Overview

Limo is a free, open-source mod manager developed primarily for Linux. It suits Linux players who want to manage supported Steam games or OpenMW setups alongside NexusMods and LOOT workflows. Its strongest case is a focused toolkit for those use cases; players on other operating systems or relying on different game and mod-source workflows should look elsewhere.

Key features

Limo imports installed Steam games and supports specialized configurations for some titles. Its built-in NexusMods integration lets users check for updates, view mod information, and download mods inside the manager. That makes it a useful choice for players whose mod library centers on NexusMods, but planned Thunderstore and Gamebanana API support is not yet part of the current workflow.

LOOT integration manages installed plugins, sorts load order, and checks for plugin issues. OpenMW users can manage plugin and archive files with LOOT support as well. Mod profiles and conflict detection add control over deployments: when mods conflict, the lower mod in the deployer's load order wins. Limo also creates backups automatically when target files need to be overwritten, which gives users a recovery point when deployment changes existing files.

Automatic updates round out the feature set. The project is licensed under GPL-3.0, and its repository lists 170 commits, 775 stars, and 27 forks.

Pricing

Limo is free and open source. The Free plan has no stated usage caps, and there are no paid plan prices or billing terms to weigh. That makes it a straightforward option for individual Linux players, though teams needing a paid support or service tier will need a different product.

Platforms

Limo is primarily developed for Linux. It is available as a Flatpak, through the Arch User Repository, or as a source build. The Flatpak is the officially supported version; the AUR version offers early access to some features, which may appeal to users who want newer functionality but is a less conservative choice. The Flatpak workflow currently supports Bethesda Steam games such as Skyrim, Skyrim SE, and Skyrim VR.

Who it's for

Limo is best suited to Linux players managing supported Bethesda Steam games or OpenMW, especially those who use NexusMods and want LOOT, profiles, conflict detection, and automatic backups in the same manager. It is less suitable when the target game falls outside the supported Steam workflow or when a user depends on Thunderstore or Gamebanana today.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free and GPL-3.0 licensed, with no stated free-tier caps.
Pros: NexusMods and LOOT integrations cover mod discovery, updates, downloads, plugin sorting, and issue checks.
Pros: Automatic backups before target-file overwrites reduce the risk of deployment changes.
Cons: Linux-focused support and a currently limited Bethesda Steam Flatpak workflow narrow its fit.
Cons: Thunderstore and Gamebanana integrations are planned rather than available now.

Verdict

Choose Limo if you play supported Bethesda Steam games or use OpenMW on Linux and want NexusMods, LOOT, conflict handling, and automatic backups in one free manager. Its main advantage is that focused Linux workflow; its main drawback is the narrow current game and platform scope, so players outside it should choose a manager aligned with their games and operating system.
