Overview

Lingo combines asset organization with version history and guest sharing, giving teams a way to manage and distribute assets without limiting the library to common image files. Support spans formats including SVG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, HEIC, video, audio, fonts, design files, documents, 3D files, ZIP archives, colors and URLs.

Metadata and tagging can help teams structure a varied collection, while API access gives builders a route to connect Lingo to the systems they already use. Those capabilities make it more compelling for shared asset workflows than for an individual who only needs a place to store a small set of files.

Key features

Broad asset support

Lingo accepts both familiar creative formats and less typical library content, including Lottie, PSD, AI, INDD, Sketch, Keynote, Pages, STL and OBJ. That breadth is useful when one team needs a single asset library across design, media, documents and brand references. Teams should still compare their actual storage needs with the allowance on the plan they choose.

Organization and sharing

Metadata and tagging, version history and guest sharing address three practical needs: finding assets, tracking changes and sharing work beyond the editor group. Together, they suit teams that maintain a changing library and need controlled collaboration rather than a static file dump.

API access

API access is a meaningful fit for builders who want asset workflows to connect with other software. Lingo’s platform listing is API; it does not establish native desktop or mobile apps, so teams requiring those should not assume they are included.

Pricing

Lingo has a free 30-day trial, then paid plans. The free trial is time-limited rather than a continuing free tier, so teams should account for ongoing charges before moving a workflow into the service.

Plan	Price and terms	Included allowance and fit
Try for Free	0.00 USD per free for 30 days	A short evaluation window for teams deciding whether Lingo’s asset and sharing workflow fits.
Starter	80.00 USD per month billed annually, plus $16/editor/mo billed annually	50 consumers/mo and 100 GB included. A starting point for teams with a modest sharing audience and storage needs.
Business	160.00 USD per month billed annually, plus $24/editor/mo billed annually	100 consumers/mo and 200 GB included. The higher allowances suit teams sharing with more consumers or maintaining a larger library, at a higher base and per-editor cost.
Enterprise	Custom pricing	Custom security and compliance reviews, invoicing and purchase orders make this the relevant tier for organizations with those procurement or review requirements.

Starter and Business both combine an annual-billed plan fee with an annual-billed charge per editor. That makes the total dependent on both the number of editors and the tier, rather than just the headline monthly base. Starter includes half the Business consumer and storage allowances; teams near either cap should weigh the higher Business price against the cost of outgrowing Starter.

Platforms

Lingo is listed with API platform support. That makes it relevant for integrations, but teams choosing software based on a required desktop, web or mobile application should verify that their workflow can run through the API.

Who it's for

Lingo is a strong candidate for design, brand and product teams managing diverse asset types, sharing with non-editor collaborators and connecting asset workflows through an API. It is less suitable for buyers who need a perpetual free tier, predictable per-seat-only pricing or a specified native application platform.

Pros and cons

Pros

Wide format coverage: support for creative, media, document and 3D formats reduces the need to separate unlike assets into different libraries.
Useful shared-library tools: metadata and tagging, version history and guest sharing support organization and collaboration in the same workflow.
API access: builders can consider Lingo for workflows that need to connect with other software.

Cons

Costs stack: paid plans carry both an annual-billed base fee and a per-editor charge, making team size central to the price.
Plan allowances are finite: Starter includes 50 consumers per month and 100 GB; Business raises those to 100 consumers and 200 GB, but not without a higher price.
No ongoing free tier: the free option lasts 30 days, which limits its usefulness for teams that need a long-term no-cost library.

Alternatives

For adjacent categories, compare Design System Software, Brand Management Software and Digital Asset Management Software.

Supernova is worth considering when a freemium design-system platform with API, macOS and web support is a better fit; its free plan allows up to five seats and includes workspace credits, a design system and other capped resources.
Handoff is an alternative for teams prioritizing a free option with Linux, macOS, web, Windows and self-hosted platform support.
Bezel may suit teams seeking a web-based freemium option with a free plan; its free plan is not yet open for signup.
Carbon Design System is the clearer choice for teams seeking a free, open-source design system rather than a paid asset-management platform.
Particles UI may fit teams that want a free tier across desktop and web platforms and value the maker’s statement that its CLI is MIT-licensed and local token management and export work without an account.
Spec Layer is a web-based freemium option for teams whose work fits its free allowance of one Figma file and ten publishing updates per month.
Zaklad is another freemium alternative, with Android, iOS and web support.
Design Tokens is worth comparing for teams focused on token workflows; its free plan includes Figma variable sync, CSS/SASS export, W3C JSON import/export and limits on themes, workspaces and users.

Verdict

Choose Lingo if your team needs one shared library for varied creative assets, with organization, version history, guest sharing and API access in the same product. Its breadth and workflow features are the main reasons to choose it; the annual-billed base and per-editor charges, along with consumer and storage caps, are the main reasons to look elsewhere if your team is small, cost-sensitive or needs a continuing free plan.
