Overview

TIPP10 is a touch-typing tutor for people learning to type with all ten fingers, including beginners and children. Its online lessons pair a structured sequence with practice that responds to mistakes, while reports show changes in speed and accuracy.

The online version is the better fit for most learners: the downloadable desktop software is no longer maintained. TIPP10’s strength is focused, free practice; its aging desktop option and lack of direct support for free users limit its appeal for teams that need dependable assistance or a maintained desktop app.

Key features

Lessons that respond to errors

TIPP10 moves through 20 sequential lessons, introducing keyboard characters as learners progress. Mistyped letters receive more practice, which can help reinforce weak spots without requiring learners to choose each drill themselves. Guided lessons, adaptive practice, skill diagnostics, and personalized drills are listed capabilities.

Progress and custom practice

Error and speed statistics, lesson history, a trend diagram, and printable reports give learners several ways to follow progress. Users can create lessons, choose open material on subjects such as programming or legal texts, or load their own text for dictation. That flexibility suits learners who want structured instruction but also need practice around particular vocabulary.

Layouts and privacy

The interface and lessons are available in English and German. Listed layouts include QWERTY, German, Swiss, Neo, Dvorak, and RISTOME; the directory also records 39 keyboard layouts. The maker says TIPP10 has no advertising or tracking, while its online privacy policy describes session and persistent cookies and anonymized usage data. Online sign-in offers Google, Apple, and Microsoft, as well as free account registration.

Pricing

The free Tipp10 plan costs 0.00 USD per free and is described as a free typing tutor; donations are accepted. The pricing note also says “paid from €15/yr · 30-day trial,” but the product facts identify no paid plan or trial, and separately state that there is no free trial. For budget-conscious individual learners, the free tutor is the clear option; there is no confirmed paid tier to assess for added capacity or services.

Platforms

TIPP10 is available on web, Linux, macOS, and Windows. The maker recommends the online version because the downloadable software is no longer maintained. The desktop download is released under the GNU General Public License, but Mac support is limited: the listed download covers macOS 10.3 through 10.14 and does not work with macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.

The downloadable software includes offline mode, which may suit users who need practice without an internet connection. That benefit comes with the maintenance caveat, so users who prioritize a current version should choose the web app.

Who it's for

TIPP10 fits individual learners who want guided touch-typing practice, error-focused repetition, and a record of progress without a subscription. The maker describes it as suitable for beginners and children and says it has been used by schools and universities. Its custom-text exercises may also suit learners practicing programming or other specialized vocabulary.

Schools and companies looking for a managed teaching platform should be cautious: the homepage describes such a platform as available soon. Free-software users receive documentation, FAQs, bug reports, suggestions, and a contact form, but the maker says it cannot provide telephone or email assistance.

Pros and cons

Adaptive, sequential practice: the 20-lesson path introduces characters progressively and gives mistyped letters extra attention.
Useful progress records: statistics, history, a trend diagram, and printable reports make changes in speed and errors visible.
Flexible exercises: learners can create lessons or use their own text, rather than relying only on preset material.
Free to use: the free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, with donations accepted.
Unmaintained desktop software: the maker recommends the online version, and the macOS download does not support Catalina or later.
Limited direct support: free-software users cannot get telephone or email assistance.
