Overview

Rather than stopping at remote shells, Termalin brings SSH sessions, file management, database connections and agent access together. Browser-style tabs, a hosts sidebar, snippets and session restoration with scrollback make it a practical environment for recurring remote work. If your needs are limited to a terminal, this broader client may be more than you need.

The browser cabinet extends terminal, SFTP, FTP and S3 browsing, and recording replay, to laptops, phones and tablets without installing the app. For private servers, the Connector dials out, avoiding an inbound port; it uses short-lived certificates and keeps the agent blind to SSH bytes.

Vault data is encrypted on-device before synchronization, with a master-password-derived PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 key and AES-256-GCM. Accounts support TOTP with backup codes and passkeys, and SSH host keys are pinned on first use. Recordings capture terminal output and event markers rather than raw keystrokes; passwords entered at hidden prompts are not echoed. Termalin says data minimisation and account and data deletion on request have shipped, while independent penetration testing is planned and SOC 2 remains on the roadmap. That distinction matters for teams with formal assurance requirements.

Key features

Terminal, file and database work

Sessions use xterm-256color and include tabs, snippets and scrollback restoration. SFTP, FTP and S3 browsers, a built-in editor and dual-pane transfers bring common file tasks into the same client. The database client supports 13 engines, including PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, SQLite, MongoDB, Redis, ClickHouse, Elasticsearch, Cassandra/ScyllaDB, Neo4j, InfluxDB, RabbitMQ, SQL Server and Cloudflare D1. That range is useful for teams managing mixed stacks; it is less decisive if you only need SSH.

Agent access

The built-in MCP server can open sessions, run commands, read or write files over SFTP, and enter live sessions while the user watches. Termalin documents connections for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex and other MCP-capable agents, locally or through hosted MCP. This makes agent-assisted operations a real part of the product rather than an external add-on, but users who do not want agents in their workflow should not treat it as a reason to choose the client.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed Free forever. It includes SSH and SFTP, a local encrypted vault, session recording and replay, a watch grid, the 13-engine database client and MCP agent access. It is a substantial way to use the core workspace, but it does not include the cloud vault and syncing added by Pro.

Pro costs 8.00 USD per month, billed yearly. It adds an encrypted cloud vault, device and snippet sync, command automation, cloud recordings and agent live-session access. It fits individual users who want synchronized work across devices or those Pro capabilities; the annual billing term is important when comparing it with monthly-priced alternatives.

Team costs 15.00 USD per month, billed yearly. It includes everything in Pro, plus a shared team vault, session sharing, collaboration, roles and permissions, and consolidated billing. Teams that need shared access controls have a clear reason to move up; solo users gain less from those additions.

Enterprise uses custom pricing and adds multiple vaults, granular access, agent governance, SLA and priority support, plus a dedicated manager, migration and onboarding. A beta founders offer costs 149.00 USD per month, limited to the beta, for lifetime Pro access and all future Pro features. A 14-day trial is available. No seat or quota caps are stated for these plans.

Platforms

Termalin supports Windows, macOS and Linux, as well as web and iOS access. The Windows .exe is not code-signed yet and may trigger a SmartScreen unknown-publisher warning; the Microsoft Store build is signed. The browser cabinet offers an install-free option on laptops, phones and tablets.

Who it's for

Termalin is a strong fit for developers and operations teams that combine remote shell work with transfers, database administration or agent-assisted tasks. Its shared vault, collaboration and permissions make Team more relevant when that work spans colleagues. It is a weaker fit for someone seeking only a lightweight terminal, or for an organization that requires completed third-party security validation or SOC 2.

Pros and cons

Pro: SSH, three file-browsing protocols and a 13-engine database client sit in one workspace, reducing tool switching for varied infrastructure work.
Pro: MCP agents can operate on sessions and files, and can join live sessions under user observation.
Pro: Device-side vault encryption, host-key pinning and recordings that omit raw keystrokes offer concrete safeguards for sensitive work.
Con: The Windows .exe may draw a SmartScreen warning until it is signed; the signed Store build avoids that particular friction.
Con: Independent penetration testing is still planned and SOC 2 is on the roadmap, which may rule it out for teams requiring those assurances now.
Con: Pro and Team prices are billed yearly, so the stated monthly rates are not monthly billing terms.

Alternatives

If Termalin's integrated file, database and agent workflow is more than you need, these terminal emulators offer narrower choices. Contour is a free option for Linux, macOS and Windows when a standalone terminal is sufficient. Choose Warp if you want a freemium terminal with core terminal features and Warp Agent CLI access; its Free plan is 0.00 USD per month, billed monthly.

gitsome is a free alternative for Linux, macOS, Windows and self-hosted use. Tabby is a forever-FOSS option for Linux, macOS and Windows. WezTerm is another Linux, macOS and Windows choice, with MIT-licensed software at 0.00 USD per free. Ghostty is free and open source for Linux and macOS, without commercial backing or a dedicated support team. Hyper is free for Linux, macOS and Windows. iTerm2 is free software for macOS users.

Verdict

Choose Termalin if your team wants SSH, file handling, database access and MCP agent operations in one client, with a free tier that already includes the database client and agent. Its main reason to look elsewhere is assurance: teams that require independent penetration testing or SOC 2 now should wait, while Windows users should account for the unsigned installer warning or use the signed Store build.
