Overview

PDFQuiz turns uploaded documents into interactive quizzes, making it a strong fit for learners, educators and teams that build study or training materials from existing files. Its range of question formats and study options is useful, but sustained use depends on paid-plan quotas, and API access sits at the top tier.

Key features

PDFQuiz accepts 16 file formats, including office documents, images and text, and uses OCR to read scans and photos. That makes it more flexible than a PDF-only workflow, though the free plan caps each quiz at 20 document pages. Six question types cover single choice, multiple answer, true or false, fill in the blank, matching and open ended; Pro is required for open-ended questions. Paid plans can generate quizzes in a selected language from a list of more than 180.

Quizzes can be taken online and questions reviewed as flashcards. Depending on plan, users can download quizzes and results as PDFs or export quizzes to Anki. Pro adds quiz editing, manual quiz creation, timers and invitation links, with up to 500 invitations per month. Elite includes API access and Zapier integration. The API supports retrieving invitees and their scores with an account API token, a practical fit for teams connecting quiz results to other workflows.

PDFQuiz says it uses SSL encryption, access controls, regular security updates and encrypted password storage. Files, quizzes and results remain while the account exists; users can request deletion. Its privacy policy states adherence to the Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR, Singapore's PDPA 2012 and California's CCPA 2020.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free. Without an account, users can create quizzes with 10 questions; a free account allows three quizzes of 10 questions each. Both are limited to 20 document pages per quiz, with 16 formats, up to 10 files per upload and a 20 MB cap per file. This is enough for a small trial, not a recurring course or team workflow.

Plus costs 84.00 USD per year, billed $84 /year. It allows up to 1,000,000 characters per month and unlimited quizzes within that allowance, with PDF downloads, Anki export and up to 300 questions per quiz. It suits regular individual study or quiz creation when invitations and assessment controls are unnecessary.

Pro costs 228.00 USD per year, billed $228 /year. Its 3,500,000-character monthly allowance and up to 500 invitations per month support more frequent assessment, while editing, timers and open-ended questions add control. Elite costs 38.00 USD per year, billed $456 /year. It raises the allowance to 8,500,000 characters and invitations to 1,500 monthly, and adds premium support, API access, Zapier integration, custom branding and whitelabel mode. Those integrations and larger quotas make it the relevant tier for operational workflows, but the published price and billed annual amount differ, so buyers should account for the stated $456 annual bill.

Platforms

PDFQuiz is available on web and through an API. The API is an Elite feature, so API-minded teams cannot use the lower plans for that integration path.

Who it's for

PDFQuiz is best suited to students and educators converting existing documents into practice material, and to trainers, recruiters or compliance teams that need quiz invitations and assessment tools. It is less suitable for organizations needing API access on a lower-cost plan or workloads that exceed the monthly character and invitation allowances.

Pros and cons

Pros: OCR and 16 upload formats accommodate scans and varied source files; six question types and flashcards support different study and assessment styles; Plus includes Anki and PDF exports.
Cons: The free account stops at three short quizzes; open-ended questions and assessment controls require Pro; API access and Zapier require Elite; uploaded content remains in the account until deletion is requested.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see AI Quiz Generators. Choose QuizFlight instead if mobile apps matter; it supports Android and iOS and offers a free session for up to 20 participants, then up to five. IntelliAssess is another web-based freemium option, with a free plan for up to 25 students and model-specific question allowances. Quizbot offers Android and iOS apps and a free allowance of 50 questions per month across one notebook and up to two sources. QuizFlex AI is a web alternative whose Plus plan adds voice notes and transcription alongside 2M monthly credits. Dende offers a free plan with one file upload and limited questions, while its Premium plan provides unlimited uploads and all question types. PDFNoob is a free alternative spanning desktop and mobile platforms. QuizPilot offers free quiz creation on iOS and web. SimpleQuizMaker has a free tier with five quiz generations per month, up to 10 questions per quiz and unlimited student submissions.

Verdict

Choose PDFQuiz when your study or training content already lives in documents and you want OCR, varied quiz formats and a route from personal study to managed invitations and API workflows. Its main trade-off is tiering: the free plan is sharply capped, and the features that make it useful for team operations require Pro or Elite.
