About

DuckDuckGo Email Protection is a free forwarding service that removes trackers from incoming messages before sending them to your existing email inbox. Choose a personal @duck.com address, or create separate private Duck Addresses that can be turned off individually if they begin receiving unwanted mail. DuckDuckGo browsers and extensions can identify email fields and fill them with either address type. Forwarded messages can arrive in services such as Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, or Proton; Email Protection does not include a separate inbox. DuckDuckGo says it forwards messages without retaining the emails or their headers on its systems. Replies use the Duck Address, but the service cannot guarantee that reply text will not expose the forwarding address or other identifiers. It is available on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, web, and as a browser extension. Support is listed at [email protected].

Who it is for

It suits people who want tracker removal and address aliases while continuing to use an existing inbox. It is available across mobile, desktop, web, and browser-extension platforms.

What is good

  • Free plan includes email forwarding and tracker removal.
  • Private Duck Addresses can be deactivated individually.
  • Autofill works through DuckDuckGo browsers and extensions.
  • Forwarded email works with existing inbox providers.

What to know first

  • It does not provide a separate inbox.
  • Reply text may reveal forwarding addresses or other identifiers.

Verdict

DuckDuckGo Email Protection adds tracker filtering and address aliases to an existing email setup without a separate inbox. Consider its stated limitation on what reply text may disclose when using Duck Addresses.
