Overview

Subsplash Church App gives churches a branded place to bring together ministry content, communication, giving, and participation. It suits organizations seeking a connected church app and media offering rather than a standalone, low-cost app. The trade-off is custom pricing tied to church size, selected features, and usage limits.

Subsplash was formed in 2005 by Tim and Kristy Turner and says it created its first church apps in 2009. Its wider platform can combine websites, media hosting, live streaming, giving, management, and messaging, which can simplify the member-facing experience for churches that want those services under one roof.

Key features

The native media player supports live streams and on-demand video, audio, and podcasts. Sermon libraries, scheduled broadcasts, viewer chat, and a website player embed make the media useful both inside and outside the app. Recording storage is limited, so churches with large archives should consider that constraint when planning their media workflow.

Bible reading plans, audio Bibles, scripture sharing and tagging, and fill-in sermon notes extend the app beyond a sermon catalogue. Profiles, personalized media suggestions, events, forms, and push notifications give churches several ways to keep members connected between services.

Group messaging keeps member conversations within the church app, avoiding the need for a separate messaging app. Subsplash says messaging traffic uses TLS/SSL and its servers are in data centers with ISO 27001 and SOC 1, 2, and 3 certifications; it does not offer end-to-end encryption. That distinction matters to churches whose messaging policy requires end-to-end protection.

Members can give through the app, and the broader giving tools include recurring and one-time gifts, campaign pages, tax receipts, text-to-give, and a donor portal. Subsplash Giving has no monthly charge or setup cost, but card and ACH processing fees apply. Volunteer tools let members accept or decline requests, set availability, and view pending requests, while event and check-in functions support registration, attendance, and family-linked check-in workflows.

Churches can also use branded TV apps for Google TV, Fire TV, Roku, and Apple TV, and church media can be used with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The support directory includes integrations or resources for Rock RMS, Planning Center, Breeze, Zapier, and StudioC. A dedicated onboarding specialist helps with app creation, content, and app-store publishing; advertised support also includes a dedicated client success manager, a 24/7 AI assistant, webinars, and on-demand classes.

Pricing

Subsplash Giving costs $0.00 USD per month, billed at $0/mo, with no setup costs. Card and ACH processing fees still apply, so this removes the monthly platform charge for giving but not transaction costs.

Subsplash One uses custom pricing based on church size and usage. It includes websites, media hosting, custom mobile and TV apps, live streaming, giving, and management and messaging features. It is the broadest fit for a church seeking a unified package, but organizations need a sales quote to assess its cost against their needs.

Enterprise uses custom pricing through sales for a tailored package. It includes Subsplash One features, custom API integrations, a multi-campus app, and a Rock RMS account integration and plugin. This is the relevant tier for multi-campus organizations or teams requiring custom API work and Rock RMS integration; smaller churches without those needs may not require its additional scope.

The company says pricing varies with organization size, selected features, and usage limits. There is a free plan, but the paid app package pricing is not fixed, so churches should request a quote that spells out included features and applicable limits before committing.

Platforms

The app supports Android, iOS, and web. App-store publishing is vendor-managed, with an onboarding specialist helping teams prepare and publish their app. Branded TV apps extend delivery to Google TV, Fire TV, Roku, and Apple TV; media can also be used with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Who it's for

Subsplash is a strong fit for churches that want branded mobile and TV destinations alongside media, giving, messaging, and ministry participation tools. Its Bible features, volunteer scheduling, event support, and check-in capabilities make it useful for organizations aiming to connect content with member activity. Churches that need end-to-end encrypted group messaging, have extensive recording archives, or want a fixed-price app should weigh those constraints carefully.

Pros and cons

Pros: A broad church-specific package combines media, Bible tools, messaging, giving, events, and engagement in branded apps.
Pros: Dedicated onboarding and vendor-managed app-store publishing support teams through app setup and release.
Pros: Subsplash Giving has no monthly charge or setup cost, while card and ACH processing fees still apply.
Cons: Custom pricing depends on size, features, and usage limits, making it harder to judge cost without a sales quote.
Cons: Messaging lacks end-to-end encryption, which may not meet some churches' communication requirements.
Cons: Recording storage is limited, a drawback for churches maintaining a large media archive.

Alternatives

ChurchPlan is worth considering when a free forever plan and an included personalized church mobile app matter most: its Essentials plan is free and includes unlimited members, online giving, automated tax receipts, and donation links and QR codes.

Pushpay is an alternative for churches prioritizing donor development, campaign pledging, enhanced communication and automation, or integrations and API capabilities. Appy Pie Church App Maker offers a free plan for unlimited edits and preview, with member-only rollout; store publishing requires a paid plan, making it a fit for teams wanting to preview before paying. Choicely Church App offers a free tier with public mobile apps, unlimited collaborators, push notifications, and a capped credit allowance.
