Overview

Riipen connects colleges and universities, organizations, and learners through mostly virtual projects embedded in academic programs. It suits institutions coordinating employer-linked learning at scale, while its no-cost employer access can lower barriers to participation. The trade-off is that institutional pricing is custom, and LMS compatibility should be checked before adoption.

Key features

Project coordination

Educators can publish course experiences, match with projects, onboard learners, assign work, and reuse experiences in later terms. Employers can post projects and manage learner communication, deliverables, and feedback. Milestones, deadlines, team assignments, agreements, surveys, worklogs, and team-status tracking give projects a shared operating structure. That makes Riipen more than a project marketplace, though teams should confirm its workflows align with their placement processes.

Outcomes and reporting

Educators can collect employer feedback, run surveys, award achievements, build reports, and export raw data. This is useful for programs that need to assess learning outcomes as well as arrange projects. Achievement data can connect to credentialing platforms, including a native Credly integration.

Integrations and developer access

Riipen supports LTI connections for single sign-on account provisioning and linking learners to experiences. Its deeper LMS integrations can use API features such as roster syncing. SAML 2.0 support covers identity integration, while a documented REST API, webhooks, a developer dashboard, and Zapier provide options for custom or codeless automation.

The experience LTI integration currently supports Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, and Moodle. Institutions on another LMS should contact Riipen rather than assume compatibility. Riipen also provides an employer portal, placement workflows, evaluation forms, approval workflows, and single sign-on.

Security

Riipen says customer data is hosted in AWS facilities in Canada across two availability zones, encrypted in transit and at rest, with access and activity logged and audited. Security questions can be directed to help@riipen.com.

Pricing

Riipen uses a freemium model. Riipen for students and employers costs 0.00 USD per free. Students and employers can use the platform without a charge, and employers pay no recruitment fee for hiring students after a project or course. This is a meaningful advantage for organizations testing project-based collaboration without a platform bill.

Riipen for institutions has custom pricing, shared on request through a demo. The free access for employers and students does not establish what an institution will pay, so colleges and universities should assess the institutional quote against their LMS and workflow needs.

Platforms

Riipen is available on web and offers an API. Its integration options make it relevant to institutions connecting learning systems and automation, but the supported LTI list is limited to Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, and Moodle.

Who it's for

Riipen is strongest for colleges and universities embedding employer projects in courses and tracking learner outcomes. Businesses and nonprofits can contribute projects and access student talent without platform or post-project recruitment fees. Learners benefit when their institution and an organization use the platform to structure project work within an academic program.

It is less compelling for teams seeking a clearly priced institutional product before engaging with sales, or for institutions relying on an LMS outside the supported LTI list without confirming an integration path.

Pros and cons

Pro: Free student and employer access, with no recruitment fee for employers hiring after a project or course, can reduce participation barriers.
Pro: Project coordination spans milestones, assignments, worklogs, agreements, and status tracking, supporting delivery as well as matching.
Pro: Outcome surveys, employer feedback, reporting, achievements, and raw data export support learning-outcome assessment.
Pro: LTI, SAML 2.0, REST API, webhooks, and Zapier cover several integration approaches.
Con: Institutional pricing is custom, so colleges cannot evaluate the full cost from a published price.
Con: The experience LTI integration supports four named LMSs; other LMS users need to confirm fit directly.

Verdict

Choose Riipen if your institution needs to coordinate course-based employer projects and report on learner outcomes, especially when free employer participation matters. Its combination of project management, outcome tracking, and integration options is the case for choosing it. Look elsewhere if you need transparent institutional pricing or depend on an LMS whose integration fit has not been confirmed.
