Overview

InfraRecorder brings data, audio, and mixed-mode disc projects together with image recording, copying, and track extraction. Its scope is substantial for a free Windows burner, but the project is marked Beta and its latest version is old, so it is a poor fit where ongoing development or UDF-only discs matter.

Key features

Projects can be written to physical discs or disc images, and the software records ISO and BIN/CUE images. It can copy a disc directly or through a temporary image, and supports dual-layer DVDs. Those options cover common archival and duplication jobs, although the Beta status counsels against making it the foundation of a business-critical workflow.

InfraRecorder offers four methods for blanking rewritable discs, imports sessions from multisession media, and can append further sessions. It also saves audio and data tracks as WAV, WMA, OGG, MP3, or ISO files. That combination is useful for users who need to reuse discs or extract tracks, not just burn a one-off project.

A Windows Explorer extension adds context-menu actions for recording images or saved projects and opening or editing project files. The documented interface follows an Explorer-like layout, supports drag-and-drop project handling, and includes a separate Express application. These conveniences keep the workflow familiar to Windows desktop users; they do not compensate for the filesystem constraint: UDF support is alpha, and InfraRecorder cannot create UDF-only filesystems.

Pricing

InfraRecorder

The plan is free at 0.00 USD per free, with CD/DVD burning for Windows. There is no free trial because the software is offered as a free plan. That makes it suitable for individuals or teams needing basic disc work without a software charge, but no paid tier or different support level is part of the offer.

The project is licensed under GPL version 3; its graphics are not covered by that license. Organizations evaluating reuse should account for that distinction rather than assume all bundled material shares the software license.

Platforms

InfraRecorder runs on Windows. Its Windows Explorer integration is a practical advantage for users already managing projects and images in that environment, but it does not serve macOS or Linux users.

Who it's for

Choose InfraRecorder for occasional Windows disc burning, copying, multisession work, or track export when a free tool covers the job. Look elsewhere if your workflow requires UDF-only filesystems, cross-platform operation, or a project with a more current release history.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free access covers data, audio, and mixed-mode projects, image recording, disc copying, dual-layer DVDs, and track exports.
Pros: Multisession importing and four rewritable-disc blanking methods help with media that is reused or built incrementally.
Cons: UDF remains alpha, and UDF-only filesystems cannot be generated, limiting newer filesystem-dependent workflows.
Cons: The project is marked Beta, with the files page showing an old latest-version release; that makes it a less convincing choice for long-term operational reliance.

Alternatives

For a dedicated free disc burner with no trial clock, consider Disc Studio, which is free for personal and commercial use and has no ads or account requirement. Choose AnyBurn if you need a Windows option whose free plan also includes audio CD ripping, image-file tools, and bootable USB creation, or if business use matters. Express Burn is another freemium option for macOS and Windows, with a free plan and trial. For a free Windows utility limited to virtual drives, gBurner Virtual Drive offers up to 16; it is a different kind of tool from InfraRecorder's disc burner.

ISO Creation Software is a category to explore if your priority is creating ISO images. PhotoDirector, Alcohol 52%, BurnAware, and Folder2ISO are also alternatives.

Verdict

InfraRecorder is a reasonable no-cost pick for Windows desktop users who need familiar disc burning, copying, or track export and can accept an aging Beta project. Its breadth is the case for choosing it; its UDF limitation and old release history are the reasons to look elsewhere for newer filesystem needs or a workflow that depends on continued project development.
