cancel anytime.

CodeScreen is an alternative for teams seeking a monthly plan with 20 candidates, automated grading and library or custom assessments.

Qualified may suit teams that want to start with a 14-day trial capped at five assessment results, or seek a custom plan with data export and SAML SSO.

TestDome is another assessment platform to consider.

Verdict

Choose Geektastic if your hiring process benefits from both fast screening and human-reviewed take-home work, and you can budget for the platform and per-review costs. Its strongest case is detailed feedback from expert reviewers; teams with high take-home volume or a preference for lower-cost automated assessment should compare alternatives.
