Overview

HiPDF is an online PDF conversion and document utility service from Wondershare, founded in 2003 and headquartered in Shenzhen, China. It suits people who need conversion, OCR and routine PDF editing in one place, with optional AI tools and API access. Its breadth is useful, but the file-size and page caps, AI-use quotas and renewal terms make plan choice important.

Key features

Conversion, OCR and PDF tools

HiPDF converts files to PDF and PDFs to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, images, HTML and text. Its target formats also include EPUB, RTF and Publisher. OCR turns scanned PDFs into editable Word documents, and batch processing helps with recurring multi-file work. Paid plans allow files up to 100 MB and 2,000 pages each, a meaningful ceiling for teams handling unusually large documents.

The wider toolkit covers editing, merging, compression, splitting, image extraction, page rearrangement, protection, unlocking, redaction, signing and sharing. A DOC-to-PDF workflow can open files from Dropbox or cloud storage and save converted PDFs there. The free converter handles files up to 20 MB, so it is better suited to occasional, smaller jobs than large or frequent batches.

AI, API and security

AI tools include Chat with PDF, translation, proofreading, detection, mind maps, reading, rewriting, explanations and question answering. Their practical value depends on the allowance: the annual Basic Plan includes 50 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 50 AI Detector uses, while Advanced includes 1,000 of each. API access has subscription and prepaid pricing models, with custom or high-volume plans by quote; monthly and annual API subscribers get the first 200 files per month free.

HiPDF says uploaded files are permanently deleted within 60 minutes after processing. It also says it is a PDF Association member and cites ISO 27001 and SSI SECURE certifications. Those claims may matter to teams assessing document handling, though they do not replace an organization's own security review.

Pricing

HiPDF uses a freemium model, with a free plan, paid subscriptions and a 7-day trial offer. The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and provides limited access to most PDF and image tools; the converter page sets a 20 MB file limit. That is a practical way to handle lighter tasks, but not a substitute for paid batch work or larger files.

Basic: 39.95 USD per year, billed annually. Web access, OCR, batch processing, 100 MB maximum file size and 2,000 pages per file; the Basic Plan also specifies 50 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 50 AI Detector uses. It fits conversion-heavy users who can work within those AI quotas.
Advanced: 69.95 USD per year, billed annually. Includes web access, OCR, batch processing, the same file and page caps, AI PDF tools, and 1,000 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 1,000 AI Detector uses. The higher price is most defensible when AI work is frequent.
AI monthly: 3.99 USD per month, billed monthly, with web access and 1,000 uses. It is a lower-commitment option for AI features, but does not list the OCR and batch-processing bundle included in the annual plans.
Basic 7-Day Access: 0.95 USD per once, billed once; after 7 days it automatically renews at US$ 39.95 per year. It includes 2,000 pages, 100 MB, unlimited batch processing, PDF editing and download tools. Treat the introductory charge as a trial that requires attention to its renewal.
Advanced 7-Day Access: 1.95 USD per once, billed once; after 7 days it automatically renews at US$ 69.95 per year. It includes Basic features plus Chat with PDF, AI Reader and AI Detector, making the renewal price especially relevant if the trial is only for short-term evaluation.
HiPDF API Subscription: 28.00 USD per month, billed monthly. The first 200 files per month are free for monthly and annual subscribers; custom or high-volume plans are available by quote.

The plan descriptions differ on AI allowances: the annual-plan breakdown gives explicit quotas, while the general Basic and Advanced descriptions emphasize the file cap and core tools. Confirm the allowance attached to the checkout plan before committing.

Platforms

The supported-platform list spans web, Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, browser extension and API. The product's specific platform details identify web access, while API access is offered separately. Teams standardizing on a native desktop application should verify that their required workflow is covered before choosing HiPDF.

Who it's for

HiPDF is a good fit for individuals and teams with recurring PDF conversion, OCR and organization needs, especially when batch processing and a broad set of document tools reduce the need for separate utilities. The annual Advanced plan is more appropriate for users who will make substantial use of its AI allowances. Casual users can start with the free converter, while API buyers should compare the monthly subscription and quoted high-volume options with their expected file volume.

It is less compelling for workflows that regularly exceed 100 MB or 2,000 pages per file, or for users who need large AI allowances at the lower annual price. Those readers should weigh the caps and quotas against their actual workload rather than treating the feature list as a guarantee of unlimited use.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad document coverage: conversion, OCR, batch work and editing tools span common PDF tasks in one online service.
AI options scale by plan: Advanced raises the stated annual AI allowances from 50 to 1,000 uses each for Chat with PDF/AI Reader and AI Detector.
Multiple API paths: subscription, prepaid pricing and quoted custom or high-volume plans can suit different integration needs.
Clear stated file-handling window: uploaded files are said to be deleted within 60 minutes after processing.

Cons

Free conversion is capped: files up to 20 MB limit its usefulness for larger documents.
Paid file limits remain: the 100 MB and 2,000-page caps may rule out large-format workloads.
AI allowances vary materially: Basic's stated 50-use quotas are far below Advanced's 1,000, and the trial offers renew automatically after seven days at annual prices.

Alternatives

PDF4me Merge & Split is worth considering when an API-oriented option with a free tier and a one-time pack of 500 API calls better fits the integration budget.

Verdict

Choose HiPDF if your team wants an online toolkit that combines conversion, OCR, batch processing and PDF editing, with AI and API options when needed. Its strongest case is the range of document work available under one service; the main reasons to look elsewhere are the 100 MB and 2,000-page paid-plan limits, the sharp difference in AI quotas by tier, and trial offers that renew automatically at annual rates.
