Overview

Global Relay Archive captures and preserves enterprise communications in a searchable archive for recordkeeping, eDiscovery, surveillance, and reporting. It is best suited to regulated organizations that need broad capture and retention controls across jurisdictions and business units. Its private infrastructure and compliance-focused workflow are central advantages; custom pricing and an enterprise orientation make it a poor fit for teams seeking a self-serve or low-cost archive.

Key features

Capture spans email, messaging, collaboration, mobile, and voice communications directly from enterprise systems, without depending on employees to submit their own records. The archive preserves each communication as one authoritative record and continuously checks its integrity, a useful foundation for retention and legal review.

Retention schedules can be applied across jurisdictions, entities, and business units, with support for defensible disposition. For legal and compliance teams, eDiscovery combines Boolean search, advanced operators, metadata filters, custodian profiles, archive-wide search, and legal holds. That breadth supports complex investigations, though it is more capability than a small team with straightforward retention needs may require.

AI surveillance analyzes archived communications for risk, with alerts managed through dashboards, reporting, and an audit trail. Voice transcription adds automatic language detection and translation across 140+ languages, which can help multinational organizations review voice records across language boundaries.

Role-based permissions and ring-fenced Compliance, Legal, HR, and IT workspaces provide controls for internal access and privacy. The Open Connector API can bring in data from any source, including proprietary and in-house communication platforms, making it relevant where standard integrations are not enough.

The archive runs on Global Relay private infrastructure rather than a shared public cloud environment. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest; Global Relay says customer data is stored and processed in a Canadian or U.S. data center depending on the organization’s location. It lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 among its security certifications and standards. Dedicated professionals are available 24/7 for support that includes eDiscovery, audits, and data migrations.

Pricing

Global Relay Archive uses custom pricing. Its enterprise-scale plan includes legal hold, eDiscovery tools, and journal capture, but buyers should contact sales for a quote. That makes it difficult to compare costs without a conversation, and the offering is positioned for enterprise-scale recordkeeping rather than a small archive with a simple budget.

Platforms

Global Relay Archive is available through API and web access. It is a cloud deployment hosted on Global Relay private infrastructure, not a shared public cloud environment. The Open Connector API is a practical fit for teams that need to connect proprietary or in-house communication sources.

Who it's for

Financial firms and other regulated organizations are the clearest fit, including asset management, insurance, energy, government, and public companies. Teams responsible for communications retention, legal discovery, surveillance, and audit readiness can draw on the product’s combined capture, search, controls, and support. Organizations that do not need that compliance depth—or that require infrastructure outside Global Relay’s private cloud deployment—should consider a different approach.

Pros and cons

Broad, direct capture: Records come from enterprise systems across email, messaging, collaboration, mobile, and voice, without relying on end users.
Strong governance toolkit: Cross-jurisdiction retention, defensible disposition, legal holds, and advanced eDiscovery support demanding compliance and legal workflows.
Private infrastructure: A dedicated environment, encryption in transit and at rest, and Canadian or U.S. data-center processing address deployment concerns for regulated buyers.
Flexible source connectivity: The Open Connector API can connect proprietary and in-house communication platforms.
Custom pricing and enterprise focus: Buyers must engage sales for pricing, and the enterprise-scale positioning is unlikely to suit teams seeking a lightweight or self-serve option.
Cloud deployment only: Organizations requiring a different deployment model may need to look elsewhere.

Alternatives

Smarsh Archive is another paid option with API and web platforms. For organizations comparing communication archive providers, it is a direct alternative to assess.

Global Relay Event Archiving API is also paid and available through API and web. Choose it when the need is specifically event archiving through an application-enrollment process with credentials per platform or data type, rather than the broader archive plan.

Jatheon Cloud is worth comparing for teams that want Android and iOS access alongside API and web, or that prioritize unlimited storage and no egress fees at exit. Its pricing is per user per month, billed annually, though the price is custom.

Theta Lake Teams Compliance Recorder offers an SMB plan at 15000.00 USD per year on a 12-month contract for up to 999 users, requiring a per-user, per-year content SKU, as well as an enterprise plan at 50000.00 USD per year on a 12-month contract. It is a more concrete-priced alternative for teams that want an SMB or enterprise platform with API and web access.

Archive-It may suit buyers seeking an annual subscription based on data budget and collection needs; it has a free trial and requires a quote. CloudAlly SaaS Backup is another paid, quote-based option, with pricing tailored to storage requirements, user count, and budget.

Verint Financial Compliance is a paid alternative available through API, self-hosted, web, and Windows platforms, with pricing through sales. Social Archiver has a free plan that allows 10 successful archives per month, with duplicate saves not counted again, plus local archive browsing and search.

Verdict

Choose Global Relay Archive if your regulated organization needs enterprise-wide communication capture, defensible retention, eDiscovery, and surveillance on private infrastructure. Its strongest case is the combination of broad source coverage and compliance controls in one archive. Look elsewhere if custom pricing, a cloud-only deployment, or enterprise-scale scope does not fit your team.
