Overview

LOGINventory is an on-premises platform for discovering and documenting hardware, software, configurations, and permissions across an IT network. It suits teams that need broad infrastructure inventory while keeping inventory data in their own environment. Its main trade-off is a server that requires Windows and SQL Server.

Key features

Agentless discovery uses WMI/RPC, SNMP, or SSH, while an Offline Agent extends collection to Windows, Linux, and macOS devices outside the LAN. This gives administrators options across local and remote devices, but depends on access to the relevant protocols for agentless collection.

Coverage spans Windows, Linux/Unix, macOS, SNMP network devices, multiple hypervisors, Microsoft cloud services, AWS virtual machines, and Exchange. The product can capture up to 1,117 individual values per Windows device by default, a level of detail useful for documenting complex estates.

The Inventory Edition centers on inventory; the SAM Edition adds license management, target-versus-actual comparisons, software usage measurement, and compliance reports. That makes SAM the more relevant choice when software licensing and usage are part of the job, while inventory-only teams can avoid paying for those additional capabilities.

Integration options include a REST API with JSON, PowerShell, CSV, custom scan scripts, and direct connections for MDM and ITSM/CMDB products. Named integrations include Microsoft Intune, baramundi, APPTEC360, Sophos Mobile, Kyberna ky2help, iET ITSM, helpLine, and i-net HelpDesk. This range can help fit inventory into existing management workflows.

LOGINventory runs on customer infrastructure and stores inventory data in a local SQL database; the maker says that data is not transmitted to it. The optional LIA AI assistant processes requests through Azure OpenAI with automatic anonymization and can be disabled. Neither LOGINventory nor Schmidt’s LOGIN GmbH is ISO 27001 certified; a manually completed control template is included, a distinction teams with formal certification requirements should weigh.

Pricing

The free Forever-Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and is capped at 20 devices. It offers a way to begin with a small inventory, but its device ceiling makes it unsuitable as a growing estate's long-term tier.

Inventory360 costs 6.50 EUR per year and SAM360 costs 8.60 EUR per year, each for 0–249 assets; prices exclude VAT. These low asset tiers suit smaller deployments, with SAM360 the choice when software asset management is needed. For larger estates, the annual per-asset editions use stepped pricing:

Edition	0–249	250–499	500–999	1,000–2,499	2,500–4,999
Inventory Edition	€6.50	€5.90	€5.20	€4.50	€3.70
SAM Edition	€8.60	€7.40	€6.80	€6.00	€4.70

Edition prices are annual per asset and exclude VAT. Both editions require custom pricing at 5,000+ assets. The lower-cost Inventory Edition gives up the SAM additions, while the per-asset tiers make the total scale with inventory size.

A 30-day trial provides the full feature set at the customer's full network size, requires no credit card, and includes personal support. Maintenance includes updates and major releases, business-day technical support by email and phone, one hour of remote consulting per year, and helpdesk access.

Platforms

LOGINventory is self-hosted and on-premises. Its server requires Windows 10/11 or Windows Server 2016–2025 (x64), plus SQL Server 2012 SP4 or later; the installer can include SQL Server Express. The discovery coverage includes Linux and macOS devices, but the server requirement makes this a poor fit for teams that cannot operate a Windows-based server.

Who it's for

LOGINventory fits IT teams that need detailed, cross-platform network inventory, want to retain inventory data locally, or need software asset management alongside discovery. Its maker describes use by German-speaking mid-market IT managers and organizations from small businesses to enterprises. Teams requiring ISO 27001 certification, or unable to meet the Windows and SQL Server server requirements, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro: Agentless discovery plus an Offline Agent covers local and off-LAN devices across several operating systems and network technologies.
Pro: Inventory stays in a local SQL database, with the optional AI assistant able to be disabled.
Pro: The two editions separate inventory needs from license management, usage measurement, and compliance reporting.
Con: The server requires Windows and SQL Server, constraining teams standardized on other server platforms.
Con: The maker states that it and the product are not ISO 27001 certified, which may exclude it from some procurement requirements.
Con: The free plan stops at 20 devices, and pricing for estates above 4,999 assets is custom.

Alternatives

For broader IT asset discovery choices, compare the IT Asset Discovery Software directory; for a network-focused shortlist, see Network Discovery Software. Teams prioritizing documentation can browse Network Documentation Software, while asset-management buyers can compare the IT Asset Management Software directory.

GLPI is worth considering if a per-agent public-cloud plan is preferable: its Public Cloud plan is 19.00 EUR per month per IT agent from one billed agent, and it also has a free plan. Choose OCS Inventory NG if a free offering is the priority. Open-AudIT has a free plan with unlimited devices and community support, a different fit for teams comfortable with that support model.

runZero may suit teams whose immediate need fits its Community Edition limit of 100 assets, one organization, 10 recurring tasks, and 30 days of data retention. CloudQuery is an alternative for teams seeking cloud asset inventory in their own database, with a free plan capped at 1M rows. Flexera One IT Asset Management is another option to assess for IT asset management.

IT Asset Tool offers a free Basic plan up to 35 assets; its Enterprise Y3 plan is 320.00 EUR per year with unlimited assets. Lansweeper is another inventory alternative to compare.

Verdict

Choose LOGINventory if your team needs detailed, broad network discovery, local control of inventory data, and a clear path from inventory to software asset management. Its strongest advantage is that combination; its main drawback is the Windows-and-SQL Server server dependency, compounded for some buyers by the lack of ISO 27001 certification.
