Overview

TLDR This accepts article URLs, pasted text, and PDF, DOC, or DOCX files up to 25 MB. Its basic summaries reduce text to key sentences, while advanced AI summaries aim to make lengthy material quicker to understand and act on. That split is practical: occasional readers can stay with the unlimited basic tier, while people who rely on richer summaries need to budget around monthly quotas.

Article metadata extraction adds author, date, title, related images, and estimated reading time; keyword detection and relevance filtering help orient readers to a text’s central points. A distraction-reduced view removes ads, popups, and graphics. These features make the service broader than a plain summarizer, although the strongest usage limits apply to advanced summaries and paraphrasing.

Key features

Summaries, reading, and extraction

One-click browser extensions make webpage summarization convenient within a reading workflow. The service also accepts file uploads and offers PDF chat, letting users ask questions about research documents rather than relying only on a condensed summary. Metadata extraction and estimated reading time add useful context for articles and blog posts.

Paraphrasing and relevance

The paraphrasing tool rewrites text in different voices and styles, and the service describes its output as 100% plagiarism-free. That claim is not a substitute for checking a rewrite before publication. Relevance filtering is intended to suppress weak arguments and baseless speculation while surfacing important points; it may help with triage, but the source material remains worth reviewing when accuracy matters.

Privacy and support

TLDR This says it will not open uploaded files unless asked and will not sell personal information. Data is encrypted with SSL/TLS in transit and at rest; canceled-account data and deleted data from active accounts are purged within 30 days. Technical support is provided by email, and paid plans include priority support.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed monthly. It includes unlimited basic summaries, 10 advanced AI summaries and up to 10 paraphrases as one-time allowances, plus browser extensions, metadata extraction, keyword detection, and priority support. It is a sensible way to assess the workflow, but the one-time advanced-summary and paraphrase allowances are not recurring monthly quotas.

Starter costs 4.00 USD per month, billed monthly, and raises the quotas to 100 advanced summaries and up to 100 paraphrases per month. Professional costs 8.25 USD per month, billed monthly, for 500 of each per month. These fit individual users whose demand is predictable; the higher tier buys more capacity without changing the listed core tools.

Business costs 16.60 USD per month, billed monthly. It includes unlimited advanced summaries and up to 1000 paraphrases per month, alongside unlimited basic summaries and the same listed tools. This is the strongest fit for frequent summarization, though paraphrasing remains capped and the plan details do not establish team seats.

Pay as You Go offers on-demand summarizing or paraphrasing with no upfront commitment and custom pricing. It may suit users who prefer usage-based access, but there is no listed price to compare against the monthly plans. The pricing page also links to API Access through RapidAPI; API access is relevant to builders, though the plan quotas above do not define API terms.

Platforms

TLDR This is available on the web, through browser extensions, and via API access. That combination covers individual reading and potential integration into a software stack, while the provided plan details focus on the consumer summarization and paraphrasing quotas.

Who it's for

Students, researchers, journalists, writers, teachers, and other readers facing lengthy content can use TLDR This to extract key points before deciding what deserves a full read. PDF chat makes it particularly relevant when working with research documents. Teams that need predictable, high-volume advanced summaries may prefer Business; users who need only occasional article summaries can begin with Free. It is less compelling when paraphrasing must be high-volume or when a buyer needs clearly defined API pricing and usage terms.

Pros and cons

Pro: Unlimited basic summaries on every listed monthly plan make routine key-sentence summaries accessible without consuming an advanced-summary quota.
Pro: Article URLs, text, and common document uploads are supported, with a 25 MB upload ceiling.
Pro: Metadata extraction, keyword detection, a distraction-reduced view, and PDF chat extend the service beyond summary generation.
Con: The Free plan’s 10 advanced summaries and up to 10 paraphrases are one-time allowances, limiting its usefulness for sustained advanced work.
Con: Even Business caps paraphrases at 1000 per month, and the listed plan information does not define seats for teams.
Con: Pay as You Go has no upfront commitment, but its custom pricing makes cost comparison difficult.

Alternatives

Text Summarization Software and AI Summarizers are broader directories for comparing options. Choose AskYourPDF when document-oriented chat and its stated Premium allowance of 2500 pages per document and 50 documents per day matter more. Aginsi is an alternative with a free Margin plan that includes 10 monthly summaries for articles and PDFs, key-point highlights, and citations kept.

ChatPDF is another document-analysis option, with a free allowance of two documents per day. SMMRY offers a free plan with 10 summaries for texts, articles, and webpages, making it a narrower alternative for users focused on standard summarization. Kagi Summarize is a paid alternative with a trial that includes 100 total searches and 100 AI interactions with standard models.

Scholarcy offers a free article summarizer capped at 10 summaries, with flashcard export one at a time. genei has a free Chrome extension for one-click webpage summaries and a Basic plan at 5.49 USD per month for PDF and webpage import. PaperPilot is an extension-based alternative with five free summaries per month across 14 supported sites.

Verdict

TLDR This is a good fit for readers who want one place for basic summaries, article metadata, distraction-reduced reading, and PDF questions. Its unlimited basic summaries make the free tier useful beyond a brief trial, while paid plans provide clear monthly allowances for advanced summaries. Look elsewhere if your workflow depends on uncapped paraphrasing, defined team seats, or transparent API pricing.
