Overview

Supporters can contact decision-makers by email, phone, social media or letters to the editor, while organizations can run petitions, action campaigns and fundraising. The breadth is useful for coordinating different kinds of advocacy in one platform; groups seeking only a lightweight petition tool may find the contact-based plans and donation fees more than they need.

New/Mode is offered on web and through an API. Its privacy policy places application and database servers on Amazon Web Services in Canada, with encrypted database backups stored with DigitalOcean in Canada. The company says it uses technical, administrative and physical measures to protect personal data. Subscribers may not use the platform to promote illegal activity, restrict civil or minority rights, or promote hateful speech, among other exclusions.

Key features

Advocacy and targeting

The Individual plan includes Smart Petitions, unlimited email blasts, email-your-rep campaigns and social media advocacy tools. New/Mode says its database targets government decision-makers. That gives activists a way to try several core outreach formats without a subscription, though the free plan’s cap can interrupt use if donations are turned off after 500 contacts or if a payment processor such as Stripe is connected.

Integrations and API

CRM connections include Salesforce, Action Network, NationBuilder, EveryAction, HubSpot, iMIS, ActionKit, and Blackbaud & Raiser’s Edge. WordPress, Drupal and Squarespace integrations connect website workflows, while Mailchimp covers email marketing. This range is a strength for organizations already using those systems. The API is described as fully RESTful and OSDI compliant, which may suit teams connecting New/Mode to other software.

Support

Support scales with the plan: Individual and Grassroots have self-service help, Teams has email support, and Movement Builder+ includes priority support with a 48-hour response. Grassroots organizations must be comfortable solving routine issues on their own; larger teams get a clearer escalation path.

Pricing

New/Mode uses a freemium model, with paid plans starting at $13 per month. Individual is free forever and includes unlimited contacts, the core advocacy tools, self-service help, and donation fees of 100% via Boost or 19% via Stripe Connect. It is a low-cost way for activists to explore the platform, but those payment charges and the free-tier cap matter if donations are part of the campaign.

Grassroots costs $13 per month and includes 1,000 contacts, then $2/1,000, with donations charged at 4% + Stripe fees. It fits small organizations that can stay within that allowance or budget for list growth. Teams costs $109 per month, includes 2,000 contacts and three admin users, then charges $1.75/1,000; donations cost 2.5% + Stripe fees. The higher monthly price buys more administrators and a lower donation rate, a better fit for teams coordinating work across several staff.

Movement Builder+ starts at $349+ and scales with your list, with 5,000+ contacts, five admin users and custom donation rates down to 0.5%. It is aimed at medium- to large-sized organizations and nonprofits whose volume or fundraising needs justify custom pricing. Across plans, contact growth and payment processing can affect total costs, so compare them with list size and expected donations rather than the monthly fee alone.

Platforms

New/Mode supports web and API access. That combination serves teams working through the web interface as well as those integrating the platform into a broader software stack.

Who it's for

Individual is intended for activists testing the platform; Grassroots targets small organizations; Movement Builder+ is designed for medium- to large-sized organizations and nonprofits. Teams is the middle tier for organizations that need three administrators and email support. New/Mode is a stronger fit for groups combining outreach, advocacy and fundraising than for those that need only one of those functions or require more support at the lowest price.

Pros and cons

Broad supporter outreach: Email, phone, social media and letters to the editor give campaigns several ways to reach decision-makers.
Useful stack connections: A wide set of CRM and website integrations, plus Mailchimp and an OSDI-compliant REST API, can reduce friction for teams with existing tools.
Free advocacy toolkit: Individual includes petitions, unlimited email blasts and other advocacy formats without a subscription, but the free-tier cap and donation charges can limit its usefulness for active fundraising.
Costs rise with activity: Contact overages and donation fees apply on paid plans, while Movement Builder+ uses custom pricing; teams should model list growth and fundraising volume before choosing.
Support varies by tier: Self-service help on the two lowest plans may not suit organizations that need direct assistance.

Alternatives

Advocacy Software is a useful category starting point for comparing advocacy platforms. Action Network is worth considering for grassroots activists seeking free tools or a freemium option with a Movement plan starting at $15/mo and usage-based email charges. Changemaker Lite may suit teams that want to self-host more than 45 campaign tools with unlimited users and data, using their own infrastructure. CORE Software is an alternative for teams looking for an open-source solution built on WordPress and CiviCRM. Action Builder may fit organizations that distinguish free volunteer-leader access from paid admin users at $80.00 USD per month per user. ActionKit, CiviClick, ControlShift and Rally Starter are other options to compare.

Verdict

Choose New/Mode if your nonprofit, union or advocacy group wants multi-channel supporter outreach, fundraising and connections to a broad set of existing tools in one platform. Its free advocacy features and tiered plans offer a clear starting point, but contact caps, donation fees and self-service support on lower tiers are meaningful trade-offs. Look elsewhere if those costs or support limits do not fit your campaign model.
