Overview

Keel combines fund administration with a branded investor portal for private equity, venture capital, family offices, search funds, and independent sponsors. It is strongest for managers administering a single-entity fund who want investor operations, fund economics, and tax workflows together; firms that require multi-entity structures now should look elsewhere.

Its free entry point is unusually practical for a small fund, while expanding investor access is not the same as expanding structure: the Free plan caps the account at one entity and 10 active investors. Paid plans lift the investor cap, but multi-entity support is still a future fit rather than a current one.

Key features

Operations and fund economics

Keel handles onboarding, commitments, capital calls, bank reconciliation, distributions, performance reporting, and tax workflows. It also covers capital-account tracking and NAV workflows, with European and American distribution waterfalls, GP catch-up, carried interest, preferred returns, hurdles, and recallable capital. This breadth suits managers who need fund economics as well as recurring investor administration; it is more than a portal for sharing statements.

Investor access and AI review

The branded investor portal gives investors capital-call notices, current capital-account balances, statements, tax documents, and fund analytics. The AI Suite processes emailed capital-call notices, deal materials, and portfolio updates for manager review, but requires confirmation before creating or issuing actions. That checkpoint keeps managers in control; it is not an unattended operations workflow.

Currencies, tax, and integrations

Keel supports USD, EUR, GBP, and JPY fund currencies, plus K-1 and foreign-investor tax forms including W-8, 1042-S, and K-3. Paid tiers offer Plaid live bank sync, though it is unavailable in some countries. Accounting integration is listed with the AI Suite on Multi-Fund and Enterprise. Web subscription documents and investor tax reporting are paid add-ons on eligible tiers, so buyers should factor those costs into a full workflow.

Security and governance

Keel states that it uses TLS/HTTPS in transit, AES-256-GCM application-layer encryption for sensitive data at rest, mandatory administrator MFA, role-based access, tenant isolation, and a seven-year audit trail. It is not yet SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certified, which may exclude it from teams with certification requirements. Multi-Fund and Enterprise include a dedicated database and data-residency option. Security diligence questions can be sent to security@keelmanager.com.

Pricing

Keel uses a freemium model, with paid plans from £265.00 GBP per month and a 30-day trial on Single Fund and Multi-Fund. The displayed prices are Early Adopter rates; the prior prices shown are useful context when assessing the offer.

Plan	Price and terms	What it fits
Free	0.00 GBP per free; one entity, up to 10 active investors, no credit card, no time limit	A small fund validating a basic workflow without a subscription commitment. The investor cap makes it a starter tier, not a scalable operating plan.
Starter	265.00 GBP per month; £265/fund / mo Early Adopter, previously £380/fund / mo; one entity, unlimited active investors; monthly billing from signup	A single-entity manager who needs more than 10 investors. It does not include a stated 30-day trial.
Single Fund	605.00 GBP per month; £605/fund / mo Early Adopter, previously £945/fund / mo; one entity, unlimited active investors; 30-day free trial; web subscription documents add-on	A single fund that wants the trial and the option to add web subscription documents. The add-on means the headline price may not cover every investor workflow.
Multi-Fund	1515.00 GBP per month; £1,515/mo Early Adopter, previously £2,650/mo; three entities included, then £380 / entity; unlimited active investors; 30-day free trial	Managers operating across several entities who need more than a single-fund plan. It still does not satisfy a need for multi-entity fund structures today.
Enterprise	4540.00 GBP per contact; from £4,540 / mo + per fund; unlimited entities	Organizations needing dedicated DB / data residency, SAML / enterprise SSO, API + webhooks, and white-label. The per-fund charge makes total cost dependent on the portfolio.

Free is the only no-cost, no-time-limit option, but its one-entity and 10-investor ceiling is consequential. Starter and Single Fund both cover one entity with unlimited investors; Single Fund costs more and adds a 30-day trial and the web subscription documents add-on. Multi-Fund raises the entity allowance to three, with a charge for each additional entity. Enterprise is custom pricing rather than a simple flat rate because the listed monthly starting price is also per fund.

Platforms

Keel is available on web and through an API. API + webhooks are specifically listed for Enterprise, so teams evaluating programmatic access should confirm which plan covers the integration they need.

Who it's for

Keel is a good match for a manager running a single-entity fund who wants capital calls, investor balances, reporting, tax workflows, and fund economics in one system. The free tier can suit a very small operation, while Starter removes the active-investor cap for one entity. Multi-Fund and Enterprise are more relevant when multiple entities, data residency, SSO, or API and webhook access are requirements.

It is a weaker fit for firms that need master-feeder or other multi-entity fund structures immediately, or for procurement teams that require SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification. Managers should also account for paid add-ons and confirm Plaid availability in their country.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad administration coverage: onboarding, capital activity, reporting, tax workflows, NAV, and capital accounts sit alongside sophisticated waterfall economics.
Investor-facing access: investors can retrieve notices, balances, statements, tax documents, and analytics through a branded portal.
Low-commitment starting point: Free has no credit-card requirement or time limit, and paid plans provide a 30-day trial on Single Fund and Multi-Fund.
Manager approval stays in the loop: AI Suite outputs require confirmation before actions are created or issued.

Cons

One-entity operating scope today: multi-entity structures, including master-feeder setups, are coming soon, limiting its immediate fit for more complex fund structures.
Free is tightly capped: one entity and 10 active investors will constrain a growing fund.
Add-ons can raise the bill: web subscription documents and investor tax reporting are paid add-ons on eligible plans.
Certification gap: Keel is not yet SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certified, a potential blocker for regulated or procurement-led buyers.

Alternatives

Hemrock is worth considering when self-hosting and avoiding per-seat fees matter: its free plan runs on the customer’s infrastructure and covers funds, SPVs, and the team, with estimated running costs of roughly $0 to $75 a month.

aama.io may suit teams comparing a paid fund-administration option with a per-deal SPV plan; its Syndicate SPV price is capped between USD 3,500 and USD 10,000 per deal, with unlimited investors per deal.

Dynamo CRM & Deal Management is another paid platform, with ballpark pricing via demo request.

Fundwave is an option for buyers weighing another paid fund-administration product; its Fund Admin Seed plan is shown at $800/mo. and has quarterly and annual options.

Juniper Square is another paid platform to compare.

Perfona may appeal to buyers considering a paid platform with a free trial; its Portfolio Technology plan charges monthly after a two-week trial.

VCF.co is positioned for sub-$25M funds, with a custom quote based on fund size, LP count, and needed features after a demo call.

Allvue Investment Management is another option for teams seeking investment management software, with pricing available by demo request.

Verdict

Choose Keel if you run a single-entity private-market fund and want investor administration, economics, and tax work alongside a branded portal, with a free tier for a small operation and paid plans that remove the investor cap. Look elsewhere if your structure requires multiple entities now, your compliance process requires SOC 2 or ISO 27001, or add-on costs and per-fund Enterprise pricing do not fit your budget.
