Overview

Miter Job Costing is a construction-focused system for assigning labor and expenses to jobs and cost codes, with payroll and compliance workflows alongside it. It is best suited to contractors that need detailed labor costs to flow into an existing ERP or accounting system. Its appeal is the breadth of labor allocation and field time-entry options; its custom-quote pricing makes it harder to assess against standalone timekeeping tools.

Key features

Miter allocates labor and expense data to jobs and cost codes, then sends the resulting records to a contractor’s ERP. Burdened labor costing can distribute payroll taxes, workers’ compensation, and benefits across jobs, phases, and cost codes. Variance analysis and overhead allocation support cost review beyond basic wage tracking, which matters to teams that need a fuller picture of job-level labor expense.

Users can import a chart of accounts and configure cost codes and general-ledger mapping rules for ERP entries. Miter also supports job-costing recurring reimbursements, paid time off, and per diems. These capabilities make the product more useful where accounting rules and labor-related extras need to stay consistent across jobs, but they also make its value closely tied to the customer’s ERP workflow.

Named integrations include Sage, Acumatica, NetSuite, and QuickBooks; Miter’s broader integrations include Xero, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint Spectrum, Viewpoint Vista, CMiC, and Foundation. Customers can also build custom integrations with Miter’s REST API. Field teams have more than eight time-entry methods, including a mobile app, kiosk, and supervisor entry. Miter’s Production tool extends jobsite tracking to equipment usage, materials, and quantities.

That support can help teams adopting a system with accounting mappings and field workflows to coordinate. The company describes the wider platform as bringing HR, compliance, and financial software together for contractors.

Pricing

Custom quote: Miter bases pricing on company size, headcount, and the products used; prospective customers can request a demo for a quote. There are no published tier prices or plan-by-plan feature distinctions to compare, so teams should assess the quote against their headcount and required products. Miter is a paid product, with no free plan or trial terms stated.

Platforms

Miter supports Android, iOS, and web, and offers an API for integrations. The mix covers mobile field entry and browser-based workflows, while the API gives teams a path to custom connections.

Who it's for

Miter is a strong fit for contractors that want labor, benefits, reimbursements, and other job costs mapped into an ERP or accounting system, especially when their field teams need multiple ways to submit time. It is less suited to buyers who want a low-cost standalone time tracker, a published per-seat price, or a platform whose primary job is independent project accounting.

Pros and cons

Pro: Burdened labor, fringes, and allowances can be allocated to jobs, phases, and cost codes, giving contractors more than wage-only job costing.
Pro: Multiple named accounting integrations and a REST API offer options for connecting cost data to existing systems.
Pro: More than eight time-entry methods accommodate different field workflows, including kiosk and supervisor entry.
Con: Custom-quote pricing prevents straightforward price comparisons before a sales conversation.
Con: Its job-costing value depends on sending detailed cost data to an ERP or accounting system, so it is not the natural choice for teams seeking a self-contained accounting tool.

Verdict

Choose Miter when a contractor needs detailed labor costing, field time entry, and accounting-system integration in one construction-focused platform. Its allocation depth and ERP connections are the central reasons to choose it; look elsewhere if a transparent price, a standalone time tracker, or self-contained accounting matters more.
