Overview

ProProfs Quiz Maker builds scored and personality quizzes, exams, and assessments for learning, hiring, and lead generation. It is best suited to educators and teams that want authoring, distribution, and reporting in one product, with enough flexibility for varied assessment formats. Its broad toolkit comes with a sharp trade-off for free users: only eight quiz questions, plus four lead fields.

Key features

More than 20 question types include multiple-choice, matching, and hotspot questions, while branching logic lets an assessment follow different paths. Scoring options range from automatic and partial scoring to custom rules, manual grading, AI grading, bonus points, and negative marking. That range can accommodate simple checks and more structured exams, but teams should decide how much human review their scoring model requires, particularly for essay responses.

AI tools can draft quizzes and questions, rewrite questions, suggest feedback, and grade essays against rubrics. The advertised library of more than 1,000,000 questions and templates offers authors material to adapt rather than requiring every assessment to start from a blank page. Quiz creation in more than 70 languages broadens its fit for multilingual audiences.

Reports cover individual, group, and cohort results, completion status, and scores, with exports to Excel, CSV, and PDF. These views are useful for tracking both learner-level outcomes and group progress. Distribution includes direct links, website embeds, QR codes, email invitations, a learner dashboard, and an online classroom; quizzes work on mobile devices. Certificates are supported.

For control over access, ProProfs offers password protection, unique learner logins, role-based permissions, IP restrictions, single sign-on, and options to disable printing or copying. Proctoring can require a taker's screen, webcam, and microphone, with recordings in proctoring logs. The features page describes the product as GDPR compliant and says its cloud infrastructure is hosted with Amazon and IBM. Listed integrations include Mailchimp, Salesforce, WordPress, SCORM, Tin Can API, ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, iContact, Keap, HubSpot, Campaign Monitor, and Google Sheets. Human support is offered by phone, chat, and email.

Pricing

The free plan is billed forever free and allows 12 total fields—eight quiz questions and four lead fields—with 90-day report history. It is suitable for small quizzes or a limited trial of the workflow, but the question cap and short history window constrain ongoing assessment programs. A free trial is also offered.

Paid plans use different billing units, so the entry price alone does not show the likely cost for every team:

School & District: $0.25 per student/month, billed $3.00 annually, with custom student capacity. This is the lowest-cost listed route for school-scale use, with capacity tailored to the institution.
Business Complete Elite: $0.83 per active quiz taker/month, billed $9.96 annually; annual plans only, with unlimited quiz takers. It suits organizations whose active audience varies or grows, though the annual commitment matters.
Certifications & Exams: $1.00 per candidate/month, billed $12 annually; annual plans only and a minimum of 100 candidates/month. That minimum makes it a poor fit for occasional or low-volume certification programs.
K-12 Teacher: $4.00 per teacher/month, billed $48.00 annually, with a maximum of 150 students. It is aimed at an individual teacher rather than a larger school deployment.
Essentials: $19.99 per month, billed $239.88 annually per month, priced per 100 active quiz takers/month and capped at 300 active quiz takers/month. It fits smaller business audiences within that ceiling.
Business: $39.99 per month, billed $479.88 annually per month, priced per 100 active quiz takers/month and capped at 500 active quiz takers/month. It raises the audience ceiling over Essentials, but remains limited to 500 active quiz takers/month.

The listed paid starting price is $0.25/mo (annual), but seat and audience measures differ by plan. Buyers should match the relevant student, teacher, candidate, or active-quiz-taker unit to expected usage before comparing totals.

Platforms

ProProfs is available on the web and lists an API platform. Its mobile-compatible quizzes and multiple publishing channels support distribution to learners, while the API listing may matter to teams assessing stack fit.

Who it's for

Educators, training teams, hiring organizations, and lead-generation teams can use the same product for different assessment purposes. It is particularly compelling when varied question formats, branching, reports, and controlled exam access matter together. Teams needing long free-plan assessments, a longer report history, or pricing based on a different usage pattern should weigh those constraints before committing.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad authoring options, branching, and flexible scoring make it suitable for more than basic multiple-choice quizzes.
Pro: AI assistance, a large advertised question and template library, and multilingual quiz creation give authors several ways to speed preparation.
Pro: Individual, group, and cohort reporting plus several export formats support review beyond a single overall score.
Pro: Access controls and recorded proctoring options address teams that need more oversight for exams.
Con: The free plan's eight-question allowance and 90-day report history make it unsuitable for many sustained or full-length programs.
Con: Plan pricing is measured in different units and includes audience caps or annual-only terms on several options, so the lowest advertised rate may not map directly to a buyer's actual usage.

Alternatives

FlexiQuiz is worth considering when a free plan with unlimited quizzes and up to 10 questions per quiz is more useful than ProProfs' eight-question limit; its free tier also caps use at 20 responses per month and 20 responses per quiz.

SpeedExam may suit exam-focused buyers who can work within a free allowance of 25 exam attempts per month, 2,000 questions, and 100 MB of storage.

TestGorilla is an alternative for hiring teams looking for a free tier with 10 credits each month, five essential skills tests, and one full-access seat.

ClassMarker is another freemium assessment option with a free trial; its Professional 2 plan includes up to 1,000 credits per month, AI exam proctoring, and custom certificates.

iMocha is a paid alternative with a limited-usage, 15-day free trial.

TestInvite is a paid-first option with a Starter plan at $900.00 USD per year, including 500 testing credits, 250 questions, five tests, and one teammate.

Crowdpurr is a web-based alternative whose free Basic plan supports 20 participants, 15 questions, and three simultaneous experiences.

Testportal offers a free EDU plan with 100 results storage, advanced test configuration, advanced reporting, and additional user accounts.

Verdict

ProProfs Quiz Maker is a strong choice for educators and teams that need flexible quiz authoring, reporting, distribution, and access controls in one web product. Its main case is breadth: it spans quizzes, exams, hiring, and lead generation, with AI tools and a substantial format range. Look elsewhere if the free tier must support full-length assessments or if plan-specific audience limits and annual terms do not fit your usage.
