Overview

TripBuddy gives a group a common itinerary to work from: collaborators can swap stops, move days and comment, while others can view the plan without creating an account. The service checks stops, addresses, opening hours and travel times against map data, which makes the generated schedule more grounded than a simple list of suggestions. Those checks are a useful starting point, not a substitute for deciding whether the pace and stops fit the travelers.

When weather, closures or a delayed train disrupt the plan, users can ask Buddy to rebuild the day. That makes TripBuddy a better fit for flexible trips than for travelers who need a fixed, offline reference. Planning, place details, photos and the read-aloud guide all require a connection, so unreliable service can limit its usefulness on the road.

Key features

Shared itinerary planning

A one-sentence prompt lowers the effort of getting a first itinerary together. Map-data checks add practical context, while shared editing and comments keep group changes in one plan. Map view and calendar export help travelers inspect the itinerary and carry it into their schedules.

On-trip support

Lock-screen updates, Live Activities and widgets keep trip information accessible, and spoken daily summaries offer another way to review the day. Phrasebook and currency tools broaden the in-trip toolkit. The connection requirement for the read-aloud guide, place details and photos is a meaningful limitation for journeys through areas with patchy coverage.

Services and safeguards

TripBuddy uses OpenRouter and Anthropic Claude for AI, Google for sign-in and place data, Unsplash for photography, OpenStreetMap for web maps, and Apple for iOS maps and speech recognition. Its privacy policy names Booking.com and GetYourGuide as linked booking partners and says it earns no commission on them today.

Traffic uses HTTPS and Cloudflare, trip data is stored in encrypted PostgreSQL in Frankfurt, and row-level security restricts database access to trips. Those are relevant safeguards, but TripBuddy has no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification, external penetration test, SLA, self-hosting, customer-managed keys or automated database backups on its current plan. Support is by email, with responses promised within two business days. Teams with formal assurance, recovery or deployment requirements should look elsewhere.

Pricing

Free: 0.00 USD per free — every trip, every day and any crew size. The free plan suits individuals and groups who want to plan without per-trip or group-size restrictions. There is no paid tier to step up to in the stated offer, so users who need stronger enterprise controls or offline access should not assume a higher plan will address those needs.

Platforms

TripBuddy runs on Android, iOS and the web, with a mobile app, map view, booking links, calendar export and collaborative planning. The cross-platform mix works for groups using different devices; its connection-dependent planning and reference tools remain the main constraint regardless of platform.

Who it's for

TripBuddy is a strong fit for couples, friend groups and families who want to build and adjust a shared itinerary, as well as solo travelers who value its planning and on-trip tools. It is less suitable for teams that require self-hosting, customer-managed encryption keys, formal security certification, an SLA or automated database backups. Travelers who regularly need itinerary details offline should also choose a tool that supports offline access.

Pros and cons

Pros: Unlimited trips and any crew size at no charge make it practical for recurring group planning without a trip quota.
Pros: Shared editing, comments and account-free viewing make it easier to coordinate with a group without requiring everyone to sign up.
Pros: Stop, address, hours and travel-time checks against map data give the generated itinerary useful practical grounding.
Cons: Planning, place details, photos and the read-aloud guide need a connection, which reduces reliability in low-connectivity destinations.
Cons: No SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification, external penetration test, SLA, self-hosting, customer-managed keys or automated backups makes it a poor match for organizations with strict operational controls.
Cons: Email support with a promised response within two business days may not meet teams that need rapid assistance during a trip.

Alternatives

For a self-hosted option, TREK offers a free plan for personal and internal company use under AGPL-3.0 and supports Android, iOS, Linux, web and self-hosting; choose it when deployment control or a Linux client matters more than TripBuddy’s specific group itinerary tools.

Stippl is worth considering for travelers who want its free plan’s unlimited trips, destinations, activities, co-planners, expenses and journal entries, along with AI generation, PDF export and calendar sync.

Pilot may suit travelers who prioritize reservation and file import alongside route and map tools and real-time collaboration; its listed free plan is billed annually.

Navly is an iOS and macOS alternative with a free AI planning assistant, map and location context, and itinerary building; its 24-hour Day Pass costs 2.99 USD once and does not renew automatically.

NxVoy Trips is another option, with a free plan capped at 5 chats and 50 messages per session.

Waiz offers unlimited trips and itineraries on its free plan, while its Pro plan adds an AI trip wizard and trip chat, email booking auto-import and live weather on every day.

Onytrip is a free alternative with AI-generated itineraries, collaborative planning, PDF and calendar export, interactive maps and experience booking.

Travelifly may be a fit for iOS travelers whose trips are single-city and who can work within its free allowance of two full trips, with checklist, transit, bilingual names and hotel picks.

Verdict

Choose TripBuddy if your priority is a shared, adaptable trip itinerary for a group without trip or crew-size charges. Its map-grounded planning and mid-trip replanning are compelling for travelers who can stay connected. Look elsewhere if offline access, enterprise security controls, managed deployment or faster support are essential.
