Overview

TotalCloud covers AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure through a shared license, control plane, and TruRisk score. Its security domains include CSPM, CWPP, CIEM, CDR, Kubernetes and container security, infrastructure as code, SaaS posture, data security, and AI security. That span can reduce the number of separate tools a multi-cloud team must coordinate; it may be more platform than necessary for buyers focused on one narrow problem.

TruRisk ranks verified, attackable exposures using exploitability, threat intelligence, asset criticality, and runtime context. FlexScan supports agentless, agent-based, network, and pipeline scanning, giving teams several routes to discover cloud assets. Qualys says assessment of cloud resources, including transient and ephemeral resources, can take under 10 minutes and that its scanning methods reach up to 99.99966% accuracy. Those are vendor claims, but they make rapid assessment and prioritization central parts of the platform's case.

Key features

Multi-method scanning: FlexScan's four scanning modes can accommodate varied cloud environments and workflows. Teams should weigh that flexibility against the operational work of deciding which mode suits each asset and pipeline.
Automated remediation: QFlow offers more than 300 automated playbooks and connects with ServiceNow, Jira, SIEM, and SOAR platforms. This is useful for teams looking to route findings into existing response processes, rather than treating detection as the end of the workflow.
SaaS posture management: TotalCloud covers Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Zoom, and Google Workspace. This extends its reach beyond cloud infrastructure for teams that want SaaS posture alongside workload and application coverage.
Compliance and integrations: Pre-built policy frameworks cover CIS, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, NIST, and other standards. Integrations include GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Bamboo, Azure DevOps, VSCode, Jira, and ServiceNow, supporting teams that need security checks connected to development and service workflows.
Response and support: Response actions include email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty, and Jira tickets. Subscriptions include 24/7/365 phone and online customer and technical support, plus free training and certification.

TotalCloud has hybrid deployment, container, serverless, and Kubernetes protection, with supported host operating systems including CentOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Ubuntu. Qualys has announced FedRAMP High authorization for TotalCloud CNAPP, a relevant credential for government cloud security and compliance requirements.

Pricing

The TotalCloud Free license costs 0.00 USD per free and is limited by API calls for control evaluation. That makes it a way to evaluate controls, not an unrestricted free deployment; teams should check whether the API allowance is sufficient for their assessment.

The Qualys Cloud Platform subscription has custom pricing, which varies by Cloud Platform Apps, network addresses (IPs), web applications, and user licenses. This scope-based model may accommodate different deployments, but buyers need a quote to determine total cost and should clarify which licensed components and quantities their use case requires. A 30-day trial is also offered.

Platforms

TotalCloud is available through API and web access and supports AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Its hybrid deployment model and support for containers, serverless workloads, and Kubernetes suit organizations with mixed cloud and container estates rather than teams tied to a single infrastructure type.

Who it's for

TotalCloud is a strong fit for security teams managing several cloud providers, containers, SaaS applications, and development workflows that want shared exposure prioritization and automated response. Its range of scanning modes, compliance frameworks, and integrations is most relevant where teams can put that breadth to work. Organizations seeking only one focused security capability, or needing firm pricing before evaluation, may prefer a narrower product with a simpler buying decision.

Pros and cons

Pro — Broad multi-cloud coverage: AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI share a license, control plane, and TruRisk score, giving multi-cloud teams a common operating view.
Pro — Multiple discovery and response paths: Four scanning modes and more than 300 QFlow playbooks connect asset discovery to remediation options.
Pro — Development and compliance reach: Integrations across source control, CI/CD, and service tools, alongside established policy frameworks, support teams embedding security in existing processes.
Con — Subscription cost requires scoping: Pricing varies with apps, IPs, web applications, and user licenses, so buyers cannot assess full cost from a single published subscription price.
Con — Free license has an evaluation cap: Limited API calls may constrain the control evaluation it is intended to support.

Alternatives

For teams considering other cloud security products, Cloud Workload Protection Platforms, Cloud-Native Application Protection Platforms, Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management Software, Cloud Security Posture Management Software, Cloud Security Platforms, and Cloud Vulnerability Scanners provide category starting points.

Palo Alto Networks Cortex Cloud API Security is a paid API, Linux, and web option to consider when those platforms are the priority.
SentinelOne Singularity Cloud Security has paid, per-endpoint plans with 90-day or 14-day data retention; compare those retention terms if they matter to your evaluation.
Sysdig Secure bases licensing on hosts, including compute instances for CSPM, making it worth considering when host-count licensing better matches your environment.
Amazon GuardDuty is a pay-as-you-go option whose charges vary with analyzed data and AWS Region, and it offers a free trial. It may fit buyers looking for usage-based billing rather than a platform subscription.
Bitdefender Total Security is a 59.99 USD per year individual plan for five devices and one account, a different fit for consumers seeking device security rather than cloud-native coverage.
AccuKnox offers a free plan and custom quotes, with pay-as-you-go and module or bundle options; consider it when that purchasing model is preferable.
ARMO Platform has a free plan and is built around Kubescape, an official CNCF project maintained by ARMO and used as its data engine.
Calico Cloud is a freemium alternative for readers comparing other options.

Verdict

Choose Qualys TotalCloud if your team needs a unified approach to security across multiple clouds, containers, SaaS, and application workflows, especially when shared risk prioritization and automated remediation matter. Its coverage and integrations are the strongest reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if you need one specialized capability, or if the API cap on the free license and custom subscription pricing make evaluation and budgeting harder than your team can accept.
