Overview

The Good and the Beautiful is a homeschool curriculum spanning preschool through high school, with courses across core subjects and electives. It is best suited to families who want guided, faith-centered teaching and room to build a program from free materials; its subject-by-grade variation and mixed formats call for a closer fit check before committing.

The curriculum covers language arts, math, science, history, handwriting, electives, and reading. Its stated nondenominational Christian approach emphasizes academic thoroughness, nature, faith, character, and wholesome literature. Lessons are designed to be open-and-go and to combine concepts while reducing busywork and teaching time. That may suit parents seeking a structured course with parent guidance, though “open-and-go” does not remove the need to confirm that a particular subject and level match the student.

As a hybrid curriculum, it includes lesson plans, parent guidance, and offline access. The overall range is broad, but offerings vary by subject, so families should not assume that every subject is covered at every grade.

Key features

Free courses and spelling

Downloadable math and language arts courses are free for K–8, giving families a substantial way to use the curriculum in two core subjects without an initial purchase. Simply Spelling is a separate free online program for levels 4–8; it advances students after they master customized word lists. These options work well for families testing the teaching approach or assembling a lower-cost program, but they do not make every subject or level free.

Course formats and device limits

Math K–3 course sets include physical manipulatives, and the Math Boxes are not offered as PDF downloads. That makes the early math materials less suitable for families seeking an entirely digital or printable course. Online courses run in a web browser, but some resources are unavailable on mobile phones, so a phone-only setup may be limiting.

Musical Multiplication is a separate app available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, with no compatibility for other platforms or devices. Its seven-day free trial requires no payment to try. Good and Beautiful Typing is an online program for grades 3–6; a family account supports up to six children learning on their own devices. Those distinctions matter for households choosing between shared family access and a particular device ecosystem.

Privacy and support

The privacy policy says communications are SSL-secured or encrypted, the site complies with PCI vulnerability standards, and the company does not sell, trade, or rent users’ personal identification information. Support is available at support@goodandbeautiful.com, with most weekday support emails answered within one business day. The company also says it does not use AI to create its products and that they contain no AI-generated content.

Pricing

The pricing model is freemium: free downloadable math and language arts courses for K–8 and free Simply Spelling for levels 4–8 provide meaningful entry points. The stated paid starting price is $20.99. Musical Multiplication App Access costs 24.99 USD per once and includes unlimited app access with up to six user profiles, making it the clearest fit for a family needing multiple profiles for that app. The app’s separate seven-day trial is free and requires no payment to try.

The free materials give up the breadth of a complete paid curriculum: they cover only specified subjects and levels. The paid app access does not, by itself, describe access to the broader curriculum. Families should compare the course and format they need rather than treating the starting price as a single all-subject package.

Platforms

The curriculum is available on web, Android, and iOS. Browser access is central to online courses, but some resources do not work on mobile phones. Musical Multiplication is limited to Apple App Store and Google Play Store devices, while Math K–3 Math Boxes are physical rather than PDF materials. Families relying on one device type or fully digital materials should check those limits against the specific course.

Who it's for

This is a strong fit for homeschooling families seeking a broad, guided curriculum with an explicitly Christian approach, parent guidance, lesson plans, and free core-course options. The K–8 free math and language arts materials and free spelling program can help families build around selected subjects before buying more.

It is less suitable for families who need a guaranteed subject at every grade, phone-compatible access to every online resource, or printable substitutes for the early math manipulatives. The subject and format should match the household’s needs before it becomes the backbone of a school plan.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free downloadable math and language arts for K–8, plus free online spelling for levels 4–8, make several core options accessible without a course purchase.
Pros: Lesson plans, parent guidance, and open-and-go lessons support families who want structured teaching with less lesson assembly.
Pros: Musical Multiplication App Access includes unlimited access and up to six profiles, useful for families sharing the app across children.
Cons: Course offerings vary by subject and grade, so its broad range does not guarantee a complete program for a particular student.
Cons: Math K–3 Math Boxes are physical and not PDF downloads, while some online resources are unavailable on phones.
Cons: Musical Multiplication works only through Apple App Store and Google Play Store, excluding other platforms and devices.

Alternatives

Math-U-See is worth comparing for families who want another freemium math curriculum with a free account offering samples from all program levels. Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool is the better direction for families seeking a free, web-based option spanning preschool through grade 8, with high school courses on a separate site.

BookShark suits families considering a paid curriculum with virtual student seats; one listed Science H seat costs 88.00 USD per once and must be used within six months. Logic of English is a paid alternative for families seeking a supplement to printed Foundations curriculum; its Foundations C Online Supplement costs 19.99 USD per year as a one-year, non-renewing subscription.

Teaching Textbooks may fit families who want a paid math course with a defined student enrollment: Math 3 costs 48.95 USD per once for one student, with 12 months of access and 90 days’ pause time. Abeka Homeschool is an option for families seeking K4 video instruction with books, at 58.40 USD per month on a 10-month payment plan, before tax.

Accelerated Christian Education is another paid option, with ePACE priced at 3.50 USD per once and requiring Premium Access, which costs 99.00 USD per year. BJU Press Homeschool may suit families looking for K5 streaming video alongside corresponding textbooks; its online-only plan costs 639.00 USD per once, with access lasting 20 months for orders from February 1 through May 31 or 16 months for orders on or after June 1.

Verdict

The Good and the Beautiful is a compelling choice for homeschooling families who want structured, faith-centered courses and free K–8 math and language arts as a starting point. Its breadth, lesson plans, and parent guidance make it useful across a family’s curriculum, but families should look elsewhere if they need uniform subject coverage by grade, fully phone-friendly online access, or digital substitutes for physical materials.
