Overview

Infor Public Sector is a cloud ERP for government, utility, and K–12 organizations that need finance and operational management alongside public-sector workflows. It is best suited to teams looking to bring administrative systems together with permitting and field inspection; organizations seeking only accounting or permitting may find its scope broader than necessary. Its combination of ERP and community-development tools is the main reason to consider it.

Key features

Finance and operational controls

The ERP spans financial management, budgeting and planning, procurement, human capital management, predictive analytics, process automation, and disaster preparedness. Restricted-fund tracking, grant management, and audit trails support financial oversight, while multi-entity and multi-currency accounting address organizations operating across units or currencies. Inventory, order, supplier, logistics, and fulfillment management extend the system into purchasing and operations.

Manufacturing tools, work-in-progress tracking, production costing, shop-floor reporting, and multiple inventory valuation methods make the operational breadth relevant to organizations with production activity too. That range may consolidate work across functions, but it also makes the product a less focused choice for a team that needs just a ledger or a single workflow.

Permitting and field work

Community Development and Regulation manages planning, permits, licenses, inspections, and code enforcement. Its public portal lets residents and other customers handle licensing, permitting, and service tasks online, linking internal case work with public access.

Infor Field Inspector supports inspections and service requests on Android, Windows, and iOS. It can download a subset of data for offline work when configured to store that data on the device. Offline use is therefore conditional on configuration, and teams should determine whether the downloadable subset covers their field workflows.

Integration and deployment

Infor ION supports hybrid integration between Infor and third-party applications running in cloud or on-premises environments, a useful fit for organizations that cannot move every connected system at once. The ERP is cloud-based on AWS GovCloud and supports FedRAMP compliance. Infor Government Solutions says its CloudSuites run on AWS GovCloud managed by US Persons and support FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, and ITAR frameworks. Infor reports more than 1,700 support experts.

Pricing

Infor Public Sector is paid software with custom pricing; contact Infor for a quote. No public plan price is provided, so buyers should request pricing for the modules and deployment scope they need before comparing total costs.

Platforms

Platforms include Android, iOS, Windows, web, self-hosted, and API. The deployment option for the ERP is cloud; mobile inspection support covers Android, Windows, and iOS, with offline access dependent on device data configuration.

Who it's for

Infor Public Sector fits government agencies, utilities, and K–12 organizations seeking an ERP that also supports permitting, licensing, public service access, and field inspections. Its financial controls and operational breadth are relevant to complex organizations, while production features extend its fit to public entities with manufacturing or inventory workflows. A smaller team looking for one narrow capability should weigh that breadth against the overhead of adopting a broader platform.

Pros and cons

Pros

Public workflows alongside ERP: permitting, licensing, inspections, code enforcement, and an online public portal sit alongside financial and operational management.
Broad operational coverage: multi-entity and multi-currency accounting, grants, restricted funds, inventory, and production capabilities serve varied organizational needs.
Hybrid integration and government frameworks: ION supports cloud and on-premises connections, while the GovCloud offering supports named security frameworks.

Cons

Custom pricing: buyers must contact Infor to establish cost, making direct price comparison harder.
Offline access takes configuration: field teams must configure data storage on the device, and only a subset can be downloaded.
Potentially more scope than needed: organizations seeking only accounting or a standalone permitting workflow may not need the wider ERP and manufacturing feature set.

Alternatives

Consider ERPNext if a freemium ERP with a free plan and free trial suits your requirements; its Frappe Cloud Sites plan is 5.00 USD per month, billed monthly, for single-site hosting with managed upgrades and backups. Proginov ERP is another paid ERP option with Android, iOS, Linux, web, self-hosted, Windows, and API platforms.

SYSPRO is worth comparing if you want to choose solution packages and pay for selected capabilities; its Cloud ERP pricing requires a request for solution costing. QAD Adaptive ERP is a paid option with Android, iOS, web, and API platforms.

For manufacturing-focused workflows, tracezilla offers paid plans and a free trial, while Wherefour offers a custom plan with configurable features and no long-term contracts. NovexERP is another paid manufacturing option, with no free plan or trial and a 4000.00 USD one-time pilot onboarding fee for up to 10 named users at one facility. SafetyChain offers a paid Advanced plan priced per facility rather than per user.

Verdict

Choose Infor Public Sector if your government, utility, or K–12 organization wants financial and operational ERP with permitting, public service, and inspection workflows in the same broader platform. Its strongest case is that breadth, supported by hybrid integration and government-focused cloud security. Look elsewhere if you need a narrowly scoped tool, require offline field work without configuration, or need a public price to evaluate the purchase.
