Overview

Swarmia is an engineering intelligence platform for software teams that want to connect delivery, AI usage, developer experience, and development costs. It is most compelling when leaders need those views together; teams after a narrow repository dashboard may find its breadth—and per-developer pricing—more than they need.

Its strongest case is linking engineering activity across tools to practical questions about slowdowns, AI adoption, team experience, and capitalization. A free plan gives smaller teams a way in, while most capabilities are divided among paid plans.

Key features

Swarmia brings data from codebases, issue trackers, AI tools, and HR systems into a model of an engineering organization. It supports DORA, delivery, reliability, and custom metrics, so teams can examine work from several angles instead of relying on a single workflow measure. The value depends on having the relevant systems connected: Shortcut and GitHub Issues are beta, while Asana and ClickUp are coming soon.

AI reporting covers adoption, activity, cost, and productivity impact. The lower-priced AI adoption and cost plan covers the first three; productivity impact is reserved for the Productivity & AI impact plan. Integrations include GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex, which makes the reporting relevant to teams using those tools.

Recurring developer experience surveys provide team heatmaps while preserving developer confidentiality. Software capitalization reporting can be broken down by project or employee, a useful fit for organizations that need to connect development work with investment reporting. These capabilities are sold in separate plans unless a team moves to Standard.

Swarmia states that it is SOC 2 Type 2 audited and provides its report to customers and prospective customers on request. It requests source-code access but says it does not store source code; it does store each commit’s change size per file. Customer data and encrypted backups are stored by default in Google Cloud’s Frankfurt region, with US residency options open for discussion. The company signs a GDPR-compatible Data Processing Agreement, and customers can request permanent data deletion through support.

Pricing

Swarmia uses freemium pricing, with paid plans billed annually per developer. The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and is limited to companies with fewer than 10 software developers; it excludes HRIS integrations and Swarmia AI. That makes it a useful starting point for a small team, but not a substitute for paid access to those capabilities.

AI adoption & cost: 5.00 USD per month per developer, billed annually. It covers AI adoption, activity, and cost metrics, but not the productivity-impact reporting in the higher AI plan.
Developer surveys: 9.00 USD per month per developer, billed annually. Includes developer experience surveys, Slack reminders, and survey benchmarks; choose it when team feedback is the priority.
Software capitalization: 18.00 USD per month per developer, billed annually. Includes capitalization, investment balance, initiatives, and focus summary, making it the focused option for cost reporting.
Productivity & AI impact: 23.00 USD per month per developer, billed annually. Adds AI adoption, impact, and costs alongside code, issue, and DORA metrics, benchmarks, and working agreements.
Standard: 45.00 USD per month per developer, billed annually. Bundles AI adoption and cost, developer surveys, software capitalization, and productivity and AI impact. It suits teams that need the full core set rather than buying capabilities separately.
Enterprise: 55.00 USD per month per developer, billed annually. Adds on-premise integrations, HR system integrations, and professional services to Standard, for organizations that need those connections or support.

A free trial is available. The per-developer basis means the recurring cost scales with team size, so the focused plans are the more measured choice when only one capability is needed.

Platforms

Swarmia is available on web and through an API. It offers SSO, but teams should confirm integration coverage and status for the systems their workflows depend on before choosing it.

Who it's for

Swarmia is aimed at software organizations from small startups to Fortune 500 companies. It is a strong fit for engineering leaders who want delivery measures alongside AI activity, confidential team feedback, or capitalization reporting. It is less compelling for small teams that need only one narrow metric set, or for organizations whose essential tools depend on integrations still marked beta or coming soon.

Pros and cons

Pros: It combines engineering, AI, survey, and capitalization views, helping teams relate delivery work to team experience and cost reporting.
Pros: The free plan accommodates companies with fewer than 10 software developers, providing an entry point before committing to paid per-developer plans.
Pros: SOC 2 Type 2 auditing, a GDPR-compatible DPA, and default Frankfurt-region storage address important governance and residency considerations.
Cons: The free plan excludes HRIS integrations and Swarmia AI, limiting its usefulness for teams that need those capabilities.
Cons: Several major capabilities sit in separate plans; Standard is 45.00 USD per month per developer billed annually, and Enterprise is 55.00 USD per month per developer billed annually.
Cons: Shortcut and GitHub Issues remain beta, while Asana and ClickUp are coming soon, which may rule it out for teams relying on those connections today.

Verdict

Choose Swarmia if your engineering organization wants one platform for delivery and reliability metrics, AI adoption and impact, developer feedback, and capitalization reporting. Its breadth and governance provisions are persuasive for teams that need those views together. Look elsewhere if your budget favors a narrower toolset or your stack depends on integrations that are still beta or coming soon.
