Overview

ISF Watchkeeper is maritime software for planning crew work and rest hours and managing compliance. It suits ship managers who need vessel-level planning linked to shore-side oversight. Its fleet monitoring and mobile records make it a focused choice for maritime operations, while custom pricing and a trial prerequisite for Watchkeeper Online make evaluation less direct.

Key features

Watchkeeper 3 combines team planning and vessel scheduling with onboard operation, then synchronizes data with Watchkeeper Online. The Online dashboard centralizes compliance monitoring across vessels, with alerts and historical reports. That is useful for shore teams tracking a fleet rather than relying on separate vessel reviews; operators managing only one ship may have less need for the centralized view.

Compliance checks cover STCW, ILO MLC, US OPA 90 and OCIMF regulations. Watchkeeper 4 Mobile lets seafarers record work and rest hours on smartphones and tablets and check live compliance status, supporting recordkeeping away from the vessel desktop. Watchkeeper 3 can also cross-check recorded hours against vessel events for SIRE 2.0 and report acknowledgement of non-conformities, which is relevant to operators preparing compliance records around inspections.

Integration options include an API and third-party crewing software support in Watchkeeper 3. AppLink imports and exports data through Microsoft Excel files, giving spreadsheet-based workflows a route in and out without replacing their existing data-handling practices. Global Analytics & Benchmarking compares fleet performance with industry data and identifies high-risk locations; that adds value for teams looking beyond individual compliance records to fleet patterns.

The privacy policy describes HTTPS, anonymisation or pseudonymisation where suitable, and system monitoring for vulnerabilities and attacks. Customers receive free subscription support by email or support form.

Pricing

ISF Watchkeeper is paid software with custom pricing and no free plan. A fully functional 30-day trial is offered for product versions, and Watchkeeper Online trials can be requested. Watchkeeper 3 has pricing by request. Watchkeeper 3 Online is billed per vessel per year, with custom pricing; its trial requires Watchkeeper 3 Network Version. The per-vessel annual term matters for fleet budgeting, and the Network Version prerequisite makes Online harder to evaluate as a standalone purchase. Pricing must be requested, so teams cannot compare a published subscription rate before engaging.

Platforms

Platforms include Android, iOS, macOS, web, Windows and API access. The combination spans mobile crew use, desktop vessel operations and browser-based shore monitoring. The product is purpose-built around ship and fleet workflows rather than a generic crew scheduler.

Who it's for

Watchkeeper is the stronger fit for ship managers coordinating crew work and rest compliance across vessels, especially when seafarers need mobile recording and shore teams need centralized monitoring. Its duty-time rules, fatigue management, mobile access and trip assignment support align with operational crew workflows. Organizations that need only general-purpose scheduling, or that require transparent upfront pricing, should compare alternatives before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Fleet-wide monitoring, alerts and historical reports give shore staff a consolidated compliance view.
Pros: API support, third-party crewing integrations and Excel import/export offer multiple ways to connect existing workflows.
Pros: Mobile work-and-rest recording and live status checks bring recordkeeping to seafarers' phones and tablets.
Cons: Custom pricing prevents straightforward price comparison before a sales request.
Cons: The Online trial requires Watchkeeper 3 Network Version, limiting standalone evaluation of the cloud component.

Alternatives

For a broader set of crew scheduling options, see Crew Scheduling Software. Optibus is another paid option with Android, iOS, web and API platforms; choose it when those platform needs matter more than Watchkeeper's stated maritime compliance focus. Signal is a paid option with Android, iOS, web and API platforms. E-CMS is a paid web option. HASTUS is a paid option for Android, iOS and web. RadiantFleet is a paid option for Android, iOS and web. AIMS is a paid option that also supports self-hosting; its pricing and system information are handled through an RFI. COMPAS is a paid option for Android, iOS and web. CrewLogic is a paid option for Android, iOS, web and Windows.

Verdict

Choose ISF Watchkeeper if your operation needs maritime work-and-rest planning, mobile crew records and a shore-side view across vessels in one connected product. Its strongest reason to buy is that joined vessel, mobile and fleet compliance workflow; its strongest reason to look elsewhere is custom pricing coupled with an Online trial that depends on the Network Version.
