Overview

Suno is a music-making platform for turning text prompts and uploaded audio into songs, with tools to edit and separate the results. It suits creators who want to move from a quick idea toward a more developed track in one service. Its breadth is compelling, but commercial use and meaningful download capacity require a paid plan.

Key features

Text prompts can produce complete songs in under a minute, and Suno can generate vocals as well as accept audio uploads. That makes it useful for developing an idea from either a written concept or source audio; free users can upload up to eight minutes, while Premier raises that limit to 30 minutes.

Stem separation produces vocal and instrument stems, giving users material to work with beyond a finished mix. Premier adds three types of stem separation. Multitrack editing and MIDI sequencing extend Suno into production work, while Premier's Suno Studio adds MIDI, effects, and automation. Pro and Premier subscribers can also create custom models from their own recordings, a more tailored option for users willing to pay.

Audio exports include MP3 and WAV, and users can share music with audiences from a small circle to millions of fans. The listed maximum track length is eight minutes. Suno supports web and mobile use, with Android and iOS listed as platforms.

Pricing

The Free plan costs $0 per month and provides 50 credits per day, with up to 10 songs per day and an eight-minute audio upload limit. It requires no credit card, but it has no commercial rights or monthly song downloads. That makes it a useful way to explore song creation, not a fit for releasing work commercially.

Pro costs $8 per month, with taxes calculated at checkout. It includes 2,500 credits and 20 song downloads per month, allows up to 10 songs at once, and retains the eight-minute upload limit. Paid subscribers can use songs in videos, albums, and other projects, so Pro suits creators who need commercial rights and a moderate monthly output.

Premier costs $24 per month, with taxes calculated at checkout. It includes 10,000 credits and 60 song downloads per month, allows up to 10 songs at once, and raises audio uploads to 30 minutes. It also unlocks every feature, including Suno Studio and three types of stem separation. This is the stronger fit for users who need higher capacity and more production tools, though its higher monthly cost is difficult to justify for occasional use.

Both paid plans are available at a 20% discount with annual billing. Subscription credits do not carry over between days or months, so unused capacity is lost at the reset. Purchased top-up credits do not expire, but require an active subscription.

Platforms

Suno supports web and mobile use, with Android and iOS listed as platforms. That coverage suits creators moving between browser and phone workflows; no other platform is listed.

Who it's for

Suno is a good fit for creators who want to generate songs quickly, work with vocals and uploaded audio, and continue into editing or stem separation. Pro is the practical starting point for commercial projects with moderate download needs; Premier is better suited to heavier use and creators who need its expanded upload allowance and studio tools. People who only want a limited personal sketching tool may find the paid capacity unnecessary.

Pros and cons

Pro: Prompt-to-song creation takes under a minute, making it useful for quickly turning an idea into a complete song.
Pro: Editing, MIDI sequencing, and stem separation offer a route from generation into further production.
Pro: Pro and Premier grant commercial rights, and paid plans provide defined monthly credit and download allowances.
Con: Free use excludes commercial rights and monthly song downloads, limiting its role in release workflows.
Con: Credits expire at the daily or monthly reset rather than rolling over, which penalizes irregular use.
Con: The eight-minute maximum track length may constrain users working on longer pieces.

Alternatives

For chord-and-melody composition rather than generated songs, Hookpad offers chords, melody, Smart Guides, and unlimited cloud saves on its free plan, with advanced features limited to one-minute previews. Chordbot is a lower-cost mobile option for chord-based songwriting: its $4.99 one-time Pro app enables saving and exporting, which the free Lite version disables.

Song Cage is worth considering for a broader songwriting workflow across web, desktop, and mobile, with its free plan centered on a one-song web app. Songkeeper Studio offers a focused mobile writing workflow, with a free allowance of five songs and a Pro plan at $0.99 per month. SongSmith.io provides web-based writing, collaboration, and reference tools, with up to five songs on its free plan.

Nitesong is a web-based option with three free songs and five notation editors. Songzap is an iOS and macOS alternative with a four-track recorder, arrangement editor, and AI Beats Designer in its free plan. Zoundroom is a cross-platform collaboration option whose free plan supports two active projects and sharing with up to two artists.

Verdict

Choose Suno if you want prompt-based song generation that can lead into editing, stem work, and commercial use under a paid plan. Its main advantage is that breadth in one workflow; look elsewhere if you need credits to roll over, more than eight minutes per track, or a free commercial-use tier.
