Overview

RCS-Box combines two-way messaging and verified senders with delivery analytics and webhook support. API access makes it a fit for teams integrating messaging into their own systems, rather than for users seeking a standalone messaging tool. The service is hosted in the EU and has a German contract partner, relevant considerations for teams choosing where their messaging infrastructure operates.

Key features

Messages can include suggested replies, rich cards, carousels and XL messages, while video and image links are unfurled automatically. That range gives product teams more options for presenting content than text alone. XL messages are included in every Box plan from Skizze onward and count as one conversation, making them a predictable choice for teams that want the larger format.

Webhooks cover incoming messages and opt-in and opt-out events. Forwarded webhooks carry a lowercase hexadecimal HMAC-SHA256 signature derived from the tenant API key, so an integration can validate their authenticity. API requests authenticate with a tenant-specific 64-character hexadecimal key, passed as a Bearer token or in an X-API-Key header.

Dedicated keys provide brand-level tenant isolation. Each tenant also has a configurable country allowlist, defaulting to Germany and the +49 prefix; teams targeting other countries should configure it accordingly. RCS-Box automatically tracks STOP and START blacklist status per agent, reducing the need to handle those states separately in application logic.

Plans support standard or newsletter mode. Newsletter billing is based on active recipients per month, so teams should choose the mode that matches their messaging pattern and audience accounting.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 EUR per free and allows 100 sessions per calendar month. It is useful for a small proof of concept, but the fixed monthly cap limits it as a production allowance.

Skizze costs 49.00 EUR per month, billed monthly, and includes XL Messages with standard or newsletter mode. Atelier costs 249.00 EUR per month, billed monthly, and Manufaktur costs 999.00 EUR per month, billed monthly; both list the same XL message and mode inclusions. These published plan details do not distinguish the higher tiers by quota or other features, so teams should not assume which tier fits their volume from price alone. Skizze is the clearest paid entry point for teams needing XL messages, while the higher monthly commitments need a reason grounded in their own requirements.

Platforms

RCS-Box is available through API and web. Its API focus makes it a natural fit for software teams integrating messaging into an existing stack.

Who it's for

Development teams, CTOs and tech leads at startups, scale-ups and enterprise technology units are the stated audience. It is especially relevant to teams serving multiple brands that need tenant-specific credentials, country controls and signed event callbacks. It is less suited to teams that need a generous free quota or a clearly differentiated public plan ladder.

Pros and cons

Pros: Rich cards, carousels, suggested text and automatic media unfurling give teams several RCS presentation options.
Pros: Tenant-specific keys, brand isolation, country allowlists and signed webhooks provide useful controls for multi-brand integrations.
Pros: Automatic STOP and START handling addresses opt-out state per agent.
Cons: The free plan stops at 100 sessions per calendar month, limiting its value beyond early evaluation.
Cons: Atelier and Manufaktur cost substantially more than Skizze, but their distinguishing allowances are not apparent from the plan inclusions.

Alternatives

RCS Messaging Platforms is the broader category starting point for comparing options. Choose Bandwidth Messaging API if a paid API with a free trial and per-message U.S. SMS outbound pricing better suits the use case. SimplyRCS is worth considering for its freemium model and pay-as-you-go option, with messaging at published rates. Gupshup is another paid API option; its messaging fee is 0.001 USD per message, with WhatsApp fees billed at actuals.

Orbit by Devotel offers a freemium API and self-hosted platform with pre-pay credits and no monthly fee or minimums on its pay-as-you-go plan. M-Target RCS for Business is another paid RCS option. For carrier-rate billing whose price depends on destination region and conversational or non-conversational category, consider Google RCS for Business. 360dialog is a paid API alternative with a 59.00 USD per month Regular plan that includes human support and integrations. LINK Mobility RCS is an alternative with pricing that varies by message type, including a 24-hour RCS Conversation option.

Verdict

Choose RCS-Box if your team is building Google RCS messaging into a multi-brand product and values tenant isolation, signed webhooks, opt-out handling and EU hosting. Its main advantage is the combination of rich message formats and integration controls; the main reason to look elsewhere is the small free cap and the lack of clear differentiation among the higher-priced tiers.
