Overview

Save My Exams is a revision and exam-practice platform for students working toward GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, IB, AP, AS and O Level qualifications, with test-building tools for teachers. It is strongest for learners who want syllabus-focused materials and structured practice together, rather than a standalone notes library.

Its blend of teacher-authored resources, AI study tools and targeted practice is compelling, but course coverage varies and the paid tiers are billed annually even when priced monthly.

Key features

The library combines revision notes, exam questions and answers, past papers, mark schemes, flashcards and downloadable PDFs. Qualified teachers and examiners write the notes, questions and mark schemes, and at least two Curriculum Experts review content before publication. Resources are matched to exam-board specifications wherever possible, though students should confirm their subject and qualification are covered before making the platform their primary revision resource.

Smart Mark, Revision Note Chat, Exam Question Chat, Guided Study and Guided Practice bring AI-assisted study into the revision workflow. Target Tests and strengths-and-weaknesses analysis steer students toward areas needing more work, while the Study Planner helps organise revision. The combination is more useful to learners who benefit from a guided routine than to those who only need occasional reference material.

Teachers can build tests from past exam and expert-written questions, filtering by topic and difficulty. This adds classroom utility, especially for setting focused practice, though the full Test Builder is reserved for Premium.

Free accounts can download past papers and mark schemes, but model answers cannot be downloaded or edited. That distinction matters for students who want to keep answer materials offline or annotate them. Offline access is supported, but the mobile app experience is not: despite Android and iOS appearing among the platform facts, mobile apps are marked unavailable.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and provides selected features and a limited set of revision materials. It is a sensible way to check subject coverage, but its caps make it a constrained choice for sustained preparation.

Essential costs 8.00 USD per month, billed at $96 per year. It includes Basic Test Builder, revision notes, exam questions, mock exams and Smart Chat. This is the more restrained paid option for students who want core materials and basic test creation without the full tracking and practice toolkit.

Premium costs 16.00 USD per month, billed at $192 per year. It adds full Test Builder, downloads, the strengths-and-weaknesses tracker, answer feedback and guided practice to everything in Essential. Students who will use those feedback and practice features have a clearer reason to pay the higher annual commitment; those seeking notes and questions alone may not need the upgrade.

Premium monthly, Premium three-monthly and Premium annual options provide full access to Premium resources, but their prices are custom pricing. A free trial is offered. No seat or usage quotas are provided, so team capacity cannot be judged from the plan terms.

Platforms

Save My Exams is available on the web and listed for Android and iOS, with offline access supported. Mobile apps are marked unavailable, so students should not assume dedicated app support. Support is available by email Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm UK time.

Who it's for

Students preparing for the covered school and pre-university exams are the natural audience, particularly those who want practice targeted to weak topics rather than a static set of study guides. Teachers may also find value in assembling topic- and difficulty-filtered tests. It is a less certain fit when the required course is outside its variable coverage or when a learner needs editable model answers.

Pros and cons

Pros: Notes, questions, past papers, flashcards and AI-assisted practice sit in one revision platform, reducing the need to move between separate study resources.
Pros: Qualified teacher and examiner authorship, followed by review from at least two Curriculum Experts, gives the materials a clear quality-control process.
Pros: Test Builder serves teachers as well as students, with question selection by topic and difficulty.
Cons: Coverage varies by subject and qualification, so it may not cover every learner's exam specification.
Cons: Free users cannot download or edit model answers, limiting offline and annotation workflows.
Cons: Essential and Premium prices shown monthly are billed annually, making the commitment larger than the monthly figure suggests.

Alternatives

SparkNotes is a better fit for readers focused on study guides: its free plan includes all study guides without sign-up, while SparkNotes PLUS Monthly costs 5.99 USD per month plus tax for ad-free access and PLUS study tools.

BBC Bitesize suits learners seeking a free alternative across Android, iOS and web; personalised learning requires a free BBC account.

Cognito is worth considering for web-based revision when uncapped flashcards and exam questions matter: Cognito Pro costs 9.99 GBP per month and removes weekly caps.

Cram is the more focused option for flashcards, with custom card creation, hints, image uploads, access to more than seven million sets and sync across mobile and desktop on its free plan.

LitCharts is a better match for literature analysis; its free account supports title requests, notifications for new titles, and saved highlights and notes.

MathsGenie is an alternative for maths practice across subjects and exam boards, with past papers and mark schemes in its free plan, limited to 20 energy a week.

Revision Village may suit students who want a course-specific revision option with a free subset of topics, community access, mobile app access and support for one course.

ZNotes is a free-oriented alternative built around syllabus-aligned notes, chapter quizzes and a limited monthly allowance of AI Tutor prompts and AI Study Planner uses.

For broader comparisons, see study guide websites, study planner apps and exam prep apps.

Verdict

Save My Exams is a strong choice for students whose qualification is covered and who want notes, exam practice and guided feedback in a single revision service; teachers also gain a useful test-building workflow. Its main trade-offs are variable course coverage, restricted model-answer downloads and annual billing on the clearly priced paid plans. Check the relevant specification first, then choose it if the targeted practice justifies the commitment.
