Overview

The build editor brings profession, race, weapons, environment, skills, traits, equipment, effects and combo options together. It can generate a QuickLink for sharing and load builds from chat links, making it useful for exchanging and revisiting setups without rebuilding them from scratch.

Reference material organizes skills and traits by profession, with coverage of races, effects, combo fields and finishers. GW2Skills says it updates its database with current in-game skill balance; the latest listed balance update is dated July 14, 2026. Its conditional trait calculations assume both user and target have 100% health, neither has negative conditions, and only selected temporary effects apply. Treat those calculations as a defined baseline, not a model of every encounter.

Key features

Build planning and sharing: Configure a broad range of character and combat options, then share a QuickLink or load a chat-link build. This is the strongest reason to choose GW2Skills over a static reference: it supports both assembling a setup and passing it along.
Profession-based reference: Skills and traits are grouped by profession, with related material on races, effects, fields and finishers. That organization helps players move between build planning and lookup without needing a general-purpose database.
Multilingual access: The site is available in English, Russian, German and French, extending its usefulness to players who prefer those languages.
Project API: The API provides build QuickLinks, but access is restricted by IP address. A project needs a permanent dedicated IP, and its team should contact GW2Skills first. This is a meaningful constraint for developers building on shared or changing infrastructure. GW2Skills says it uses the official Guild Wars 2 API only for text strings, considering the official data insufficient and sometimes incomplete.

Pricing

GW2Skills is free to use. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes the website and build editor; donations support the project. There is no free trial because the core service is already free, and the site says it runs without advertising while relying substantially on donations.

There are no paid tiers or seat and quota distinctions to weigh. The main compromise is not a cheaper plan with reduced features, but the limits of the service itself: no mobile app, and an API that requires a dedicated permanent IP for project use.

Platforms

GW2Skills is available on the web and provides an API. The FAQ says the team does not plan to create a mobile application, so players seeking a native phone app should choose another tool. The API is for obtaining build QuickLinks and its IP restriction makes it better suited to projects with stable, dedicated infrastructure than to casual integrations.

Who it's for

GW2Skills is a good fit for Guild Wars 2 players who want to configure builds in detail, consult profession-based skill and trait references, and share setups through links. Its free access also suits players who need a capable planner without a subscription. It is less suitable for mobile-first users and for developers unable to provide a permanent dedicated IP.

Pros and cons

Pro: The editor combines skills, traits, equipment, effects and combo options, giving players a single place to assemble a build.
Pro: QuickLinks and chat-link loading make sharing and returning to builds straightforward.
Pro: The site is free and ad-free, with donations supporting continued operation.
Con: No mobile application is planned, ruling it out for players who need a native mobile workflow.
Con: Conditional trait calculations rely on full-health, no-negative-condition assumptions and selected temporary effects, so they may not match a particular fight.
Con: API use in a project requires a permanent dedicated IP and prior contact, limiting integration flexibility.

Verdict

Choose GW2Skills if you play Guild Wars 2 and want a free, detailed build editor paired with profession-based references and link sharing. Its strongest advantage is the combination of planning and lookup without a subscription; look elsewhere if you need a mobile app or an API that works without a permanent dedicated IP.
