Overview

Osprey is a planning and session-recording service for IEP practitioners and education teams. It is best suited to practitioners who want to connect activities, learner data, and progress review in one workflow. Its clearest advantage is that continuity; teams should weigh it against custom pricing and the need to confirm system integrations and privacy arrangements before adoption.

Osprey v1.0 supports planning, running sessions, and documentation for individual practitioners and small coordinated teams. Its scope includes IEPs, accommodations, service logs, goal monitoring, compliance reporting, and data import and export. See Special Education Software for more options in the category.

Key features

Activity planning and session data

A practitioner can describe an IEP goal or lesson in plain language and receive a suggested aligned activity to accept or edit. Keeping that decision with the practitioner makes the AI a planning aid rather than a substitute for professional judgment. Session measures include DTT trials, interval recording, frequency observation, articulation probes, and rubric scoring, covering several approaches to recording learner performance.

Progress monitoring and coordination

Progress views include independence across sessions, curriculum-based measurement against an aimline, and roll-ups across active IEP goals. These give practitioners ways to connect session observations with goal-level review. Practices and centers can use shared learner records, supervisor oversight, and cross-discipline visibility, which may help teams coordinate work across roles.

For schools and districts, Osprey describes IDEA-aligned documentation, generalization tracking across settings, and a connected FBA/BIP workflow. Individual practitioners also get an offline-capable app, useful in buildings with unreliable Wi-Fi. The product describes these school workflows, but v1.0 availability is framed around individual practitioners and small coordinated teams; larger organizations should discuss rollout directly.

Privacy and system fit

Learner-record access is controlled through organization, team, and care-team permissions. AI processing of identifiable learner data requires recorded learner-level consent. Service workloads are hosted in U.S. Azure regions, and Nisana says it does not train generative-AI models on learner records or facilitator content. Nisana acts as a HIPAA business associate only under a written BAA, which must be in place before facilitators process PHI. Confirm consent and BAA requirements as part of implementation.

Broader integration with other systems is on the roadmap, so teams that depend on existing systems connecting to Osprey should verify their workflow before choosing it. Security incident and vulnerability reports go to security@nisana.io; privacy requests go to privacy@nisana.io.

Pricing

Osprey is a paid product with a free plan and a free trial. The Individuals plan is 0.00 USD per free and includes a live web demo, iOS, Android, and Windows apps, and no waitlist. That makes it a low-cost starting point for an individual practitioner, though it is not a published paid tier with defined seat or usage terms.

Schools and districts have custom pricing, with coordination across roles and sites and rollout, privacy agreements, and administrative needs discussed directly. Practices and centers also have custom pricing; shared team visibility and tailored onboarding are included, with formal plan and invoice amounts provided during onboarding. Those options suit organizations needing team workflows, but require a direct pricing conversation rather than a published rate. Confirm applicable seats, quotas, renewal terms, and trial length before committing.

Platforms

Osprey supports Android, iOS, web, and Windows, with deployment spanning web and mobile. The individual practitioner page describes offline-capable use, while the free plan includes a live web demo and apps for iOS, Android, and Windows.

Who it's for

Osprey serves BCBAs, RBTs, special education teachers, SLPs, OTs, PTs, school psychologists, counselors, general educators, paraprofessionals, and administrators. It is most compelling for practitioners and small coordinated teams that need planning, session records, and IEP progress views together. Districts and larger teams should establish pricing, rollout, permissions, and BAA terms before treating it as a fit.

Pros and cons

Pros

Connects activity planning, varied session measures, and goal-level progress views, reducing the need to treat those tasks as separate workflows.
Supports shared records and supervisor visibility for practices and centers, with school-specific documentation and generalization workflows described.
Offline-capable practitioner use and multiple mobile, web, and desktop platforms help accommodate varied work settings.

Cons

Team plans use custom pricing, so organizations cannot compare a published per-seat or per-site rate upfront.
Broader integrations remain on the roadmap, a meaningful limitation for teams that need existing systems connected.
Processing identifiable learner data with AI requires recorded learner-level consent, and PHI requires a written BAA before use.

Alternatives

FrenalyticsEDU is a web-based freemium option; its free tier caps use at 10 student profiles, one staff account, and one daily Learning Session per student, making it worth considering when those limits fit.
PowerSchool Behavior Support is a paid Android, iOS, and web alternative for teams considering another behavior-support platform.
Frontline Special Education Management is a paid web option for districts comparing special education management platforms.
GoIDEA is a paid web alternative with custom quotes based on district needs and the number of schools or students managed; consider it when district-level IEP management is the priority.
Adaptive XI Intelligence has a Solo plan at 588.00 USD per year, billed as one payment for 12 months, for one student with an AI lesson planner, student login, AI assessments with auto-grading, a reading tracker, and a digital library. Choose it when those student-focused tools suit the need better than Osprey's team workflow.
Polaris offers a 10-pack of student licenses for 514.99 USD per year, with unlimited access for service providers; it may suit buyers who prefer a published annual license price.
Progress Desk offers one-time purchases, including 59.00 USD per iPad and 99.00 USD for up to 2 Macs; consider it if a one-time purchase is preferable to custom-priced team plans.
SameGoal Special Education is a paid Android, iOS, and web option with a free trial; it may suit teams comparing another school-focused special education platform.

Verdict

Choose Osprey if you are an individual practitioner or small coordinated team looking to connect IEP-aligned planning, session data, and progress monitoring, particularly when offline-capable use matters. Look elsewhere if published team pricing or established integrations are essential; for any use involving PHI or AI processing of identifiable learner data, settle the BAA and consent requirements first.
