Overview

Silverpeas brings employee directory, news publishing and page-building capabilities together with tools for documents, communication and work processes. That combination can help organizations consolidate intranet functions, while its links to corporate directories and information systems support access to business applications according to employee rights. Teams seeking a narrowly focused or fully managed tool may find the platform broader than they need.

Key features

Document access rights, versioning and full-text search give teams practical ways to manage shared material. Internal news, discussions, forums and notifications cover everyday communication; forms and workflows extend processes to mobile, while project dashboards, milestones, task assignment and resource sharing support coordinated work. More than 25 applications make Silverpeas flexible across those needs, although organizations should weigh that breadth against the effort of deploying and supporting the platform.

Directory and information-system integration can align access to business web applications with employee rights. Kerberos and SAMLv2 SSO support are relevant to organizations with established identity systems. Silverpeas says its security policy is based on ISO 27001 and ISO 27002 and is integrated into its quality management system. Its security page identifies Scaleway and OVH datacenters in France for hosting.

The native iOS and Android app includes offline mode, push alerts and optional SSO. Those capabilities help employees stay connected to the workspace away from a desktop, while the platform's web and API availability gives teams additional access points.

Pricing

The free offer costs 0.00 EUR per free and provides a basic collaborative platform, but excludes additional modules. Customers supply hosting, need IT skills and receive mailing-list support, making it most appropriate for organizations with technical capacity and control over their own deployment.

The SaaS offer costs 2.00 EUR per month, billed per user, and includes 500 MB per user for 10 to 50 users. That user range and storage allowance make it a defined option for smaller deployments; organizations outside the cap should compare the other offers. The Cloud offer starts at 2000.00 EUR per year, with price based on the number of users. On-premise starts at 5000.00 EUR per year, also priced according to user count, for organizations choosing that deployment route.

Support is priced per contact and billed HT. SILVER costs 3500.00 EUR per contact and allows one authorized support contact. GOLD costs 6900.00 EUR per contact, allows three contacts and includes two platform updates per year. PLATINUM costs 11500.00 EUR per contact, allows four contacts and includes four platform updates per year with look support. ENTERPRISE costs 20700.00 EUR per contact, allows six contacts, eight platform updates per year with full support for specifics, and an annual health check-up. Live email and phone support begins at GOLD; paid support plans also provide project documentation, forums, FAQs and bug tracking. Organizations should compare the contact allowances and update cadence against their support needs.

Platforms

Silverpeas supports web, API, self-hosted, Android and iOS access. The native mobile app's offline mode, push alerts and optional SSO make mobile use more practical for organizations whose employees need access beyond the browser.

Who it's for

Silverpeas can suit organizations of different sizes, including communities, public bodies, hospitals, schools, associations and industries. Its directory integration, SSO options and document permissions are particularly relevant where access needs to reflect organizational roles. The free offer is a better fit for teams able to provide hosting and technical support; organizations seeking a managed service should consider SaaS or Cloud instead.

Pros and cons

Broad collaboration coverage: More than 25 applications span documents, communication, workflows and project coordination, which can reduce the need to assemble those functions separately.
Useful access controls: Directory integration, employee-rights-based application access, document permissions and Kerberos or SAMLv2 SSO support suit organizations with established identity practices.
Practical mobile support: Native iOS and Android apps include offline mode and push alerts, with optional SSO.
Free deployment has real overhead: The free offer requires customer hosting and IT skills, excludes additional modules and limits support to a mailing list.
Paid support is tiered by contact and updates: Organizations needing more authorized contacts or platform updates must choose higher-priced support options.

Alternatives

Compare intranet software if you want to assess the wider category. Appspace Intranet is worth considering for a small deployment that fits its free plan of two Premium Users, one Appspace Device ID, 5GB storage and 5GB monthly bandwidth. Zoho Connect may suit a team of up to five users seeking a free plan. HubEngage offers a free Starter plan for up to 200 users with communications, social, recognitions, surveys and instant messaging, a better fit when those functions are the priority. Akumina is another option to compare for organizations seeking a paid platform with self-hosted availability. Axero may suit buyers seeking paid workspaces, communication, content management, notifications, task management and gamification. eXo Platform is worth comparing for organizations that want paid plans with defined spaces and per-user storage. MangoApps may fit organizations with at least 200 employees considering its Communications & Intranet plan, which starts at 9.00 USD per month. Omnia is another paid option to consider for web and mobile access.

Verdict

Choose Silverpeas if your organization wants a broad, directory-connected collaboration workspace with document management, workflows, project tools and native mobile access. Its strongest case is the combination of breadth and identity integration; look elsewhere if you need a free service without hosting responsibilities or a simpler, narrowly scoped intranet.
