Overview

NextGIS Web is an open-source Web GIS server for managing geospatial data, publishing maps, and collaborating through QGIS. It is best suited to GIS teams that need shared data services and control over deployment. Its cloud Free plan is sharply limited by public-only resources, while Premium is required for cloud resource permissions and guaranteed-reply support.

Key features

NextGIS Web centralizes vector and raster data in a database managed through a web interface or API. Its map engine supports unlimited interactive maps, browser-based feature editing, and sharing, making it useful for teams that need to publish and maintain maps without separating those tasks from data management.

QGIS Teamspace enables multiple users to edit server data in real time with QGIS editing tools. Built-in vector version control records feature changes and supports snapshots and rollback, a practical safeguard for collaborative editing. Data services include raster and vector tiles, WMS, WFS, OGC API Features, and a REST API. Native PostgreSQL support, external WMS/WFS/TMS services, FIRMS fire monitoring, and REST-based custom integrations broaden its fit with existing GIS workflows.

Groups, roles, and permissions can govern layers, services, and maps, but cloud resource permissions require Premium. Linux deployment through Docker lets organizations keep sensitive geospatial data on their own infrastructure. Cloud servers are offered in the US, EU, and APAC.

Pricing

The cloud offering has a free tier and paid plans from €15/mo (annual). Free costs 0.00 EUR per free and permits one user, up to 15 layers, and 5 GiB of storage; all resources are public. That makes it a constrained starting point for public projects, not a suitable home for private geodata.

Mini costs 180.00 EUR per year, billed annually, for one user, 10 GiB of storage, unlimited layers, one tracker, and one collector. It removes the Free layer cap but remains a single-user plan. Premium costs 900.00 EUR per year, billed annually, and includes 5+ users, 50+ GiB, unlimited layers, 5+ trackers, and 5+ collectors. It is the cloud choice for teams needing resource permissions and guaranteed-reply technical support, both unavailable on lower cloud tiers.

On-premise editions use annual pricing. NextGIS Web Standard costs 3500.00 EUR per year, billed €3500 first year and €1750 subsequent years; it includes one server, 50 user accounts, and 40 hours of direct support. Extended costs 7500.00 EUR per year, billed €7500 first year and €3750 subsequent years, and adds Collector Hub, Tracker Hub, Web 3D, File Bucket, and User Activity Log to Standard. Enterprise costs 20000.00 EUR per year, billed €20000 first year and €10000 subsequent years; it adds a second server, 200 user accounts, 150 hours of extended support, and white label to Extended. These editions suit organizations that need an on-premise deployment and defined support hours; their higher upfront first-year prices matter for budgeting.

A free trial is offered. On-premise support hours vary by edition, so Standard, Extended, and Enterprise differ not only in capacity but also in the support commitment.

Platforms

NextGIS Web supports API, Linux, self-hosted, and web deployments. Its hybrid deployment options suit organizations balancing web access with control of infrastructure. Raster support and web mapping are included; spatial analysis is basic. Mobile apps are supported, though the product’s strongest stated collaboration workflow is centered on QGIS.

Who it's for

GIS managers and field teams can use it to coordinate data, maps, and editing, while developers and IT administrators can work with its APIs, integrations, and Linux deployment. Decision makers can use the published maps and services, but teams handling sensitive resources should avoid the cloud Free tier because every resource there is public. It is less compelling for buyers seeking advanced spatial analysis or a purely mobile-first workflow.

Pros and cons

Pros: Vector and raster management, map publishing, QGIS collaboration, and version history sit in one system, reducing the need to stitch together separate workflows.
Pros: Multiple OGC services, REST, PostgreSQL, and external service integrations support a broad range of GIS stacks.
Pros: Docker-based Linux deployment gives organizations an option to keep geodata within their own infrastructure.
Cons: Free cloud resources are public, and the one-user, 15-layer, 5 GiB caps restrict private or growing projects.
Cons: Cloud permissions and guaranteed-reply technical support require Premium, a substantial step up from Mini.
Cons: The stated spatial analysis capability is basic, so analysis-heavy teams may need other tools.

Alternatives

For broader discovery, browse GIS Software and Interactive Map Software.

GIS Cloud is worth considering when mobile platform support or its asset-priced Track plan at 5.00 USD per month better matches the workflow.
Google Earth Engine is an alternative for teams interested in usage-priced storage and compute rather than NextGIS Web’s GIS server plans.
Felt offers a free Personal plan with unlimited maps and sharing, but no own data file uploads and personal use only; it fits individual use better than shared data management.
GRASS GIS is a free, open-source option for teams that prioritize a desktop-capable GIS across Linux, macOS, and Windows.
Mapbox Studio has a free entry point for map work, though related API and custom tileset usage may be billed separately.
MapServer is a free open-source geographic data rendering engine for teams seeking that narrower role.
SuperMap GIS is another paid GIS platform with a free trial.
Precisely EnterWorks is a paid alternative with no free plan.

Verdict

Choose NextGIS Web if your team needs a central geodata server that combines QGIS collaboration, map publishing, version control, and standards-based services, especially when self-hosting matters. Its main drawback is the divide between a public-only Free cloud tier and Premium’s private-resource controls and guaranteed-reply support; teams that need privacy on a budget or more than basic spatial analysis should look elsewhere.
