Overview

Outerbase AI is a database workspace built around EZQL, an assistant for turning natural-language questions into queries and visual outputs. It suits engineers, researchers, and analysts who want query help alongside charting and dashboards. Its strongest appeal is that schema-aware assistance spans the path from a question to a dashboard, but query quotas and database restrictions make plan choice consequential.

Key features

Queries grounded in your schema

EZQL can generate queries, charts, and dashboards from written requests while using the database’s current structure as context. That grounding is valuable when a team’s questions depend on its actual tables and relationships. The AI editor can also fix broken queries and optimize query results, so it has a role in refining existing work as well as creating a first draft.

Outerbase can create visualizations from datasets and produce charts within AI conversations. That keeps analysis and presentation close together. Trend detection and explanation is coming soon, so teams that need that capability now should not choose Outerbase on that basis.

Connections and data controls

Connections cover Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB, ClickHouse, Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake, Google BigQuery, and Amazon Redshift; integrations include DigitalOcean, Neon, Turso, and Cloudflare. That range is a practical advantage for teams working across different database systems.

Outerbase says it is SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA compliant. Controls include two-factor authentication, database-role access, AES/RSA encryption, SSH tunneling, and private AI models that are not trained on customer data. Customer data stays in the customer’s database, while Outerbase stores an encrypted schema copy for AI features. Self-hosting is restricted to Enterprise, which is a meaningful constraint for teams that require that deployment model but do not want a custom enterprise arrangement.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and allows up to 5 users, 1 base, 10 EZQL queries per month, 3 saved queries, and 1 dashboard. It is limited to transactional databases. That is enough to assess the workflow or support very light use, but the query and dashboard caps make it a poor fit for sustained team analysis.

Hobby costs 9.00 USD per month, per user, billed annually. It raises the ceiling to 10 users, unlimited bases, 100 EZQL queries per month, 25 saved queries, and 5 dashboards, while retaining the transactional-databases-only restriction. It suits a small team that needs more room than Free, but not teams requiring broader database coverage or heavier query volume.

Pro costs 30.00 USD per month, per user, billed annually. It includes unlimited users, bases, saved queries, and dashboards, up to 1000 EZQL queries, and access to all databases. This is the clear fit for teams needing the broader connection set and higher usage allowance; the annual per-user billing is a consideration as seats grow.

Enterprise uses custom pricing. It adds HIPAA and SOC 2 compliance, priority support with a dedicated team, custom AI models, prompt fine-tuning, private cloud deployments, audit trails, and activity logs. It is the relevant tier for organizations needing those enterprise controls or self-hosting, but custom pricing means buyers should weigh that requirement against their deployment and budget needs.

Platforms

Outerbase supports API, web, macOS, Windows, and self-hosted deployments. Dedicated desktop apps are available for Macs with M1 chips or newer and modern Windows devices. Because self-hosting is Enterprise-only, the platform list does not mean that every plan can be deployed on a team’s own infrastructure.

Who it's for

Outerbase is best for database-oriented teams that want schema-aware query assistance and a direct route from questions to charts and dashboards. Free and Hobby can suit evaluation or modest transactional-database workloads; Pro is better aligned with teams needing all supported databases and substantial saved-query or dashboard capacity. Teams that need self-hosting, private cloud deployment, custom models, or the enterprise compliance package should consider Enterprise. It is less compelling for teams whose needs exceed the lower tiers but cannot justify custom pricing, or whose deployment requirements rule out an Enterprise plan.

Pros and cons

Pro: Query generation, repair, and optimization sit alongside chart and dashboard creation, reducing the gap between asking a question and sharing a result.
Pro: Schema context and broad database connections make the assistant more relevant to teams working with established, varied data stacks.
Pro: The stated data-handling model keeps customer data in the customer’s database and uses an encrypted schema copy for AI capabilities.
Con: Free allows only 10 EZQL queries per month and one dashboard, limiting its usefulness beyond evaluation or occasional use.
Con: Free and Hobby are restricted to transactional databases, while all-database access starts at Pro.
Con: Self-hosting and private cloud deployments sit behind Enterprise, whose price is custom.
Con: Trend detection and explanation is not yet available.

Alternatives

For a wider comparison of tools in this category, see AI Database Assistants and AI SQL Generators.

Vanna AI is worth considering for teams seeking a freemium API or self-hosted option; its Explorer plan is 50.00 USD per month for 20 questions per day, admin features, API access, and same-day email support.

Wren AI offers a free open-source context engine for individual developers through CLI and MCP, without a UI; choose it when that developer-focused, UI-free format fits better than a database workspace.

Snowflake Feature Store is a paid, consumption-based option for readers specifically seeking Snowflake’s feature-store platform.

AskYourDatabase is a paid alternative with desktop, API, web, and self-hosted platforms; its Desktop Ultimate plan costs 49.00 USD per month, billed monthly per seat, with cancellation at any time and unlimited Claude Sonnet 5, Claude Haiku 4.5, and GPT-4.1.

BlazeSQL may suit teams looking for a paid AI data analyst with graphs and dashboards; its Pro plan is 150.00 USD per month and includes a desktop private database connection and knowledge base.

Snowflake CoCo is another paid option for readers comparing database AI tools.

Tursio is an enterprise product with a free-trial or installer request, so it is an alternative for buyers prepared to evaluate an enterprise offering without a public price or usage limits.

DataLine is a free, open-source project under GPL-3.0 for teams prioritizing an open-source option across desktop, web, Linux, or self-hosted platforms.

Verdict

Choose Outerbase AI if your team wants schema-aware query help that continues into charting and dashboards, and Pro’s database access and usage limits fit your workload. Its security controls and broad connections strengthen the case for teams already working across supported databases. Look elsewhere if you need self-hosting without Enterprise, more than the lower tiers’ transactional-only coverage, or a plan that avoids annual per-user billing at Hobby and Pro.
